@@EduardoVasquezMedina I honestly don't know if I agree with that. Valve has been wanting to make steam accessible in more portable ways for years. The switch was also not the first handheld, not by a long shot. We had multiple generations of PSP, gameboys, the Sega Game Gear etc etc

The deck has been in R&D for 10 yrs prior to release they aint do shit valve was allways headed in that space nintendo just capitalized on there mobile presence they didnt reinvent the mobile space they defined it for years.. but valve they reinvented a whole new market

It's really the chip becoming small enough now to allow non-trivial games to run on a lower wattage. We can all thank the Switch and Steam deck for it 😊

literally NO. Linux is far superior, and already powers the entire industry. The only pro-consumer move is to kick Microsoft out of their OS monopoly and use open solutions like the SteamOS

What do you use to manually cool your laptop? I'm currently trying a banano leaf with decent results.

I laughed at this. My MSI laptop has thermal throttling issues. No vents are under the fan intakes on the bottom and the cooler boost compensates for this poor design. I first raised up the bottom off the desk to help, but it wasn't much better. I threw a bigger storage stick in and left the bottom off to test. Bottom of case off solved the problem. For a bit I left the screws out while it was at home and would pop the bottom off while it was in an A vertical on my desk and hooked up to monitor and dock. I plan to pick up a spare bottom and cut holes in it. It was so bad though I considered returning it. Only things that saves MSI is the advanced BIOS, they offered an all AMD Advantage configuration I wanted at a sale price.

Why would you need cooler boost if you're not even using the iGPU? An eGPU would likely reduce the Claw's power draw.

@@AlexandrMTL the cooler boost increases the fan speed. So if you’re using the egpu you will be also using more cpu power when you play at a higher level of graphics. It’s obviously made for when it’s plugged in under hard use

@@legostarwarsrulez false. If you’re playing games at 1440p or something and have a bunch of other settings turned up then you will be using more cpu power. If all you did was connect the egpu and not bump up the graphics at all then maybe that would be true. Also, if it’s plugged in, the cooler you can get it the better, since the cooler it runs the better performance you get, even without an egpu

The power consumption was very explicitly stated. 15W, 30W, and 45W. It's not TDP - it's the actual power draw. With a 60W/hr battery, you can napkin math estimate the battery life of each power profile

I agree, the z1 extreme is a beast compared to the van gogh in the steam deck. Itd be hard to imagine this being that much better. I think they should have done that lenovo did with the legion go, and add cool features to the thing. This just looks like a rog ally clone with different internals. They need to set themselves apart more IMO. The specs would have to be insane for this to be worth upgrading to.

@@alexcrowder1673 agreed but I have a Go and a SD and the SD is still my go to. It amazing what they can do in that power envelope. But I love the Go’s 8” screen and I can do more “stuff” with it because it’s running Windows.

Unfortunately, this is true, the design is completely the same as Rog Ally and they also placed a slot for Micro Sd cards under the hole for heat removal. Msi was very disappointing, literally completely copying Asus from the screen to the design of the device, I was hoping that they could come up with something of their own .

@@retrobulldozer8723 that design isn't what causes the micro sd failures and they aren't happening to every single device. It was the poor soldering and manufacturing quality control. MSI is more than capable of producing quality boards for their devices

Steam Deck absolutely nailed controls and ergonomics in a way none of these other handhelds come close to. That plus Steam OS makes me just completely uninterested in anything else, even if they're a bit faster.

Not everyone likes it though, that’s very subjective I for one like the Xbox layout a lot, not a fan of the ps layout I also don’t like the placement of the dpad on the deck but to each their own

@@CJTheTokay i agree. I had the steam deck and didn't like the layout of the buttons and sticks. Got an Ally and its much more preferable like the Xbox controller

I was holding mine while watching this and obviously tested it as soon as he said that but mine can be pushed in at any spot and work so idk what he’s talking about

Negative. There are multiple audiences for these devices, they are no longer limited to the previous audience who have very specific ideas of what a handheld should be. More use cases these days.

It’s a physics and thermodynamics thing. Its going to blast through its battery if its drawing 45 watts for just the apu.

They're going for a different segment of people who want that. Whether or not it's built well and has good software support is another thing

Steam deck OLED already ranges from 2-12 hrs. iirc. I expect next release to be 3-15 at least. I don't mind 800p unless screen gets bigger.

We have no idea what the actual performance/efficiency curve is cause Dave's just being paid to promote a product that isn't ready yet (and using outdated info on other handhelds). We should just wait to evaluate assertions like that once the device is being actually reviewed

intel only really develop for mass markets, so i guess they saw no real need to be in the handheld market until the steam deck showed the potential sales.
