Found your channel through a comment you put on one of my hoverfly shorts(!). Looks great, so I have subscribed! I hope to learn lots to help insects in the garden😄
Everything you say is interesting, Dani !! You're a wealth of knowledge and it's so kind of you to share with us. We haven't had much rain in my neck of the woods. We thought we would have a little this week but the rain just skirted around us. The temperatures are scorching hot here and next week the temps are supposed to be in the 100`F range (actual temp, not just the heat index). I'm keeping my plants watered using a moisture meter, as I am not nearly as bright as you are about plants. I have discovered that just because I'm hot and thirsty, it does not mean my plants are thirsty! I've been meaning to ask you if you have any nut trees. We have a walnut and pecan tree by our house. The squirrels are very happy to have those nuts. You talk about your fruit trees and bushes, so I was just curious about if you had nut trees, as well. It's almost the weekend!! So, I'll wish you a happy weekend with your family. And, I hope you can enjoy some quiet time in your lovely garden, having a cup of tea or reading a chapter from your favorite book...not working, just enjoying the sights, sounds (of the birds), and fragrances (from all of your beautiful flowers and fruits). You deserve some quiet time after all the labor (of love) you put into your garden. 🙂🌷🌻🌹🌳
Aw, thank you, Debbie. The heat sounds so unrelenting in your area. I know I'm wishing for sunshine, but rain really is a blessing, especially as I really try to avoid watering the garden to keep costs down - except pots, that is - they dry out far too quickly, even on overcast days. I love the sound of your nut trees, especially the pecan!! I don't think they grow here. Nut trees really would be ideal companion plants for an Eleagnus, as they are so nitrogen hungry. I do have two contorted hazelnut trees. They are still young, like most of the trees in the garden, but are extra pretty because they are Contorted Hazels, so have twisty, twirly stems that I love to use in flower arrangements. One of the two is red, so it will be fun to have two different coloured nuts when they fruit. We also have a little Walnut tree that we grew from nuts we collected on the boys' school grounds. There are several huge English Walnut trees dotted about that area, so the ground is always covered with tasty treats in the Autumn. I'd love to collect some early this year as we have a delicacy (I guess you could call it that) here called pickled walnuts, which you make with unripe green walnuts. You serve it with cheese platters. Yes, the weekend is approaching again. How lovely! Wishing you a wonderful, relaxing and cooler one!! We are off to a birthday party this Sunday, but have to be home in time for football as England is playing in the Euro finals, so my household is very excited😁 Take care. Kind regards, Dani
@@backyardsnackyard I would imagine your home really comes alive when football is on the schedule. My son had started teaching me about the rules and regulation of football around 2019. I think American football and Euro football are a bit different. But, I never had much interest in the game as there are frequent injuries and that makes me a little crazy. To me, it seems that the rules and regulations were established by males because I just don't think females (especially Moms) would agree with a lot of those rules. But, I did become interested in the game and now have my own favorite teams and players. And, sometimes I do get carried away if the scores are close. Many years ago I often told my son, "the winner is always the team with the most points at the end of the game". During the last Super Bowl we watched together in 2022, my favorite team was playing and my son reminded me of what I had been telling him for decades! So, it will amaze you later in life, when your boys grow into men, the things they will repeat back to you. Things you taught them and wondered if they were listening...they ARE listening!!! Hope you all have lots of fun watching the game. Go England! 🇬🇧
@@debbielewis6479 yes, I think American football is more like rugby here, which I have never encouraged my boys to play. It's so rough and (in my eyes) dangerous. I know they wear protective gear, but it would be way too hard for me to watch🙈 I believe our football is what you call soccer, where they just kick a football back and forth. Much more gentle I think😁 It's so funny what sayings and tidbits our children remember. They really are little sponges taking it all in. Hope you are enjoying your weekend. We're going in to town today as two of the boys want Summer haircuts. Hopefully Summer weather will follow.
Yes, space is such an issue. Our neighbours are moving and just showed us their new home which sits in a 0.68 acre plot - complete with a greenhouse, raised veg beds and some fruit trees. I wanted to swap houses😆😆
