It's War of the Spark week in Instant Deck Tech land! All this week we'll be looking at new decks for War of the Spark Standard! During spoiler season there was some hype for a storm-style combo deck with Ral, Storm Conduit, and based on the early results from the format it seems the hype might be justified. Let's look at Infinite Ral Izzet!

I tred your version of this deck but so far mega mogwai's version seems more consistent Not saying this to be a dick but green due to wilderness reclamation, root snare, growth spiral and tamiyo really makes a huge difference Also narset is so good, as she slows control and forces a lot of deck to deal with her first Lol i showed this to combo to my friend eho plays yugioh and he said so pretty much ral is exodia

I really like the version with kefnet. Kefnet has saved me a few times against aggro as being a difficult to deal with blocker and extra removal spell. With kefnet and Ral out you can get 3 uses off 1 Lightning Strike.

Kefnet is so good in tapout. Been working on esper tokens with saheeli and mostly spell token makers with kefnet and hitting a 4 drop token spell and making 6 for 6 mana is nice or drawing 4 for 4 is fantastic and it blocks all day and as long as you hold a card draw spell you redraw it the following turn even with opt.

I've been having a TON of fun with this deck in MTGA. My list is nearly identical to this list except I splash green for wilderness reclamation so I can copy a huge explosion with Ral's -2 for an alternate win condition. I can consistently pull of the combo by turn 6-7. One time, I even won a game vs esper control by using expansion on an expansion they stole using thief of sanity.

I think a Temur version with wilderness reclamation works even better, especially for best of 1 in arena. You can win either with Ral and expansion or with reclamation and explosion. Also the reclamation provides you with tons of mana and the green splash let's you play Growth Spiral which is always good.

I figured the deck for Ral would be a counterburn deck which can randomly go infinite. Reminds me of Saheeli combo, a value deck with an incidental infinite cpmbo.

Bruh, imagine combining this with Niv Mizzet Parun (every time you draw a card, deal 1 damage, whenever an instant or sorcery, draw a card), and Ral's Staticaster (Trample, whenever Ral's Staticaster attacks, if you control a Ral planeswalker, Ral's Staticaster gains +1 +0 for each card in your hand) Then you could have either a backup setup if your combo is disrupted, or instead deal even more damage, if not both simultaneously

Was thinking of going jank weird temur ral elves combo. Went to my first LGS game store in YEARS for standard and got crushed with a over counter deck. I enjoy playing hank so thought going temur ral elves

So I'm hearing damping sphere sideboard. Also part of why I love new karn in bo1 decks. Damping, spyglass and theumatic, also winning with bolas statue bestdown. But seriously damping plus statue makes casting the first 2 cost 9 mana and it's a 6/6 that pings for 1. It's basically the most hilarious finisher that I can think of.

If you -2 and go directly to end, say your opponent goes for an opt or smtg in end step, you only need 1 expansion to cast on their spell on stack, which get doubled by ral

Yeah, it has to be the opponent that casts the spell though (if you cast the Opt the Opt will get doubled rather than the Expansion).

Having a hard time with this deck against low agro curve agro stuff like mono red. Monk white. Etc. What should I be side boarding in for matches like that

I just wasted my rare wildcards on these copy instants, but in MTGA you can't choose the copy spell to be copied by a copy spell for some reason. (I used Expansion and Narset's Reversal.)

Can't Ral's -2 be the 2nd Expansion? The problem is the empty stack but it somehow feels weird that you need 3 cards that have the ability to copy a spell for the infinite loop

The problem with this is his ability is sorcery speed. And nah, you only need 2 expansions, and 1 instant / sorcery with cmc

@@lambdaman256 sorcery speed = empty stack. And yes, you only need 2 Expansions copying each other but with a Planeswalker on the battlefield who litteraly has the same effect. I know how it works, I was saying that it just feels weird.

@@lambdaman256 this line is even less intuitive cause you win with an unused Double Cast trigger on the stack. You either win with unused Ral - 2 or with a remaining Double Cast trigger. It just feels so redundant but you can't cut the 3rd combo piece. If you -2 Ral and your opponent let's it resolve but now uses any instant then a single Expansion should win you the game?

The backup combo is like this: 1.) -2 Ral to copy the next spell 2.) Cast Doublecast 3.) Ral's ability creates a copy of Doublecast 4.) Let the copy of Doublecast resolve, but keep the original on the stack. 5.) With the original copy of Doublecast on the stack cast Expansion copying the Doublecast 6.) The resolved copy of Doublecast will copy Expansion. 7.) Go into the infinite Expansion loop (copy of Expansion copies original Expansion, copy targets original Expansion, copy target Original expansion until all enemies are dead).

Why couldn't you just use rals neg to copy the first expansion targeting that expansion? And then go infinite with just that?

Because expansion needs a target spell to work.
