The '85 Super Bowl Champion Bears is ranked by more than a few as the greatest NFL team of all time. The team was comprised of more than a few "diverse" personalities, e.g., Jim McMahon, William "the Refrigerator" Perry, Mike Singletary and Gary Fencik. The guests discussed the iconic nature of the team, their relationship with the best running back of all times, Walter Payton, the tension between coach "Iron Mike" Ditka, once a Bear all-pro tight end and supreme motivator, and Buddy Ryan, the defensive coordinator, the locker room and on-field discussions and events beginning in 1982 and ending at the 1985 Super Bowl. The overall theme: the team then and the members now had fun and are all members of a very close knit family. Guests: Emery Moorehead (tight end), Steve McMichael (defensive tackle), Keith Van Horne (offensive right tackle), Otis Wilson (outside linebacker), Shaun Gayle (corner back/safety) and Mike Richardson (safety)

The 85 bears had such an impact on this country in so many ways that it would be hard to realize them all. I'll be 70 years old next up and my football ended in 86. I watch all of the 1985 games each year and relish that awesome year over and over because there will never be another team like it. I have heard a bit of grumbling about the players and I'm sure there was because it always is some of that. But every one of the people that made up that team in my book were and still are champions. Finally, there are several of the team players and others that have died since that victorious season. God bless them and thank all of you 1985-1986 bears for so many memories of that season that will last forever and beyond.

Yes. I’m sure they would. But… all I have to say is ‘72 Dolphins. Until another team goes undefeated, that conversation is over.

Everyone knew and appreciated this team and Forest Greg said the '85 Bears had the "Ideal Personnel For That Style Of Defense" And he went into stop All the Green Bay meeting rooms and said, " I want to show you a football player" and he showed 5 clips of Walter Payton, and in everyone of them he wasn't a runner, but a blocker. Everyone on that team was a gifted human being & stood tall under the weight of that gift !

...it was Emery Moorehead who picked Jimmy Robinson up off the slush covered astro turf of Giants Stadium back in '77 when Fencik delivered one of the most vicious hits in the history of the NFL.
@muffs55mercury61
@muffs55mercury61 5 лет назад
That was really something. Fencik looks too nice of guy to have been what he was, real business like and came from Yale if I'm not mistaken.

Fencik still looks more like a lawyer or businessman than a football player. Jekyll & Hyde is right.

You know, as a Chicago sports fan and a Bears fan mostly I will say this: a major reason why they did so well was that offenses could not figure out their schemes. Even if the physical rules were allowed today (meaning the hitting etc), a more spread offense with like 4 receivers and a QB like a Marino who got rid of the ball quickly would make a huge difference. Rewatching that season, you can start to see the holes. Love the team though

During the previous MNF game, O.J. Simpson said the Bears couldn't pass. My take on the Miami game is, the Bears came out passing to prove Simpson wrong, and fell behind, and had to keep passing. They were winning games by running the ball and controlling the clock. Had they done that from the start, and the Dolphins had a weak run defense, Marino wouldn't have been on the field too much.

@runner6500
@runner6500 7 лет назад
I will always blame O.J. Simpson for the Miami loss. Marino never should have had the ball that much. The previous week on MNF, O.J. questioned the Bears passing attack and game calling. Remember, the Bears ran the ball and controlled the clock. That was their game. Miami had poor run defense, but they come out passing. A couple of INTs, and they're behind, and have to pass, giving Marino the ball more often.
