Just what I was looking for amazing video for the Renusol ConSole + solar PV mount

Just take note that the ballast we used (sand) isn’t recommended and we’ll be swapping it out for larger bricks or blocks at some point. There’s a concern that the sand will wash away of the bag splits.

Nice video. These would be ideal for small garage roof systems, though most companies seem to charge quite a lot to post them. I guess they are quite big.

Yes, but that’s true of most PV systems. You usually get a better price buying the whole system including the tubs through a distributor.

Hi, amazing video, very detailed and looks like a simple installation. Did you have any problems with water going inside system and not draining properly? i could only see 2x small holes in the bottom corners, but nothing else? overtime has this caused problems?
@MorzakEV
@MorzakEV 29 дней назад
No, they've been up there a few years now, and we've never had an issue. The holes are not actually that small, they're about 20-25mm and there is one front and back for each trough in the bucket, so quite a few holes.

Great stuff. Have you seen a similar console system that allows for mounting the panels in portrait mode? That would work well around here.
@MorzakEV

I haven’t seen that. Do you have a link?

Instructive video, do you know what weight of ballast is in each console? and what is the weight of the console + ballast + solar panel? Looks like an ideal solution for my flat roof but worried about the overall extra load on the roof
@MorzakEV
@MorzakEV 2 года назад
So, Renusol actually have their own recommendations, and we have worked away from those for various reasons. Firstly, they actually recommend using stone larger than 20mm. You're probably best contact Renusol directly to get an idea of what weight they recommend as i can't remember off the top of my head.

Thanks for the video! Did you use any protective pads or a matt before placing in the desired location on the roof?
@MorzakEV
@MorzakEV 11 месяцев назад
No. This membrane on our roof is super thick and tough - it can even be used to make a green roof or balcony, so we were not worried. If you are concerned about the roof surface, I’d suggest just using something like horse stall mats which are relatively cheap and heavy duty.

Know this video is old but what (physical) size panel works with the console+? Can you recall what panels you fitted? Thank you.
@MorzakEV
@MorzakEV 2 месяца назад
We fitted the JA solar 325W Monos. There's a good guide here for what will fit: www.pluginsolar.co.uk/?product=renusol-console-5200-tubs-for-ground-or-flat-roof-mount Just make sure your panels have mounting holes in them already.

Thanks for making this video. Can you share a link to where to purchase this system please. I'm looking to install some panels on my flat roof and this system seems appropriate, thanks in advanced

At the moment, it’s very difficult to get hold of either way. This is not a high street product so you can just Google it and see what comes up, or speak directly to electrical retailers specialising in solar such as Segen, Midsummer, Edmundson Greentech, or someone like that. You’re probably looking at next year soonest now before they’re available though.
@Treewithoutabird

OK looks enough to mount the panel, how do you connect the panels when fixed like you have?
@MorzakEV
@MorzakEV 2 года назад
If you're talking about the electrical connections - the panels have leads with plugs on them, and they're long enough to connect from one panel to the next. There are slots in the Renusol console plus system to allow the cables to pass through. I hope to re-do this video in a few months to correct a couple of things - the blast should be rocks or pebbles greater than 20mm and not sand to prevent it being washed away if the bags break, so i will include this in the next video also. Thanks for the useful comment!

You used 2 bags of ballast, about 50kg? Have you had any issues with movement?
@MorzakEV
@MorzakEV 2 месяца назад
None whatsoever, and we've had a lot of storms. We used 3 bags around the edges though. Just bear in mind, your position and building height and other factors may affect the wind loadings, and your building structure must be able to accommodate the weight.

im about to use the same system on my flat roof. How has it held up so far? what about wind, any movement yet?
@MorzakEV
@MorzakEV 2 года назад
We’ve had a number of really bad storms the past 12 months, and after inspecting them, nothing has budged an inch.

Flat roof angles are ridiculous for Winter especially here in UK. I used mending plates to increase my angle and get 1kwh compared to 0.500kwh in mid-Autumn. NO idea why on earth flat roof angles are great for Summer when you don't use that much generated energy.
@MorzakEV
@MorzakEV Год назад
I think there are a couple of things that play here. Firstly, this product is not just produced for the UK, but all over the world so I have come up with one product that maintains an optimum angle for most places where the product is sold. Secondly, most countries have some sort of planning restrictions, by ensuring the 15° angle, it means you can put them on any flat roof and it will still be within your permitted development rights. By increasing the angle, the panels would be higher, and outside of the envelope of permitted development rights, meaning you would need planning permission for every single install.

@@MorzakEV Looking at the video you installed 22 pods/panels. That adds an extra 1100Kg load on the roof structure. Did you get a structural engineer to perform a load analysis to ensure you did not overload the roof?
@MorzakEV
@MorzakEV 28 дней назад
@@stephennichols2533 great question. Our house is actually a new build, so the roof was designed with this solar panel installation in mind. It is actually designed for a larger solar panel installation, which we are upgrading to this year so to answer the question, yes, the Structural Engineer, specified the beams in the roof for this load. we are fortunate, as this is actually a conversion, and the building prior to us converting it was a storage depot. This meant the beams were actually designed to have cranes attached, so they were way oversized.
