Installing the Bosch RA1181 Router Table in a Delta 36-725 Table Saw - Plus Dust Collection

In this video I install the Bosch RA1181 router table into the wing of my Delta 36-725 table saw. Then I will show you how I made a magnetic dust collection box for underneath the newly installed router table. Another shop project checked off the to-do list!

I'm used to larger, corded routers ru-vid.comUgkxfQ5_mgwq6PcudJvAH25t-I4D-3cTPz4z so this was a different experience for me. Basically, this is an incredibly sweet machine, fits well in the hand, etc. It has slightly less power than I'm used to, but that's understandable. Maneuvering freehand takes some practice. These days, it's especially nice to be able to avoid power cords. This is above the level of a hobbyist but below a pro level.

Awesome build! I'm currently following your example, building exactly as described. I like that you've separated the video into two parts, for those who want to do the same dust collection as you, or try their own. It was a bit hard to flip back and forth, though, as I was building the dust collection box before initial install. While I would've preferred the video to be fully linear (Build dust box before installing into table), I can understand why you did it that way. Thanks a lot for the excellent idea!

Router table install went perfectly. Great plan for dust collection system. Followed your directions exactly using 1/2" PW. However 4 paired neodymium magnets (the ones you listed below) per side were not enough to create enough attraction to support my dust box. And that was before I attached the 4" dust hose which adds some more downward force. All magnets were making contact. Dimensions were same as yours, except it looks like the depth of mine, at 12.5 " is a bit shorter. With the dust collection "T", entire system weighed 10.5 lbs. It would not stay seated. There is a formula one can use to determine if the magnetic capacity of kind, size and # of magnets being used will create enough force attraction to hold a specific weight. I ended up with 7 pairs per side and it now works perfectly. Thanks

Great video. I'm curious though about the ra1181... I've never in my life found one to be flat. (Bosch Tools North America has a notoriously flawed cast aluminum system. From things as small as their PL2632 hand planer, to the Saw Shoes, to the 1181, they've all had warping,... traditionally in a corner to corner warp.) The older Bosch Router Table top, the RA1180 was a 10/10 in design and execution of tabletop quality. I'd pay $200 just for the old 1180 tabletop these days.

Great video! I have been looking at that table - I'll be getting it to put in my table saw. One of the things I'm seeing is that people complain about the screw system that holds the router table fence on. Not sure if they have changed that. Did you have any problems with that? Also - others complain about the top being warped, but, when you took it apart and placed it on the work bench, I could see yours is nice and flat. Another video I watched - when he took his apart and flipped it over onto his work bench - it was CLEARLY warped. However he did not mention or complain about it. Since I will not be using anything but the fence and top I'll be ordering the REFURB model and saving about 50 bucks or more. So - what do YOU think about the fence set up? Or - will you be switching it out and using your table saw fence ?

Brilliant, I have the same router and I nearly the same table saw, the 36-725t2. WIll be doing this for sure if you find it works well. The only concern I have is sag on the wing, but it really shouldnt.

Only flaw I see you have no way to access the router for lock and unlock. Maybe change the front panel to a half door

Just bought that saw and have that exact router table. What fence is that on the router table. Does the saw still roll around ok after this or does it tip some?

That's awesome! I have the same saw and router table and this is exactly what I am wanting to do. I'm glad it fits as well as it does. I'll be tackling this ASAP. I'll also be putting a Vega U-50 fence on it which of course complicates it a little but I'll just be attaching the backside of the router table to the extension wing and I dunno...maybe adding in a couple pieces of aluminum angle to ensure it's all rigid enough to keep everything stable and level. I'm wondering if legs under the router table would be a good idea.

Maybe a dumb question but since the router is on the end like this does the table tilt or wobble any while using the router? I know that particular table saw is pretty substantial but just wondering. TIA.

Thank you so much for sharing your process, it was very helpful! Did you measure your router table's flatness when you first bought it? That seems to be a primary complaint for this model. Or, were you able to correct any deficiencies when you were tweaking your bolts during attachment?

So I don't have the 725, but I have Delta's 5152t2, which is essentially the same saw only larger, and installing the wings and table was fairly easy. They have tons of adjustment points on it, so it was simple to dial in.

"At the risk of being lazy" I just bolted on a Rockler Dust Right Dust Bucket by substituting some 2x2 slotted right angle brackets for the Rockler brackets and pointing them inwardly instead of outwardly. No pesky woodworking required.

I loved the video. I ordered the parts to mount the Bosch dust collection box. Did you happen to build a box to enclose your table saw dust too? I'd like to limit the excess dust somehow along with the 4in hose I connected to its port. Any ideas?

Thanks for watching! I'd like to do something for the table saw also, but I haven't done anything yet. I think most people remove the legs and mount it to a rolling box base with dust collection on the bottom. That 3/4" inch looks more like 3/8". Plus I think the rail heights are different on my saw (left to right) so it would be different measurements on each side. Also I attached a piece of wood (3/4 x 6 x 24) to the router table with some drywall screws on the side that's closest to the saw blade. That automatically makes the router table flush with the saw table on that side then you just need to deal with leveling the outboard side.

HELLO AGAIN! I started cutting pieces to make the box after I made the pieces with the magnets embedded in them. But, what did you do to fill the voids caused by the underside of the router table when cutting/assembling the sides for the box? IF OT filled the voids would reduce the suction of the vacuum dramatically! IF you could - would you reply with what you did to close the voids?

The RA1181 is a budget item for people who can't afford anything better. I certainly wouldn't use it for something like this. After getting a table with a router lift (and selling my RA1181), I could never go back to the hassle of changing bits and bit height adjustment that you have to go through with the Bosch table.

I'm curious how you accomodate the position of the dust port on the saw? Can I just cut it and redirect the dust port? I'm building a folding outfeed table then adding the Bosch RA1181 router insert just as you have done here. I'm running into problems getting the dust collection set up to accomodate both the saw and the router. Thank you for your reponse

I did the same with my Bosch router table and Delta 36-725 table saw. For you guys that liked this set up you might consider one additional modification. I built a bridge over my table saw fence and bolted the router table fence to the bridge. It merely slides over the table saw fence and slides off again when converting back to the table saw. Much like any jig you would build over your table saw fence. I prefer a hard wood such as maple for jigs to insure stability for years to come. The dust collection port on the Bosch fence can be removed and turned upward to allow mounting the router fence to the bridge.

I have this same router table and I'm thinking about buying the Delta table saw for the soul purpose of doing this same setup. I've seen some people doing it with the Ridgid table saw, but I'm leaning towards Delta based on some reviews. Quick question for you... as I'm looking at the Delta table saw online, I've noticed that while it's really same model # as yours, the color is now black instead of silver/grey. Do you happen to know if dimensions on these new table saws are still the same? I fear if I commit to buy one then the router won't fit.

I have the 1617 router as well. I built my own base out of pine. Only limitation is plate hole is an oddball size therefore no router lifts will work with it. I replaced the power switch and outlets with a Rockler STOP switch and metal surge protector for the router and vacuum. The breaker would keep popping on the stock one while cutting mitre locks so I had to plug the router in directly and that's not safe.

THANKS DUDE!!!! I just bought a Delta 36-725T2 and wondered how I was going to use the empty space at the right side of the saw. This looked so good I am going to follow along! Every thing seems to be simple enough for me to not screw it up too bad! 🙂 AND, this setup will allow me to get rid of my old metal router table that joins the router in making a god-awful noise. Thanks also for posting the links! I'll be making the under-table box also but will need to modify it for a 2.5" hose and I think I already have the mounting piece for that. Brilliant job to also slant the interior for better clean out too!

Drill some bigger holes at the beginning of the fence slots, then you can easily remove this router table fence without backing out the screws completely. Also my bosch router table is not dead flat, insert plate is not flat, insert rings sit too low. I hope yours is good.

Question: Do you leave the majority of the router power cord in the dust collection box, or loop most of it outside the box? Any design changes you would make if you did this again? I want to do this, but I was thinking of mounting the dust collection port on the bottom so it would naturally fall into the port.

Great video! The magnets you linked in the description seem quite a bit bigger than what it looks like you have in the video. Can you confirm the size you are using? If they are smaller, how have they held up with keeping the box on?

One comment on this install is that I would mount the rout table 180 degree so you could use the table saw top as a extension so if you got to say rout the outside of a cabinet door you can do it easier. Thanthe way you have it you only have bout 12" from fence to outside of rout table. My 2 cent worth anyways. Cheers :)

I have a delta saw just like yours. Was wondering if you had made any zero Clarence inserts for your saw. If so any info on how you did it would be appreciated. I can't find any aftermarket ones to purchase and as it is so thin I haven't found a good material to make one.

Nice work. Just got my Bosch router table with the intention of mounting it to my 36-725. Glad I came across this instruction video. It sure will help. One thing I did to my router table was to drill out holes in the slots that are used to tightened down the fence. I drilled and filed a hole in the back side of each slot. This hole is just large enough to get the head of the fence hold down screw through. This allows me to remove the fence without having to go under the table each time I want to get he fence out of the way. Not sure how often that will be but will make it easier if need be. With your dust collection set up it does look like this would not be too much of an issue though. One other thing I did is when I build my saw I put the foot pedal for the wheel on the other side. This was a couple years ago. Glad I did that so after the router table install I'll still have easy access to the pedal.

Curious how it’s doing a year after.. I’m a little concerned with boxing in the router itself. Does it not get covered in dust and overheat or prematurely wear the router?

This is a great video! Huge help on my install. One thing to hat helped level off the router table was to remove the throat plate of the table saw so I could get a clamp on there. Then I clamped a 4 foot level to the table saw and used a clamp on the other end to clamp the router table to the level. Really saved some time

I have the same table saw, router and router table. I also mounted that table to my saw. Perfect fit. I use a dust port from the fence and the attachment that comes with that router base. I hook my dust collection there and I don't have any problems with dust. I don't see the point building that magnetic box.

I think it is a good size. I used it to shave down the sides of the drawers on my toolbox build and the top and bottom drawers are pretty large and I didn't have any issues.
