I laughed when you took out all the screws- done that often. But I remember as a young phone engineer all phones had two screws on top. Went to a brand new wall phone , took out top screw and yanked off cover. Bottom broke off as it had a screw at bottom but right at back. Learning experience. Good apprentice asking first! He wont take it off wall before disconnecting again.

@Ellis The DJ I was paying attention, my comment was more about Oscar physically looking to see that the breakers were indeed off before he took the unit off the wall.. he didn't test anything until the unit was dangling by its cables, if this unit had been incorrectly installed and the wires not tightened down it could have been a horrible situation if he had assumed the power was off, especially given he had not taken the covers off the unit first and instead took the unit off the wall.. My point is never to assume anything. In the industry I work in (live events) we deal with 3rd party power providers all the time in conference centres and exhibition venues around the world, and sometimes its better to check things with your own eyes. its something I teach my techs that I train up.

Fair play you are a good teacher to the boy. He's lucky to have such a good teacher. When i was apprentice, i worked for a right knob. Screaming and shouting all the time. Made you feel stupid for asking questions and ruined my confidence. Luckily after i came out of my time I went to a different firm and excelled when i got my confidence back. If I had stayed there i would have jacked electrics. Keep it up young man. Doing a cracking job.

Hi, I have the Terra box installed and it can add to my ChargerSync APP without problem. But when connecting it to ChargerSync on my mobile phone by Bluetooth, my mobile phone ask for a PIN for pairing the Bluetooth. I tried the PIN that ABB comes with the package but it does not work. Any idea what that pin is??

I love the Wallbox kit for the loadbalancing. in NL most homes have 1x35 or 3x25amps. The kit comes with a loadbalancing unit for the consumerunit. It measure all demand by the house and leaves a little margin. The charger gets this data and then charges as much as it can without popping any main fuses. Small unit aswell. A lunchbox is bigger. Up to 30kw I think. Neat little unit. Only issue I have with it is that it only has one gland for the powerfeed. No extra for the signal wire to the loadbalancer.

I'll repeat what I said for the Tesla wall connector install video. It was fine drilling holes in the brick for the first charger, but after that it would be neater to use a mounting panel between the brick and the charger. You could attach the mounting panel using the original holes and then drill new holes in the panel to mount the charger. Also, having 0.5m of cable slack when installing a charger may be a helpful practice going forward. You were smart to not cut the excess length of the 3 wires because you knew that you would need it when you put your original charger back. But, if this ABB charger was the first charger that you installed on the wall you probably would have cut the wires much shorter inside. If the ABB failed and you wanted to replace it with a Zappi then your cable would have been too short unless you left external slack. WIth these chargers being outdoors in the elements I wouldn't be surprised if they have to be replaced every decade or so.
@acelectricalsecurity
@acelectricalsecurity 3 года назад
Maybe these charger companies should have adopted a similar standard to the TV mounts, vesa, before they all run wild and did there own thing, that way inter changing would have been mess free, neater and easier for future replacements.

I think this ABB charger is your first one with a socket ? What are your views on socketed v tethered ? I have a Mini Wallbox Plus with a socket fitted about 3 months ago for my wife's Cooper SE electric here in France. It’s never worked properly...often comes up with error message, “cannot lock cable” and so it won’t charge. I suppose that’s less likely with a tethered charger ? The other big problem is that it takes about 3 times longer to charge than it should...14hours v 4.5. I don’t suppose it’s been set up for 3 phase in error? Any thoughts ?
@artisanelectrics
@artisanelectrics 3 года назад
Yeah I always prefer tethered charge points for that very reason. Also means you don’t have to get the cable out of the boot every time you want to charge. For the Mini Cooper SE I think it’s limited to 3.5kW so you won’t get a full 7kW charge speed even if you have a 7kW charge point, it’s the same with the VW E-Up and quite a few other vehicles with small batteries

Quick question - why do you need PEN fault detection on a TN-S system? I get it for a TN-C-S as the neutral is also the PE conductor, but TN-S has a PE conductor as well.
@artisanelectrics
@artisanelectrics 3 года назад
Unless you can guarantee the TNS will never be converted to TNCS you have to do it anyway, some TNS systems are actually TNCS further down the line.
@grahamek86
@grahamek86 3 года назад
@@artisanelectrics Thanks for coming back to me :) While I appreciate for safety sake, the belts and braces approach, that would suggest that you should then always treat a TN-S as a TN-C-S in that case. If you were to commission an installation that subsequently got converted to a TN-C-S, the DNO would be responsible for ensuring that installations are subsequently safety checked. If your property was approx half way between two substations, would the installation of a ground peg not give rise to a potential between said peg and remote station and end up passing current?

Depends on the apprentice I think. I got thrown infront of the lions when I started. But I was a bit older and had a few years of experience as a mechanic. After 4 weeks i was pretty much left on my own for 95% of easier jobs. Lighting, cable routing etc. I get an apprentice every couple of months. Most of them dont even know how to hold a screwdriver. Thats OK, they are here to learn. But most of them don't exactly have the will to learn either. This bloke seems to focus, asks questions before doing anything. When in doubt, he stops and asks. Fine to leave him on his own. I feel like they trust him enough to stop when he needs to.

Tip If you are going to keep changing units re drilling holes? Buy a PLASTIC bread cutting etc board and fix it to the wall. That means you can then drill holes and use plugs to affix different units whilst only using the original 4 etc screws to fix the board re your wall? I wouldn't use wood etc for obvious reasons, a decent plastic cutting board can be very weatherproof etc.👀👍

Yeah all the videos I’ve watched where they use a tester to prove dad but then they also have a continuity function it seems counterintuitive to me that it would beep almost louder then when it did with live voltage. It confuses me watching the video because all the testers have a different tone as well for continuity.

recently i have installed 3 of them and would say they are worst , connection terminals are bad quality connector and very little space between the terminal and strain relief

One of the PSA Group electric vans (e.g. Vauxhall Vivaro-e) with the 75kW battery?

What difference does it make what van someone drives.

@@timjefferson1886 list price is from £40k to around £47k for van, plus you can only tow about a ton and pay load is similar, the diesel will carry a similar weight but tow more. Vauxhall didn't mention the range in the info. There is no way I would pay that for a van.

Next time put a weather proof plate on the wall where you mount the chargers on. No need to drill extra holes in the wall when changing the chargers.
