The secret to cutting onions without crying is: Don't become emotionally attached to them they are not pets. Best wishes to you and yours from Missouri too.
Thank you guys so much for these videos! I have my first batch of home raised rabbits in the freezer and you guys taught me how to do pretty much every step of it! This recipe looks great! Excited to try it
I wish I could find meat rabbit at the market. We were gifted a rabbit or week by my landlord when I was raising my girls , alone. Her son was trying to get a market/restaurant business started in san angelo, tx. Mrs Dean was a friend and a saint to us. Now I wrote in today to mention, you already know I'm sure, but vent your instapot or any steam from NOT under your cabinets. Eventually it will rust metal parts, warp the wooden parts. And as u are be careful. Fondly job
I never get tired of your kitchen time uploads. Such a pleasure to watch. I gotta get an Insta Pot. I'm overrun with wild rabbits, so I only have to raise my own every 2-3 years. They keep very well when frozen if you vacuum seal them. Edit....I sure like the hat. Save your egg money and buy Kevin a 'basket case'. He can build a bike up at his own pace/budget, AND just the way HE envisions it. VERY satisfying.
We love our instant pot. The one that makes yogurt is awesome. Everyone says it's the best yogurt they have ever had, including me and I have never really liked store bought yogurt.
I learned how to carve a rabbit with your video a few weeks ago and, today used this method to cook the most tender rabbit! Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us!!
Thank you for this video, this is a simple recipe directions to cooking rabbit. I love rabbit meat, just wanted something real simple to follow and do. That’s cool to cook from frozen. Awesome and thanks again
This is incredible. Thanks for sharing. We started meat rabbits about a year ago, and I have had trouble coming up with quick ways to prepare it. Remembering to thaw them has been challenging! Definitely going to look into your recipe book!
Rewatching and making this for dinner tonight. Gonna not tell family what it is. I just started raising rabbits and they are suspicious, so I wanna see if they can tell the difference. Thank you! And just ordered your book.
I have cooked rabbit in a pressure cooker from dead frozen to table in 30 minutes so I know what you are talking about. It is cooked and tender in such a short time. Very convenient. I have cooked with a pressure cooker and a crock pot but the method I now prefer is a thermal cooker. If you are not familiar, a quick Google search will show you. They work on an old method of retained heat like a hay box. There are many advantages and fuel savings is only one. They are also a wonderful 'emergency option'.
I'm glad I found this video, yesterday I follow the instant pot thaw process and Voila! in 30m I have a nice rabbit , shredded and then continue with the your honey soy recipe... delicious.😉
Looks delicious. If you don't have rabbits, I bet you could use that sauce for chicken too. That Instant Pot is neat. I have a pressure cooker that I use often.
every time i tell people that i dont lie, cheat, or steal, i can see dis-belief on thier faces. i know just by listening to you, that you are the same way. it is very refreshing just to know there is at least one other person in this world, that is worth listening to! i wish you, and yours well!
You fix so many healthy, yummy-sounding recipes, I'm curious about your girls' school lunches. Do you pack leftovers, make healthy meals, or do they eat the lunches provided at the school?
I grew up on rabbit meat. My dad used to hunt them. I haven't cook a rabbit in 20 years. I will definitely try to find a rabbit in the grocery store when our stay-in-place order is lifted in Illinois. I used to buy the Pel-Freeze brand. I hope they are still available.
I’m going to try this recipe, but I would research the pink salt it’s full of heavy metals these days, a bit sad, so I’ve changed to natural sea salt with kelp
Hahahahhahaha!!!!! I watch most of your videos on an iPad mini. So when I saw the title it just said Pot Recipe. I was like, what the heck the making pot brownies or something hahahahaha. Glad it was rabbit lol!!!!
I have raised rabbits for years but honestly never liked the meat as it was a little bland no matter what I did. UNTIL I got a power cooker like you use. Infuses more flavor into the meat and it is wonderful. Love it this way.
Have you done an episode on your rabbits yet? I'd love to know more about them and your set up... what you like about it and in hindsight, what you'd do differently. ty
Ahhh, today is the day...frozen rabbit in our electric pressure cooker...plan will be to shred and put into rabbit and dumplings tonight with veggies...
I am trying to learn how to use my insta pot...not being very successful. Thank you for making this recipe. Would love it if you would convert your Rabbit Recipe book to Insta pot.
+Nancy Fahey....I second Sarah's response. Rabbit bone broth is da bomb. Not as much fat as with other animals, but very tasty and good for your health.
I barely remember my family raising meat rabbits when I was young and my husbands family did as well. I would like to try them again as an adult to see if I like the taste. What breed of rabbits do you raise and where do you get them.
If you don't raise a pig ...do you ever like trade produce in meat with other people who raise pigs and then you give them butchered chickens or rabbits in exchange for a pig already butchered and whatnot?
Okay, so you said at the start of cooking that 30 min(3:45) was all that is need to cook the rabbit but at the time when you took the rabbit out your said 45 min total(9:44). So how much time did it take?
I'm going to ask the same question as Danielle but you didn't answer and that was two years ago but.....How long should I have it in the pressure cooker if it’s completely thawed?
I was raised on a Meat Rabbit Farm till I was 10 or 11, We had over 2000 rabbits. We had lots of Rabbit pot pies but We were told that it was Chicken. The first time when on my own and buying Chicken pot pies, I was extremely disappointed because it tasted nothing like the chicken pot pies I was raised on. I was then told that it was rabbit and not chicken . How much cook time Per Lb. of Rabbit?
OMG we just discovered another way to use your amazing IP shredded rabbit. We make our version of Shepherd's Pie with it. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees. In a pan, take the shredded rabbit and saute it in the hot pan with a generous splash of olive oil, add fresh ground black pepper, brown slightly then cover with one 12 oz jar of turkey gravy, rinse out jar with 1/4c of dry cooking sherry, add to pan, simmer until gravy reduces slightly. Place in the bottom of an oven safe pot (cast enamel or ceramic work well). Top with your favorite frozen mixed veggies (we use the california medley but the carrot mix works great too). For the next layer cover the veggies with sharp cheddar cheese (we take a full 8oz block of cheese sliced up). The final layer is mashed potatoes. Any kind will do (homemade, Bob Evans premade, boxed, they all work well). Pop in the oven for 30 mins or so and Voila! Easy and delicious dinner! Enjoy! Thanks again for this amazingly easy shredded IP Rabbit recipe. We LOVE watching your channel!
i want to start breeding rabbits for meat but i live in an apartment, its doable because my landlord allows pets but im worried about the smell, i used to breed mice and the smell wasnt too bad even with a ton of males. will a buck, doe and a litter stink up my whole apartment? i especially want to do it because i plan on eating the meat and giving the bones and organs to my dogs, so besides the hide the whole animal will be used
+littlepiggydog on IG Some people keep pet rabbits inside and make it work. I, personally, would only keep them outside. It is possible to litter train them, but you really need to keep up with the litter because of how much they go. Male rabbits don't have a strong scent (like male rats or goats), but their urine does. Male rabbits will also spray their urine to mark their territory and spray at/towards females.
Go ahead and try it. I raise meat rabbits but once in a while I end up with one that is special and becomes and indoor pet. Many people have indoor rabbits. It is like having a cat or dog. You need to clean after them daily. You can purchase or make urine guards for the males but like the comment above, they are not smelly animals. They clean themselves a lot like cats do. I have Rottweilers that do help eat the parts that we don't so it can be worked out if you are dedicated. If it absolutely does not work for you then you can either eat the rabbits or find someone who will want them as breeders.
Not if you change the cage regularly. I found with hamster it was the girls that stank to attract the males. Our rabbits and guinea pigs never stank. But you will probably keep more on top of cleaning the cages if they are inside. The wee stinks if you leave it too long. My sister's rabbit was a little bit for marking his territory and he was inside but he only did that if he thought you weren't giving him enough attention and they let him loose in the house. He is running around my parents garden now.
Wonderful video! A tip for strong onions, I find the longer they are stored the stronger they become because of lost moisture. Cut them in half and run cold water over them for half a minute before chopping up. Makes a world of difference!!
On man my grandson (age 3) has been begging for a rabbit. ♥ But not to eat, ha ha. BTW, I have a ton of Instant Pot Recipes that I uploaded if you want to check them out. Thanks, Mike
I am planning on retiring in 4 years. I see you grow out a large number of rabbits and your husband does the butchering. Can you grow rabbits on a smaller scale? It would be me raising and butchering. I am wondering if this would be feasible for a mid 60s woman?
Absolutely! They are easy to keep. They can scratch so be sure to wear long sleeves. I am a woman almost 60 and I maintain a large herd of rabbits myself. I make their cages, raise and process them. (Sorry, I don't like the word "butcher", it sounds so harsh, I process them.) I encourage you to give it a try. You could also incorporate help if you offer them some rabbit meat.
Hi Sarah! I love fried rabbit and gravy. And I always been told you can’t eat pet rabbits that you raise. I also love your mixer, I got the same one for Christmas. And my wonderful husband also bought me the Instant pot and some of the assessories to go with it right after Christmas. I’ve got to use the instant pot twice and I love it. I’ve not got to use my mixer yet but I know I’m going to love it also. Because I just had surgery on Dec. 28th to put in a spine stimulator to help with my back pain. And I was in the hospital Dec. 28 - Jan. 2 in the hospital. And then went back in the hospital on my birthday Jan 15 with an infection in my blood called Sepsis and I’m still in the hospital but I’m still using my phone to watch my friends like you that I watch on RU-vid. Thank you so much for sharing this instant pot recipe.
So I cooked a frozen rabbit in the instant pot with two cups of water on high pressure for 30 minutes and let the pressure come down naturally. It was definitely not as soft and tender as I had hoped it would be. I am new to using my instant pot. Should I try cooking it longer next time? If so, what time would you think would work better? The rabbit was definitely tasty and fully cooked I just hoped it would be more tender and shred easily. Thanks!
I'm originally from Wisconsin too. But putting BBQ sauce on something doesn't make it barbecued. So many supper clubs in our area sell BBQ ribs that have been boiled and baked.
