Just as I thought, it's that simple. I took my 20 sierra Denali in for a 30k mile service. Oil change & rotation was the usual $65. Tell me why the up sell for the intake filter & cabin air filter pushed that price up to $175? Obviously I declined. 🙄 It's a good thing to have some basic knowledge for basic maintenence of your vehicle. I can get both filters for about $20 each so nah, I think I'll save the extra $75 for my next tank of gas for this awesome truck. 😉 Great video! 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Delco filters are generally pretty good, I don't think they make them anymore, but the company which they outsource does a good job. Several years back a company which tests filters decided to do a wide range of options. This was in 2007? Many years back probably no longer applies but out of them all Delco performed the best for filtration. They also checked for resistance against a K&N filter, no serious difference at wide open throttle, though the K&N filter efficiency was much worse. I really use to like Purolator, they had a great reputation, however they where bought out (the fate of any good company). Quality has dropped some due to it, most noticeable their oil filters, many reports of the filter media cut from the factory. Purolator isn't a horrible brand, but previously I wouldn't think twice about any product they sold as being anything less than good if not great quality. That reputation makes a company valuable to investors, and sooner or later they are bought out. Quality slowly drops, and it generally takes consumers a decade or two to realize something serious has changed. I would still run the filter, not saying throw it, but it helps to keep in mind the original Purolator no longer exists, they where purchased for the name. The parts they sell are not to the same standard as a few years ago. Shame honestly every year we lose more, and more of the remaining good brands.
Yea its totally true. So many manufacturers becoming just brands for white label. I have heard Purolator oil filters have become bad. It seems like everything good gets commoditized but thats just how life progresses. Eventually we wont need oil filters for the masses as electric picks up. The we will have niche players come back to making quality parts for enthusiasts. While that happens electric will get commoditized over decades. Its just the cycle were in. I see it now with my day job industry (tech/hosting/datacenters).
