We install the Kiravans RIB Spinney seats in my VW T6... BUT! not everything goes to plan!!! 🤔

Another great vid.best VW youtuber on here.had similar problem with driving position as needed to fit shims so swivel base cleared the leisure battery terminals and is higher than passenger in lowest setting but luckily I have long legs so pros out weight the cons just need do something with the handbrake cover as now will not fit from being lowered.keep them vids coming.I am surprised you not gone for a pop top roof yet for camping I would love one but love my manufacturer sunroof to much and as its a swb would probably have to loose it.

Thank again buddy! 🙌 😊. Yes just not quite enough to swing the leisure battery but only a fraction. No I have not gone for the pop top as we are a family of 5 so I just felt sleeping all 5 in the van would be out, so went the route of driveaway awning for sleeping and partying in the back for food, drinks and entertainment etc... works well for us at the moment. 😎

Great vid as usual! My brother had a Kiravans swivel and it drives everyone mad who sits in it as it rocks excessively from new and it squeaks and no matter what you seem to do we can’t make it quiet, unfortunately many on the forums find this to be true , I’ve the same bus as you and went for the rusty lee swivel , it’s got a bigger supported swivel and is rock solid ,plus no squeaks and the lever is at the front so no need to cut the side of the seat trim, hope it works out for you though , I’m not trying to make you sad it’s just you may get ur brass back if it annoys you

Thanks Nathan, I appreciate the feedback. I may well swop over to the rusty’s if I experience any of those issues. The rib products are almost always out of stock 🤷‍♂️. Thanks again bud🙌

Great honest video Steve. I also had problems with these swivels my passenger seat wasn’t fitted with height adjustment and these swivels simply don’t work for my application, ended up with rusty lee ones.

Yes I can see how that would be a problem!! The trim on side of the seat would hit. Glad you solved it with rusty’s🤟

🙏Thanks Alan, the second screen is a separate system I installed controlled by an overhead switch to show me the front splitter and the rear towbar for parking next to curbs and reversing up to my trailer. I was going to fit a set of the rusty lee ones heard they are the best.. But iv always been put off by the hight it would take the drivers seat due to the handbrake and as you mention in your video I couldn’t put up with 1 seat higher than the other my OCD would go mental 😂 ..very pleased that is not the case for you tho and I’m now thinking to get one for my passenger seat , great video

I’m exactly the same and it would send me bananas so I’m glad it’s worked out like this . Was way to high to drive it with the drivers seat. I think I could see the front splitter 🤣

Steve. Before you took the drivers seat out can I check that it clears the handbrake fully and there is no need to do the handbrake mod. Cheers

Hey buddy, sorry for the late reply! So short answer is yes. However. The handbrake needed to be realised to do this and the shim that lifts the seat base allows for this but I have to say I found it to high for a comfortable driving position👍

Great video Steve. I fitted Rusty Lee’s not so long ago. For the drivers side I did notice I needed to get used to a slightly higher than preferred position (no shims though, I still need to lower the handbrake). I think it took a good week for us to get used to it but I honestly don’t notice it now. My wife is 5’5”and it’s fine for her. A bit like when we moved from a car to a van, it just took time to adjust. So my recommendation would be give it a couple of weeks without the additional shims. Then, if you do get used to it, lower the handbrake to make it all work. If not, pull it out.

🙌thanks Peter, Yes great advice! Glad you got used to yours! I think if we get a good year in next year 🤞 and can run out on some camping weekends, we will see if not having the drivers seat swivel is a drawback... if it is then I will go down the route of lowering the handbrake as you say 👌

Hi I'm considering buying these but have a question. I am wondering is it possible to lock secure the seat facing backwards as this would be a deterrent to potential thieves as they couldn't drive it. Hope you can advise

Hi, The RIB base does not lock rear facing from the factory. it only locks when you strike the forward home position but that's not to say it wouldn't be possible to modify it to be able to rear lock. hope this helps

Thanks Glenn. Well I have plans for the full interior to be re-trimmed in a nice leather next year but TBF the drivers swivel was less important to us for the camping so at least the passenger works 👍

Hey Steve, I've watched quite a few of your videos lately, as we have very similar vans, and similar wants for the vans. You're my van brother from UK 😂 I was thinking about swivel seats myself, however I didn't rush into it exactly because I feared the seat would lift to an uncomfortable position. Tell me, please, how tall are you?

Hey van brother 🤙. Thanks for supporting the vids👍. Yes I am 5’ 10 but don’t forget it’s a bit of legs n body spit too 😂. It’s just not good on the drivers the only way is to do a handbrake mod which is available as a kit from most conversion retailers then you can remove the raising shims but you do have to settle for a fabric handbrake gator if you lower it.

Couple of questions, does the passenger seat rock slightly? looked on your video like it moved around a bit when you sat down. Also not keen on the dremmel idea of cutting the seats, can this be avoided?

When you have the seat in the forward driving position, no movement and locks tight like factory but rotated there is a slight rock as you lean back, mainly due to the fact the the runners are nearly fully extended when its rotated so the transfer of weight makes it rock slightly. with regards to the dremil, on the RIB seat base you do have to unfortunately, it will hit the release tab other wise. however it is not very noticeable that its been done I have to say and I normally hate that kind of thing!

Did you have an airbag warning light on the dashboard after disconnecting the seat airbag??

No, disconnected & reconnected before cycling the ignition and had no issue with a warning light with the seat plugs 👍

Hi Steve, have you had any issues with the passenger side ? Does it rattle or move ? What unit did you upgrade to for the drivers side?

Hi, I must admit I am fussy with this sort of thing and yes very slight play in the seat frame so the seat does tend to slightly wobble with nobody sat in it when on the move. some wouldn't even notice but i guess its to be expected if its got to swivel... I didn't do anything on the drivers one in the end as I didn't want to lower the handbrake so we just have swivel fitted on passenger side

Rusty Lee base and lower your handbrake? Maybe doesn’t make your drivers seat as high as the Kiravans one at its lowest point.

Yes 🙌. Couple of people have suggested the route👍. As soon as we can get some weekend camping in we are going to see how it works with just the 1 swivel first and then I’ll probably look at this option if we still think the drivers need to turn👍. Thanks for the tip👌
