One thing I would recommend you do, is pull the drain plug from the back of the unit if it's going to be installed year round, I have had four of these units and all of them have rotted out pans and coils from the condenser fins sitting in a deep pool of water. The water can also freeze inside the unit in winter, locking up the fan.
Got the 18000 BTU version of this and now my 1000' shop is like a refrigerator , installed "through wall" because don't have any windows, works very well.
I was just wondering about the difference in putting it in the wall, as when we bought this old house, there was a hole for one in the garage wall, but not thinking we'd ever want to use the garage for anything, we had it "sided over" on the outside. The inside is still just like it was, with sufficient support for whatever size it is... didn't measure before I started looking at installation videos. And the windows aren't near a plug, sooo... Was it hard to retrofit for the wall? I'm guessing the 18000 one is really heavy.... too heavy for one older woman to manage, huh? LOL
@@freewaybaby Yes its heavy, you will need help putting in the wall even if wall was right size, i had to cut out out the wall a bit and reinforced with a 2x12 at the bottom for it to sit on, worked out well but took some work and a little carpentry skill.
I'll never know how I ended up at this RVR2's vlog several months ago, but every now and then I find his videos interesting. Who knew I would check out the life of a guy in the middle of nowhere (no offense) USA. Weird how the world works. Btw, love the late night bacon videos...might have been the first video I saw of yours as I was watching other eating videos.
I See it's been 7Years Since this Video is Posted, I'm guessing it was installed around the same time. Wondering if you still have this Unit? Does it still work? Any Issues along the way? I see you said it works great for your 21.5" x 15" Space, It Quickly heats and cools the space? Which is My Main Worry with its so Little BTU Ratings. I'm looking for similar unit to install in My 17" x 13" Space, Was Looking for 10,000+ BTU Rated Unit to Ensure Adequate Heating and Cooling, But those Cost $500+. Would be Nice if I can get something like this that won't break the bank, still get the job done and Lasts Long with No Issues/Long Service Life.
Funny you ask me this now as I just pulled this unit from my window yesterday (June 17) to make way for a new Mini-Split system that will be installed very soon.. This window unit is still working fine and worked out well for my needs over the years, but the HVAC contractor that installed my system in my main house next door a few years back came by to get an idea of a price for the mini-split install. Yeah this upgrade will cost much more than this window unit did, but as the Summer temperatures continue to increase here in the Carolinas, I felt that it was time to do this major upgrade.
I wonder what the monthly electrical consumption is for the heat. And a/c. You think the heat is cheaper for a small room than propane or kerosene? A sweet looking unit. Thanks
It should have came with 2 little support brackets that rest on the sill.... I bought this same unit - except I read the instructions. Lol The lever is for keeping out or letting in outside air .
Hi, I was wondering if you have a video on how you maintain your ac unit? Mine is a year old and even though I clean the filter twice a month, it has a musty smell. I’ve heard of people washing the coils but not sure if it is done on newer ac units like the one you and I have.
Sorry I do not have a video like that. I think you can wash the coils on newer ones but I've never done that on mine. I may need to research this as well.
I need one that you can set a temp and its kicks on heat and cold to stay at that temp by itself and that 115v plug also does anybody have a model number for me???😊
I am pleased with this air conditioner. It’s extremely quiet compared to the smaller unit we were using. Would buy again if we have no issues in the near future.
It really would make a great place for a single person or even a couple.. I still have some things to work on but I haven't ruled out renting it some time in the future.
I just bought my 3rd one of these (because mine have gone out about every 5 years or so), and for the first time, I noticed it said to unscrew the screws, take the unit out of the housing and remove styrfoam blocks. I was not able to pull the unit out of the housing after I unscrewed the screws. Were there any styrfoam blocks in the back of the main unit when you pulled it out of the housing?
I don't recall.. It's been 5 years now since I installed this unit. I know it takes some work to get the unit out of its housing and it makes it a lot easier to install the housing in the window with the unit out.
@@rvr2 .....Please tell me how to set my heater then, because I set it to "heat" and turned it all the way up to 86 degrees and I'm getting lukewarm output
could you please tell me the specs on size of window? I am trying to start a printing business is where temp control in my shop is very very important. my window is 24" w x 14" H would this fit? it seems like an awesome solutions to my problem
I bought the same unit and my heater won’t blow hot air, it’s the same with my dada’s unit too.. won’t blow hot air only ac works fine .. we didn’t have good units with these .. and it cost alot
Good looking unit! I noticed you left the Drain Plug in at the back of the unit, this mat cause mold in the unit later on due to the moisture staying in there.
They seemed to have pretty good reviews overall.. I used to be a fan of Fedders brand AC/heater combo units back in the 2000s but became junk when they were bought out several years ago.
Great video! There aren't many options for a 2x3 windows....I stumbled upon this video doing a vague search and low and behold you had the exact one I came across LOL
Cool! If something goes wrong, hopefully Lowes will honor the warranty as it seems them and Home Depot tend to pass that on to the manufacturer when it comes to their appliances
