As someone from the USA, I'm in awe of how well you work with the folks that we would call your competitors. You lend each other a hand, a tool, half your lunch....quite refreshing.
I feel like this comment shows the difference between the USA mentality* vs Nzers/Kiwis and could be how we got covid under control. Working together and looking after each other - I hope we don't change! *obvs not everyone in the states... maybe just under half 😉
@@amymck6558 I work with my competitors often and we all get along fine. I live in the US. Its a big country and how things are done vary depending on the location in the country. I also have little to no crime where I live. Often people make assumptions about the US but like I said its a large country upstate NY is nothing like NYC. Take care.
With Ryan's ru-vid.comUgkxy_pn55PK60wAV3X_C_RoLS_67mNonoCE plan I was like one taken by the hand and led step by step from start to finish. Thank you very much Ryan!
As a builder of 20 years, respect on incorporating the kauai in to the joinery sill. I wouldn't have thought of that, and most others wouldn't either but it is a very nice touch. Hope your client appreciates it!
Got busy for a bit w work, but felt like something was amiss, then realized I hadn't watched your videos in a few weeks. It's truly a joy to watch (the camaraderie, the shots, the music, the transitions, the building, altogether it is so good) and reminds me to get back to building. When you have a job where you don't get to actually see your work completed it can leave a sense of unfulfillment. But building allows you to see your work, your progress, what you've accomplished. I think that's the reason I like to watch construction videos, and yours, to me, are the best around.
Proper windows and doors for weatherboard with cheek boards so you can install them over the fitted weatherboard. NZ can do it, UK can do it, USA can do it. I have tried to get windows like that in Oz to no avail apparently one sort of window fits all which anyone who doesn't work for an Australian window company could work out is rubbish. We have to fit all the windows and doors and then the weatherboard goes over their flange. Crazy stupid idea that makes new installations hard and replacements a real pain. Much more logical and quality approach in NZ. Lock up for Christmas all good. Looking forward to the new year's exciting episodes. Good work guys.
Hey Parnea - comes from the Latin term "plumba" or "metal lead". Originally a soft metal weight (such as lead) on a string line that was used (with gravity) to measure or draw a vertical line, hence a plumb bob. We used to make them as an exercise in shop class on the lathes. The chemical symbol for Lead is "Pb" from this latin description.
Thanks for a great year of content Scott, Paerau, Richard and everyone else you've had do cameos. Your cousins across the ditch appreciate it. I've learnt heaps this year from your channel that I've practiced the technique on and gotten good enough at that I can implement them on my own home renos. Cheers and Happy New Year!!!
Hope you guys had a great Christmas, Have enjoyed every exciting episode and can't wait for the next one. I have decided that New Zealand will be on the holiday list once this Covid stuff is sorted. The owners must be so pleased with the progress and results.
@Scott Brown Carpentry. Thank you Scott, Paerau, and Rich for every exciting episode and making 2020 bearable. You guys found your calling and your customers are blessed to have you work on their homes. Hope you inspire people to get into the trades and make sure they're always doing a job anyone will be proud of. Hope you guys and your families stay safe and well. Have a Happy New Year. Waiting to see your next exciting episodes in 2021.
Only found your channel this year I'm from the UK. But you are now the only sub I have notifications on for. You are my favourite RU-vidr, I find your videos so relaxing to watch. Have a great couple weeks off, can't wait for the next video!
The thing I most appreciate about Scott’s videos is the sense of fun and camaraderie that comes through each episode. These men seem to sincerely enjoy both their work and each other.
Have a great Christmas Scott, Parau and Richard. Thanks for all the videos showing the definition of professionalism and all the beautiful shots of Auckland - where I grew up! All the very best
02:23 The plumb in plumb bob derives from Latin plumbum ('lead'), the material once used for the weighted bob at the end. Done the research for you Paerau ;)
You beat me to it (well that was one of the random bits of useless knowledge that's been floating around in my head for years). I'm not sure why Roman/medieval builders were saying "That's lead" to mean the lead-weighted string is vertical though...
Well done Scotty, it's nice to see someone who takes the time to install a large door unit correctly. I've lost count on how many of these I've pulled out and reinstalled over the years due to someone doing a shonky initial install.
Watching your videos made this year much better, i am a carpenter myself and seeing how you guys work in comparison to here in The Netherlands has been amusing and I have learned a lot. Wish you all the best and hope to see you next year.
As a joiner/carpenter here in Denmark 🇩🇰 it have been a great joy to see and follow your projects, I wish you a merry Christmas and a happy New Year 🙏 🎄🤶🍻🎁😎
Well done Scott. I'm fascinated with the differences between weatherboard construction in NZ and Aus. On the big island we could learn a lot from your weather sealing and treatment of window flashings. Love your eye for detail.
No Scott, thank you. You and the guys have been a great help in keeping us all sane! The projects have been a joy to watch. Amazing how New Zealand has managed the COVID-19 spread. Here in the UK it is a mess. Anyway, best wishes to you and the guys. 👊
What a treat to watch. I was just recently recommended your videos through RU-vid suggestions. I've since binge watched all of what you have! Looking forward to more videos next year :)
Nice window montage at the beginning to intro the b/fold doors. As always awesome vid, many thanks for your dedication to showing you and your team's work
SBC - Thank you for the educational RU-vid channel. 2020 has has given me an opportunity to watch more RU-vid content from experts like what you & your team create. Enjoy your time off. Cheers! From your fans in the USA. Looking forward to seeing more SBC in 2021.
That"s right Scott you are really coming along . Liked that one Richard. Thanks Guys for great videos and enjoy your holidays and all the best for the New Year.
Super pro and if you ever get caught out without a Richard key again, try a Torx bit t-27 is 5mm, and a t-20 will usually work in a 4mm. t-30 is 5.5mm so a little chancy in a 6. Wishing you and the crew well in 2021!
This episode is rad. I currently build custom doors and windows in the PNW, and I built an Eclipse door system nearly exactly like that just last year. Amazing project, great to see another one across the way. Tell your door guy he is did a fantastic job. And you guys did pretty dang well yourself :) Cheers
Those alan key screws are hard to reach but what you can try if something is that close to a surface is to put a long bitholder (300mm) or something like that on either your drill or bit screwdriver. Its a bit of an angle that way but 9 out of 10 times still able to rotate without damaging the head. Thanks for the great videos!
Thanks Scott for all the entertainment this year. I found your channel midway though lockdown and have watched pretty much all your content. Have a good break
The best vids on you tube......the way you guys work is so laid back......over here I ain’t got time for “smoke time” you look like such a happy crew.......👍👍👍
God how I envy you for taking 2 weeks off and enjoying your time. We are in lock-down here in Latvia until the 11th of Jan, everything's closed, no gatherings etc., you know how it goes. Wish you a happy and much more satisfying 2021 !
That exact reason about the Allen key set is why I got the Milwaukee impact bit set with Allen keys. Throw it in a long magnetic adapter or a long hex head hand driver and I rarely run into problems
I see Richard is wearing an Edmonton Oilers Hockey team hat . I live in Edmonton Alberta Canada and nice to see us represented in New Zealand. Happy new year to all and enjoy your videos from here in Canada
Love those windows/doors. My brother had the same thing on his house in London, kitchen on to deck. Pergola over half the deck, doors open, gave you a 10m long kitchen! That was 15 years ago. I moved to the States 8 years ago and have seen them on two houses here, such a good feature, so under-used here it’s baffling. Happy new year to you and the lads, all the best!
Cool thing about this vid, different construction techniques and materials from the US, pounding coffee, Edmonton Oilers hat, sandwiches, new tools, and beers!
Thank you for all the videos this year. They have been amongst the most enjoyable way to spend my spare time. Have a great well earned rest and i look forward to more of the same quality content in the new year. All the very best and may God continue to bless you.
Thanks for all the amazing you produce. I started watching at the beginning of the lockdown when I stopped having much access to the school woodworkshop but your videos have kept my knowledge up to spec and even gained a lot of knowledge in some places. I can do stuff now a lot quicker, better and even stuff I could not do before. Your videos are a great resource for carpentry students from all sorts of educations and I am internall grateful that thanks to your videos I am now even earning a bit of money in these harsh times. So again. Thank you to you and your team for beeing so awesome and have a great 2021. May we built a awesome year out of it.
Because of youre inspiring videos i desided to do more carpentery upcoming year. I bought the track saw 18v and the milling machine 18v thanks to you handling those in the video’s thanks mate keep up making videos people learn a lot from
Hey Scott thanks to you for taking the time to make all the exciting episodes that you have in 2020 Im sure there is a lot more work that goes into them than the 13min final product we see here and then run a business looking forward to new exciting episodes in 2021 Have a good break cheers
Cool video, the little white houses you show at beginning of video is just like one I lived in when I was was little it was called misses Brooks house. Thanks Chuck
Georgey C. Here from D&G contractor's, good job on the bifold it takes real dedication to do such nice work plus detail, keep up the good work scotty, much respect all the way from wisconsin
Every time I see you do anything to a door your voice comes into my head saying he may drive a Bentley but can be hang a door same as when I see someone driving a Bentley I think but can he hang a door!!
Love watching you and your team. You have a great set of guys with the same love and passion you have for carpentry. Great work Scott and Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Btw, French here, plumb comes from "Plomb" in French, which means lead, (the metal), we (and I imagine everyone but for some reason the french words tend to stick) used to use a heavy lead and a string to figure out if things were level vertically, hence... Plumb! I haven't researched that btw, this is just me being french and assuming everything has to have happened because of us hahaha Cool video as usual, thanks ;)
Scott and Team, Thank you for another year of exciting and very interesting episodes of your building videos. Wishing you a safe and enjoyable Festive Holiday and New Year. Looking forward to resuming the New Year with you all.
thanks for the joy your channel has brought to a bad year on the planet. I envy you your Kiwi World view from the snarlingly toxic UK. Thanks for the mug too. Smoko.
