Insurgency Sandstorm is still fun to come back to in 2024 

Absolutely, as a sound recording engineer I am always blown away from 3 titles: 1. Insurgency Sandstorm 2. Squad 3. Ready or Not Those 3 titles are hard to beat in terms of sound design.

I honestly think insurgency is still the best FPS on the market ,If it just had better graphics and More multiplayer game modes like S&D and more outside the box game modes. It would be top of the steam charts the Gunplay is so smooth. Hopefully someone takes over this studio. Insurgency is COD for adults

It's a shame bc this game has great gunplay and ragdolls (I'd say its on par with cod) but the modes don't fit the game. Tries to be too fast paced

@@TheUltimateHacker007 L take. gunplay and ragdolls are both better than cod. the modes made specifically for the game that exist nowhere else (push, frontline) definitely fit into the game for which they were designed. if you want something slower, try squad or arma.

The only way to figure out what is missing is: to play other similar FPS, which have things made slightly different, and then to observe and compare them with Sandstorm, in a very analytical way. And to discuss it with other people, because someone can have noticed a detail that you have not Personally I compared Sandstorm to other tactical FPS such as: Rising Storm Vietnam, Insurgency 2014 (which feels significantly different than Sandstorm), Ground Branch, as well as other games I watch in video. And I have taken a lot of time thinking about it. And at the end here are the main things that Sandstorm would need to not feel off (at least to me): (It is a little long sorry) 1) more gritty and raw colors, similar to Insurgency 2014. In order to visually feel more raw and immersive 2) suppression effect when bullets fly close around you (or when an explosion happen very close to you) --> your peripheral vision is significantly darkened and blurred; and your recoil is quite higher, and your aim is not 100% static anymore but a little moving which makes target acquisition harder, and your reload speed is quite slower, and your aiming speed is quite slower) Such a feature would give a very high and super immersive "danger" feeling when bullets fly close to you. Both visually and in term of gameplay 3.1) When taking a serious non-lethal hit (from bullet or explosive): the peripheral vision gets temporarily significantly darkened and blurred, and the view gets slightly red for the same amount of time (~5-7 sec) then it gradually disappears (or not entirely, depending on health status) (Currently when you take a serious non-lethal hit there is nothing but a tiny red filter..) 3.2) When taking a serious non-lethal hit (from bullet or explosive), or when taking a bullet hit in the leg: the ability to sprint is disabled for ~7 secs, and the walking speed is reduced by half for the same amount of time (and if you were sprinting when being hit: it cancels your sprint; and you cannot sprint again before ~5-7 secs) And when taking a serious non-lethal hit when sprinting: it cancels your sprint (and you cannot sprint before ~5-7 secs) (Because currently you can take a serious hit and still sprint everywhere as if nothing happened, which is quite bad in term of immersion and gameplay in my opinion) 3.3) When taking a light or serious hit, the recoil management gets worse for ~5-7 secs as well as aiming speed, as well as reload speed. Then it gradually becomes normal again (or not, depending about health status. If seriously wounded: then it stays) 4) A bleeding effect, similar to Rising Storm Vietnam: when taking a serious non-lethal hit, you can (this occurs randomly when you take a serious non-lethal hit) start bleeding. And you slowly bleed out, and if you don't bandage yourself: you bleed out and then die (and the screen becomes more and more dark, starting from the peripheral part of the screen, as you bleed out and until you die). And you have only one bandage for each life With all of these features: it would give a super high and immersive "danger" feeling. And would make the stakes higher. Which would be a huge improvement in term of immersion and gameplay in my mind (things would feel way less arcadey) Because currently you can have lots of bullets fly close to you, you can even take a serious hit: it has zero effect (except giving you a tiny red color filter on the screen). So there is zero "danger" feeling. Additionally: 5) Nerf side stepping speed when shooting from hip or full auto shooting (to prevent overpowered arcade "spamming left and right while full-auto hipfiring" stuff). At least nerf the ability to spam left and right: make things so that if you spam left and right it makes the changing of direction slow, starting from the 2nd or 3rd change of direction 6) Nerf jump mechanics (to prevent CoD-like overpowered stuff). Basically: give a 0.5-1.0 sec delay (depending on the height of the jump) between the moment player's feet land and the moment he can fully run&gun again (like a "little delay to find balance again after jumping and landing" stuff) (and same stuff after a little fall). And also give fall damage sooner. So that if you jump from the first floor of a building you take at least some damage (currently you can jump from very high without problem, which is quite un-immersive and overpowered) 7) and finally, very important: rework full auto so that full auto becomes more "bouncy" (your line of fire bounces more when you fire in full-auto). Because currently the line of fire barely bounces in full-auto, allowing full auto to be accurate at very high distances; which is unrealistic and quite un-immersive and makes full-auto super overpowered. And also make the recoil gradually increase as you keep full auto firing. Similar to how it is in Rising Storm Vietnam (thus the longer your full-auto burst is, the harder it is to stay accurate and control the weapon. Which is realist/immersive and very balanced in term of gameplay). And additionally: include "reticle bounce" when full auto firing. So that things becomes more realist and balanced, and more dificult to aim when full auto firing (Because currently your reticle does not move at all when you fire full auto, it just stays at the center of the screen and does not move. Even with magnified optics. Thus you can spray full auto at 100 yards while still being full accurate, particularly with magnified optics, which is super unrealistic and super overpowered). All these changes would make full-auto gameplay more immersive and balanced. Because currently full-auto is way too overpowered 8) Last thing: give us some small-scale 5vs5 CQB-based game-modes. So that we can fully appreciate the CQB gameplay of the game So basically here are the things that are lacking in Sandstorm for me, and makes it feel significantly off to me (despite its very good qualities).
