Here are the best crash guards I could find for the KLR 650. T-Rex has made a set that not only provide a ton of protection but allow the use of the stock crash protection as well.

Really thank you for this installation video! Not only does it help me evaluate which crash bar to get, but also you’ve given us invaluable tips on the installation.

Thanks for taking the time to share this in our group today, much appreciated. I have the same bike and have not installed any because I wanted a set that I don't have to remove the factory stuff on the bike. This fits the bill. I will do what I can to se if I can get a set on my bike this year. Thanks again for sharing on the Gen 3 Tribe FB group. that is how I found you channel. Dale

Great video. I just bought a 23 Adventure and will get the T. rex bars because the Tusk ones make you have to remove the fog light bar which I don’t want to do. These bars are $114 more but oh well

Congrats on a superb instructional video! I'm a pretty darn good mechanic but this helped me a lot on the install. The hardest part I had was getting the upper fairing bolts back in at first. I watched your video a little at a time as I was installing so the left side bolt drove me nuts. Got it started finally after using a flashlight to see the misalignment and then saw you mention the issue later on the right side. My solution was to pull up on the fairing plastic as I threaded the bolt in. As far as the 2 lower bolts I fully tightened the top bolt and then had to take a long drill bit to slightly enlargen the lower bolt hole to get it through without damaging the threads. The bolts were slightly too short to fit the second steel washer on my install. Anyway, great video. This is what I aspire to do on my channel but am too lazy to do it.

Note previous experience with vstrom and similar engine guard did shift the frame. However crash for mid section like this isnt necissarily provide benefit as handlebars and their ends extend further. So when the bike goes gown it damages the handlebars and potentially not the frame like this. Some mods i have seen aand accessories are worthless and people think there is benefits with no downsides. After all the dropping i did and bikes destroyed no longer buy this stuff and ride stock saves money and since doing that prevented some damage these accessories would have caused and protecting myself in the process.. good video though.

The trex stuff looks tough on the bike! I plan on buying all their stuff for my klr650. I like the design of their skid plate as it protects the lower shock link too. Nice stuff. Good video. Now i know how easy the install is. I am just gather all my stuff so when this snow goes away I will be ready to install everything at once. I also bought the Vstream medium windshield and plan on getting a zumo XT for it to. Did some long dirt roads last year with friends it was a blast. But I was always worried about dropping the bike. This crash protection looks like just the ticket!

If you watch the T-Rex install video carefully, I believe it says "if you have the stock or T-Rex lowers NOT to use the PIA spacers" at the front frame bolts. (In text on the screen)

I just watched it and it did have that typed on the screen as he was installing. I t still seemed like the gap needed to have the spacers in my opinion as I installed it 🤷🏻‍♂️

As I remove the 12mm bolt to release the stock light bar, I believe the bolt fractured. The new 13 mm bolt nor the original 12mm will tighten. There was no obvious lock tight on the stock bolt so I don’t know where to go from here.also I officer two loose rubber lines-this is fuel and coolant overflow? Where do these go once I’m ready to reinstall my skid plate?

You ride in the cold too! Hey, do you ever condensation in your oil site glass after a ride? I do, but I believe it's bc some of my rides are short ones and moisture doesn't have time to burn off. If you ride in the cold maybe the Thermo-Bob would be a good mod. Good luck Man.
@ScoutsOut

Haha yea man, now that I got some good cold weather gear and heated jacket it's nice. No I've never noticed the condensation on the glass but I'll check next time I ride, once my warranty is up I will probly look more into the doohickey and thermal bob

I had problems with the right fairing bolt also. But I absolutely cannot get the right rear bracket to mount due to the existing factory hardware mounted to the frame. I have looked and looked but there doesn't seem to be any way to mount the right rear section. How in the heck did you get around the equipment that is mounted and screwed to the frame near the right rear side? Any tips? Mine seems to look just a bit different. It's about the 7 minute mark of video that I am referring. MIne has ABS brakes and it is possible the object that is bolted to the frame may have something to do with that. Does yours have ABS brakes?
@ScoutsOut

That's weird, mine doesn't have abs. I'd be interested to see what you are talking about. Do you have instagram? If you send me a pic I could try and help you. @scouts_out_yt

Hi Ben, My 2023 KLR Adventure has ABS, and I know exactly what you're talking about. This device has some tubes going through it (I wish I could paste the pictures here). I was able to place the internal part of the tube clamp right above where this device is screwed to the frame, but before I needed to partially remove the plastic fairing in your left (the back of the bike). Now, I am facing another issue, because there is a weld hindering to place the external part of the tube clamp. I believe the solution they gave to the same problem in the left bar should work here. I just sent an e-mail to them asking about it. BTW, Did you get your bars installed? If so, how you solved these issues? Thanks.

Hi, Thank you for the great tutorial, very much appreciated (I am using it to install my bars). I liked that you specified the socket sizes for each bolt (12mm, 8mm, etc). Regarding those spacers you put on those hardest bolts to install, it seems T-Rex recommend them only if you DON'T have the T-Rex or OEM bottom engine guards, which you have, so you were supposed to not install them, as you can see here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--0Icuveyh2o.html&ab_channel=T-RexRacingInc Besides that, great job! Definitely a better install tutorial than the one T-Rex put in place. Thanks,
