Funny, I was sitting in my shop chair enjoying a beer after a project and noticed no tow hooks on the front of my new used 2022 Laramie. I couldn't imagine a 4WD without factory hooks up front and figured they must be hiding behind those panels in the bumper. After crawling under and routing my arm in unhuman form to feel in that space.. nothing! So after watching your vid, I used your link and ordered the same aftermarket parts. Thanks for your help!
I just added the hooks to my ‘23 Ram Hemi Big Horn. 18mm on the bolts, 8mm on the 5 wheel well screws, a small 9/32 wrench on the bezel trim nuts. Do not unscrew the nut all of the way, just loosen and slide out and then use a flat tool on the front of the bumper and pry the bezel out. The long 9” bolt, I used a large pipe wrench and rested on the shaft of the bolt and tapped down on the pipe wrench with a hammer to dislodge the bolt retaining clip. My hooks had a solid washer embedded in the rubber grommets so I had to remove the retaining clip on the 18mm bolt to install. Awesome video! 👏👏👏 #ram1500
Your video was great you really made installation of the tow hooks a cinch. Only thing I did different was removing the front panels. After removing the 2 screws I used a butter knife from the front and they popped out. If you’re worried about scratching the chrome on the bumper just place a towel between the bumper and butter knife.
Just picked up a leftover Ram Laramie Sport 4X4! Can't believe it did not come with tow hooks!! Ordered them from Amazon and followed your excellent video. Thanks!!
Agree, the panels gave me hell on installing the screws. I had no issues in taking out-used a trim tool. One hack I used was don't remove the long bolt all the way. Just enough to wrap the big rubber grommet around it then slide the tow hook on it. (My grommets came already pre-cut.) This worked great so no need to hammer out the bolt.
Don’t know how you did that. I tried and tried. Little space to maneuver. Had the front bolt in the way wouldn’t slide forward to force the grommet and bolt into the back of the hook. Tried removing the front bolt. Very awkward. Hell with it . Took 5 secs to pound the bolt out. After I did all that, if I had lifted my truck, your method would have worked easy.
Next time don’t use a hammer to get that bolt out. Little downward pressure with that wrench and loosen the bolt at the same time.cordless impact is your friend Comes right out no hitting.
a year ago i moved from florida to colorado with my 2020 ram 1500 bighorn (with no tow hooks). i never minded in FL because i don't do any off-roading so i never missed them. but out here where it snows, it's def a must for any vehicle, even more so for 2WD vehicles.
Just put mine on... bolts were no problem with a breaker bar. Those front trim pieces were the worstttt. I couldnt reach the nuts getting them on or off. I just ripped them out. Didnt replace them either. Will try and glue them in later i guess
Maybe I'm just paranoid but anything I put on that is more than likely permanent I'll use blue loctite. At least if I change my mind it can still come out but won't from vibrations and rattling.
technically, you wouldn’t have to take those bolts. They’re in the truck out the rubber piece that I got that goes in there has been cut so that you can get the rubber piece around the bolts and then just stick them inside and get the rubber pieces mounted onto your toe hooks without ripping out that big screw.
Great video!!! But I have a question.....do you have to remove that long bolt or can it be left inserted and forced through the thick rubber "washer" since it has a precut slit (as I've seen on other videos)? Just an observation before I start
You do not have to remove the long bolt. Just slide grommet and the hook over the exposed part of the bolt…..install the short front bolt tighten and torque.
I just bought a 2022 Laramie 4x4, I could not believe the ignorance of Ram not putting tow hooks on it. Also ignorant was the lack of rear wheel well covers!? There are two little plastic pieces, one front and one rear of the wheel well that pretty much just collect mud behind them! I blasted Ram when they sent me a product review request... Morons.
@dontburnthehousedownvideos thanks. I love the way they look and better to have them than not. Just waiting on Virginia to stop raining so i can finish the trim.
Appreciate your efforts in showing how you did it. But, invest in a small impact wrench and, how was it that you didn't notice there were no tow hooks? Didn't you walk around the truck before buying it? Anyway, looks good
Which color blue did you use and which rust o leum paint? Just the regular. I'm asking because I'm wondering if it's chipping or coming off at all. Buying a 21 laramie night edition today. I've always had tow hooks on my 4×4's. Looks like a bit of a pain.
I don't remember the exact color of blue but after using them a few times to pull people out of the ditch, some of the paint did chip off. I had to touch them up a few times. I would recommend powder coating them if they're going to be used.
Thank you! They are the Morimoto XB headlights. Here's the video where I installed them. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nhzAdZ-f4wM.html
What hooks did you get? I bought some but didn’t align in the center of the hole so wondering if you have the oem ones or an aftermarket option. If aftermarket do you have a link?
Thanks for the comment. I gotta think that would be a tough one. I'm looking into adding blind spot monitoring and that one is a lot. Proxy door locks is probably right about that level of difficulty.
I painted them with industrial strength Rustoleum spray paint. It's supposed to seal the metal and prevent rust. I haven't had any issues with rust or the paint coming off.
They look very nice. My ram came with them, but since I got the ram. I have wanted to paint them blue. Now I know how easy it is to get them out so I paint them. Thank you for the video.
Lol Thanks for the video my guy, it helped me get through my install especially when the stock screws were just hanging there. Don’t stop posting videos for the fellow Ram owners 👍
I bought 2022 white bighorn with the nightshade trim and didn’t come with the hooks, bought them on Amazon and am trying to paint them red or neon green but I like your blue also. Useful video.
Stuck in the mud? Bro, you, I and the entire world knows that's a princess truck and what you did you will NEVER use those hooks for anything cause that's not what that truck is designed for. It's designed to be a baby.
Well since this video, she got a leveling kit, bigger tires, and of course those hooks. That princess has pulled out 6 people from snowy Minnesota ditches so far this year. And the hooks have performed flawlessly!
@Don't Burn the House Down! dude, don't get me wrong, we just jealous. I've pulled oeople out and get no recognition for it too. Keep on doing God's work.......saving people in the bush randomly when they get stuck.
I guess I'll wait until spring to install mine when I put in the Rough Country LED lights in the grill. Since I'll be pulling most of the front end off.
