It has taken us a few months to get around to making the video about installing the Starlink Satellite Internet connection on our homestead at Savvy Organics Farm. Our old line of sight wireless system has been a struggle to upload videos. We are hoping that the new Starlink Satellite Internet connection will be much faster. Internet connections can be a real struggle for rural homes, off grid property and homesteads.

Good job good info. I'm lucky my county started years ago so we are like 99 percent fiber now. But this is a very good option to have. Thanks for the video.

good example - I was trying to see if unit was omni-direction so I can mount same situation as you - thx!

Yes! Once you use the app to show that the area is free from obstructions, the antennae will adjust itself automatically.

@@SavvyOrganicsFarm my neck is seized from trying to look @ that app already lol - my concern was our house(south of where I plan to install & tall as heck...but I believe app results are ok - we have a kennel & was thinking of screwing mount over the runs of kennel..there's nothing there to worry about if a leak developed

I'm curious if connectivity has improved, especially since there are a lot more satellites up there now vs 6 months ago.
@SavvyOrganicsFarm
@SavvyOrganicsFarm Год назад
Honestly have not noticed. We have not had any issues with connectivity or speed so far. We remain happy with the system. We also love that it is portable. So if we ever wanted to take it with us or if we were to ever move, the equipment can travel with us.

I can understand that. But, it is 3/4" decking and wood screws so I think we are safe.

Have you had any issues with the installation by just screwing on the mount to the shingles? I know they have a lot of different mounting options. Any movement with wind or weather?
@SavvyOrganicsFarm

Thanks for your questions Cassie. I sealed the screws with roofing silicon so, no, no leaks. So far the wind and weather have not been a problem at all. Working very well for us.

you folks must get no snow in the winter. Our panels need to be straight up and down and still on wintery weeks the snow sticks and needs to be brushed off.

Hou just screwed holes through your step flashing securing the cable. There is where you created leaks. Your overkill with caulk on the brackets didn't really do anything. Raise your cable up a couple inches up there under the eves.

Whenever I get mine I am not attaching it to the roof for one reason whenever you get your roof reshingled you have to reinstall it I am just attaching mine to the fascia that way when my roof gets reshingled I do not have to worry about it

That’s a silly reason, they would put it back when you get a new roof and a roof should last you 15 to 30 years so that shouldn’t be a problem anyways

i would recommend covering up those tips if you are shoving them through holes and what not, very easy to get them dirty / dusty, but nothing some contact cleaner wont fix. And I don't think you are getting 200+ Mbit upload speed, on the advanced speed test, router to internet is the speed you are getting, device to router is basically just your wifi speed from where you are located from the router, in case that is lower then you know why your speed is slow. I think the absolute cap for upload speed is 50 Mbit but most are 20-30
@joan-lisa-smith
@joan-lisa-smith Год назад
Good idea, about to set mine up and will put a little baggie over it to push it thru, thanks
@SaltySeed
@SaltySeed Год назад
I dont think there is a cap for upload or download. If i ping test on my pc i get download 109mbps, upload 56mbps....my pc is hooked up thru wifi only and the router is 2 rooms away. If i run the advanced speed tests on my phone, device to wifi router is 51mbps and router to internet is 68mbps, thats also sitting at my pc 2 rooms away. I will also note the sky is currently over cast and cloudy as well. I have had starlink for almost 1.5.yrs now and have pinged and speed test results as high as 240+mpbs download and 100+ mbps upload. So unless both the starlink software and 3rd party softwares are lying about speeds i dont believe there is a upload 50mbps limit. I will also note i live in a VERY sparsely populated area(the entire county has just over 10k people) the closest "town"(technically a village) is 12miles away and only has population of 291. Latency does vary a lot as low as 11 and as high as 70 however we have between 11 and 13 devices connected at all times so the system still performs very well. We run 3 gaming pcs, 2 gaming laptops, 2 tablets, up to 3 tvs and 4 phones all at once plus various alexa/blink devices with everything 100% wifi. My dish also is just sitting on my front lawn and has been since the day i got it. I have zero complaints about starlink speeds or service and rarely have any issues with speed or outtages. i would recommend it to anyone stuck on another other satellite internet provider, we had a different provider for the first 5yrs we lived in this house, we had the largest data package they offered which capped at 90gb a month and we paid $270/month for it.

This is a perfect example of how NOT to do a Starlink installation. Dish it not plumb cable laying on shingles .
@SavvyOrganicsFarm
@SavvyOrganicsFarm Год назад
The disk is self-adjusting and rotates automatically to locate the satellite. It does not have to be plumb. The cable is not a problem and has not been since the installation. It has not moved.
@WaltWW
@WaltWW 10 месяцев назад
The satellite rotates on only 4 axis. The center pole should be plumb(vertically). The way you mounted it does not allow for this. It works, but it is not optimal. Starlink makes mounts specifically for mounting on a shingle roof. Running the cable inside some conduit will protect it from abrasion over time as wind pushes it along the shingles. All that being said, if it’s working for you, it’s working for you. (aka if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.)

Do not buy Starlink. My Service was down for three months. The problem was with their settings in house, and they could not correct it. They also continued to bill me for the months they could not provide service. They are even continuing to bill me, even thought I sent my equipment back to them weeks ago. --- Fair Warning: If your Starlink service goes down, you may be in for;one helluva ride. All in all, I paid Starlink over $1400 dollars and I received service for only about 4 months.
