@@jaredbrown6066 their last album came out in 2011, IIRC. Think they broke up in 2013?? Frickin tragic. We are all so abused, to have been blessed by all their talent but for such a small # of albums. It's like, "Here is 3 1/2 hours of heaven, now get your asses back to the cesspool you live on."
@@ignoblesavage5559 my apologies from what I read about them is that they broke up in 2005 unless that's when they released the cd that had Dance of the Manatee on it
I'm happy every time I see someone give this band a chance. They're among my all time favourites, criminally underrated, and their sound is simply outstanding!
Loved this reaction! And I'm super biased because they're my favorite band haha. I've heard that song so many times and yet I'm still rockin' out every time I hear it
One of my favorite melodies ever is after the hard growling vocals, "Listen to proven guarantees while you're rolling up your sleeves, beatin' on the chest. But we can keep it in a jar, when it's comin' cats and dogs for days."
Really appreciate seeing someone recent getting into FTM. I was really fortunate to find out about them in the early days and got to see them many many times live, and trust me...this is the one band that "wait til you see them live" was deadly accurate. These boys in concert...Jesus. It wasn't just music, it was a religious experience. But, back to my point...I often wax nostalgic about the days when FTM was still out there, and troll the internet hoping I might find some tidbit of theirs that I somehow never saw or heard. Tonight...tonight I got to see someone have that moment I had so many years ago. Trying to put words to what you just heard. Trying to describe it. Trying to identify what made Darroh and the boys wiggle into the depths of your soul. Struggling to define just what the f*** is different about them and why it strikes so true. Loved it man. Hope you continue to dig into their work, I'll check out some more of yours now.
You nailed it! I was too young to ever see them live but I grew up on this band. Still a huge inspiration to me today in my own music. One of my goals if I ever make it big or get rich is to fund one more album for them free of charge and let them go completely wild. A boy can dream anyways.
Been searching for this song for probably 10 years, found it yesterday...finalllyyyy. and to my surprise there's a recent reaction. Its the voice. His range is insane. They put it together very pleasingly for the ears.
FAIR TO MIDLAND! This band is so underrated and so talented. You gotta react to "Musical Chairs" by them. I don't think you will be disappointed. Thanks for the reaction!
Also, I have no idea why this sounds so different then the radio vers, I kinda like the rough version better, but this version his singing is so clean I can understand him better
The original was from their self-recorded/engineered, etc. album. When they got signed to a label, they re-mastered the album. It added some things, but kind of went a bit heavy with the compression on the re-master. Still a great track, just sounds different when you're used to the original.. I went through the same, I still have the original CD so I hear the difference everytime. 😁👍 Glad you liked my request, I thought T might like them, and I love to spread the love to the unknown, or under-appreciated bands out there!
@@mojoriot2293 ahhhhh I see, yeah I think for this song, that gritty, rough sound rounded it out nicely, but the vocals here are better. Made me realize how badly I misheard the lyrics lol, but I've been singing it that way for so long, I can't unhear it lol
@@anzamoni Yeah, without knowing the lyrics, or even an idea of what they might be saying, it's hard to sing along. But their lyrics are incredible. Soulful, poignant, poetic...etc. With a dash of crazy...😁👍
...and that singer! When I knew him he went by Andrew, but he goes by his last name now I think & I can't remember right now, but he is a true talent for sure. His 'antics' live reminded me of Izzy Pop, swinging the mic around his neck...You really should see them live, I'll try & find a good live vid, they're rare, but the song "Musical Chairs" has a video that's live, but it's staged like a mtv video style of "live," if you know what I mean. Ok, enough blabbing.. Thanks for playing my song! I was about to start playing my PS4 when I got a notification about the vid. I probably looked like a kid at x-mas, I was excited & was very glad you like my suggestion...til next time! Later T! 🤘😁👍
Another voice in the wilderness crying out the freaking magnificence of FTM...but brother...& I get it, this song was the closest thing they ever had to a popular song, and it's great. But it's maybe not even top 15 of their short catalogue. My money? Uh-oh, Whiskey & Ritalin, Quince, Say When, Granny Niblo & Orphan Anthem '86 (both from InterFundaStifle), oh, and Abigail from that one. And Vice Versa. And Short-haired Tornado. And Musical Chairs. And so on. Anyhow...bully 4 U getting them played/reacted to. T, thank u so much for reacting to my favorite band ever, and the songs I mentioned above are ALL amazing, each for different reasons. These guys were never boring.
@@paulstoliker3303 Yep, agreed...btw, this was my request. My favorite song is probably "A Wolf Descends Upon the Spanish Sahara," but I have some other favs as well. I figured 'Dance...' was a good starting point for T. I'll do another FTM request at some point, but I have a couple other ideas first. Oh, btw...I still think FTM was one of the best live show I've seen...& I've seen MANY!!!🤘😎
@@paulstoliker3303 I would put The Wife, The Kids, and the White Picket fence up in the top 3 for me. A Seafarer’s Knot and Tall Tales Taste Like Sour Grapes are my other favorites. Fables From A Mayfly is a criminally underrated album.
Do more FTM. First time I heard them was live. It was an outdoor show that was was working near. I heard this song from two blocks away and had to find out who they were. A month later I drove 150 miles to see a show and FTM was the middle act of 3. I bought every CD and DVD they had on sale. Live the energy and sound we’re just amazing. I miss them.
One of the best live "bar bands" I've ever seen...This band is VERY unique, the other songs are all very different & unique. I meant to mention that you may want to look for the lyrics. I know a couple songs have the lyrics are on screen, but if you're interested, their lyrics are really poetic, imaginative, & impactful. Like I mentioned before, I 'discovered ' this band at a bar in Dallas. I tried to get them on my label, but the boss didn't see them live & didn't really dig it. Turns out I was right, because 4 months later, Serj Tankian saw them & got them signed with Universal for what I heard was a $4 million, 4 album deal. I do know they were touring with Evanescence in Europe, then they were supposed to put out a new album but...I guess they broke up. I've since lost contact with all of them, but I'm sure they'll survive.
They did release another album before disbanding, called Arrows & Anchors. Much darker and heavier in sound and atmosphere, but one of my alltime favorite albums.
@@PinkMaggit I remember when it came out. They had a huge show in Dallas where they unveiled & sold the new album. If only there was a great, full, high rez, live concert on DVD, or even digital. I'd love to see them live again, sooo good live!
@@melvinjansen2338 He was one of the most talented vocalists I've ever seen live. I really thought they'd be around a bit longer. I can see Andrew teaching, though when I knew him he was very...shy? No, more like introspective, quiet even, until he hit the stage. When he went on, he would channel Iggy Pop, & a few other greats. My worry for Andrew was the way he used his instrument. He made some sounds that probably did some damage to him throat. I just hope he's not teaching because he can't sing anymore.
The real question is... What not to Love about Fair to Midland.... I would really, really really love if they someday come to Portugal... If they decide to reunite again.... So unfortunate what happened to them... the debts and the van crash, and many other things as far i know.... I've been listening to them since Fables from a Mayfly album.... God... one of my favorite bands, and i guess i will never see them live in Europe and in my country.... Awesome reaction man. Is good to see people discovering this guys. Hope they see that many people know them and didnt forget. Guess we have to ask Serj Tankian to backup for them again
This is one of my favorite bands of all time! I had the privilege to see them live somewhere around 20 times. Glad to see that they're still finding new people!
The thing that I’ve noticed with the bands that meld genres together is that a lot of the times I like the result even if I don’t like the source material. For example: the disturbed style vocals here.
One of my all time favorite bands been listening to them since I was 14 and got hooked right away. Hate that they never got more popular would of loved to see them perform one day
It seems like most of just came here to see a greatly underrated and unknown band get the recognition they deserve, myself included. All their stuff is killer 🤌
Btw, the way I described FTM in the past is kind of Pink Floyd meets Metallica, but that doesn't even come close. Check out a couple more songs, it's really hard to put a label on them, (I couldn't even get them to sign with one, lol, pun, sorry). I'd really like to hear your attempt to put FTM in a genre, once you've heard some more of course. Ok, moving on now, I promise! Lol...🤪
Well said! Their lyrics are poetic & beautiful, but alot of metaphors, you're right. Still, I think that's a good thing...It gives the song a bit of mystery, or ambiguity, or something like that...But, that's my opinion. My favorite for lyrics is, "A WOLF DESCENDS ON THE SPANISH SAHARA." So impactful, and a great tune too. 😁👍
so think about it...the band name is a goof on a commonly used cliche...and SO many of their songs and lyrics are simply cliches used in ways the originators of said cliches never imagined. it's pretty brilliant, really... and this song is NOT one of my top 20 songs of theirs.
They are one of my favorite musical discoveries of the last Decade. You should check out their tracks Amarillo Sleeps on my Pillow, Coppertank Island, Short Haired Tornado, and Rikki Tikki Tavi, strap in for that last one it gets wild, lol.
@@Beyond_Himself & from other albums (inter.funda.stifle being my favorite): granny niblo, orphan anthem 86, a sailor's knot, say when, quince, and abigail. I still listen to them every single day, even though they haven't played music together since about 2014 (or RECORDED any since 2011). It doesn't get old, & for me, everything gets old pretty fast.
@@mojoriot2293 I know they had a song for Mission Impossible, I think Backwards was the song. They only ever had 1, maybe 2 albums before they all went to do their own thing. Was so sad, they had such a unique sound, jazzy swing mixed in with rock that got pretty heavy at times.
@@anzamoni They had 2 full albums, but also an early demo with a couple somgs that are on the first full lp. I'm not far with the Mission Impossible song, I'll have to look for that. I was pretty sure I've heard all their material, but if there's a track out there I haven't heard, I gotta hear it...like soon! Lol. 😁👍
@@anzamoni ...but yes, it was a sad day when I heard the news...I think they just got burned out. Touring, & writing, & travel, etc...it takes a huge toll on sanity, friendships, & life in general. I like to think they'll get back together some day, even just for one show...I'd be there!
I feel like this song is the modern day Bohemian Rhapsody. Baffling, multifaceted to the point of identity confusion, entirely unpredictable, and ingenious. Lyrically brilliant. Great thing to react to, a very obscure choice to most ..
The lyrics makes no sense on the surface, but after letting the mind process it for a while, it becomes accurate poetry. Yah, accurate poetry. I said it. Darroh nails the lyrical arts
2 years later: Try some Eluveitie Inis Mona is my fav but helvetios is a good album. My only warning is they are new wave of folk metal band. Not sure if you vibe with it or not.
More of this! Fair to Midland is such an underrated band and they only have a couple albums. Honestly IMO they don’t have a bad song. Excited to see them get some more exposure!
