Dayum! That was an ass-load of work! You amaze me with what you can and will do. I can understand hair weave getting in the line, but gravel? How? The hole was on the bottom. So glad to see you did not dig outside by hand. Seems like you didn't charge enough for labor with all of that digging and hassle from the tenants. But that's just me.
Yes a lot of work. The hair is actually roots that grow into the joints of the clay tiles. The gravel got in from the pipe that caved in that the previous plumber repaired. The original hole was on the drop just below the toilet sweep into stack. They actually took copper pipe below the slab. The reason I dug up the pipe was because the pipe was all slopped back towards the house because the pipe had settled / dropped. I probably didn’t charge enough, but I try to be reasonable with my repairs I do not have debt and very little overhead for my handyman biz.
Hey man, I got a question for you. Do you make good money doing projects for other landlords? I’m sure you made a lot on this job. Im 28 and started a handyman business about 2 months ago that is doing very well. It really made me happy that it took off like it did. I mostly do small repairs or install ceiling fans faucets, flooring etc. I RU-vid a lot to learn how to make a repair and just do it. I’m thinking of trying to get a job doing plumbing or new construction plumbing. My thought is to go get licensed in plumbing because I feel like it's probably easier to scale a business (or hire employees) that can do plumbing which is specialized than hiring someone to do handyman work that requires a wide range of knowledge(unless they're just doing small stuff, in which case I worry they would just start their own business). It would probably take me 2 years minimum to get licensed in NC and in the meantime feel like I'm missing out on continuing to build my handyman business. Thoughts?
First Congratulations on taking a big step in trying something new! Happy to hear your handyman biz is doing good. Yes I make good money from my handyman work I do. Think the profit on this job was $1300 (Numbers on this video are at the end). I use to work for a property management company that also did handyman work(I was 19). Now, I do about 90% maybe 95% of all my own work on the rentals I own. Plus I work for 2 other landlords. If you are interested in plumbing most areas do not require a license to do drain cleaning. It's a good first step in getting into plumbing. This would also lead to other things like pee traps leaking. Not sure if you are interested in working for landlords? Would you care if I make a video about this question? Make sure to get some kind of insurance to protect you if something happens.
@@handylandlord Thanks for the response! In NC wouldn't need a license to do drain cleaning, however it wouldn't work towards the 2 years needed of working under an employer. Of course man! It would be awesome if you made a video on this! thank you!
