Beautiful boots! Nothing is better than a service boot! (Cap toe or not) I’m super excited for these. They seem like a fantastic deal.

Excellent review! You provide the perfect combination of commentary on all your reviews to help the watcher understand the history of the company, what to look for in a quality boot, the components in the boots, quality of craftsmanship, profile and fit, etc. After watching one of your reviews, I feel like I've learned all the important details needed. Thank you!

I have an exact pair of GS boots. The color is just brilliant and it matches my Khaki and blue jeans very well. Thank you for this wonderful vid. After viewing your video, I took out my diesel tan essex boots and looked at them closely then I found out I loved them even more.

“I’m not going to enter into a political debate here but I will create a straw man and destroy it” Teik, I love your reviews and I have a strong feeling that you’re a really good guy but please. I would skip the overblown China controversy (especially if you’re not going to cover the real reasons why you would be less inclined to buy from China) and just talk about the merits of the boots, 90% of us are here because we know about Grantstone and don’t care that they’re made in China, we just want your valued opinion. I don’t mean any disrespect, please keep up the great work.

Great review. I think this is the next Grant Stone pair that I want (over the Saddle Tan pair). I live where we deal with enough snow and wet conditions that the leather sole on the Saddle Tan concerns me. I'm looking forward to your updated review.

great review. I have the exact same boot with the same leather. The Grant Stone Diesel boot feels much heavier with a wider heel that feels more clunky than a similar Alden indy and similar AE Higgins Mill. Best production quality but not comfortable for actual walking all day for me. I would much rather wear a Higgins Mill or Indy when I travel and have to walk all day. Enjoy your boots.

Agreed on Grant Stone. Love their boots but I have sold almost all of mine. Now, the Brass Boot might just change my mind as it has a somewhat snug heel and a very roomy toebox.
@luisfeliciano6280
@luisfeliciano6280 2 года назад
I have the opposite experience. The heel of the Indy with a 360 welt I find it too clunky and with a 270, too restrictive. Very fine line for my feet which is, of course, very subjective and is different for every individual. I can wear my GS for 15+ hours with no problems. Really a great boot.
@olegkaderly5638
@olegkaderly5638 Год назад
Eh. Alden Indy doesn’t even hold candle to Grant Stone quality. It’s all marketing and far, far inferior materials used in Indy boot construction, which yield a disappointing final product, which does not warrant anywhere near $600+ price tag. Grant Stone builds much higher quality footwear at a much more reasonable price point.

I have a couple of Grant Stone boots, a Diesel boot and an Edward boot, both in Chromexcel. Though I like them and agree they are very well made by the the time I get shipping charges plus UK VAT and import duties plus the extras that UPS seem to charge, my most recent purchase of the Edward boots worked out at $590 instead of the original $370. That puts them up against brands such as Crockett and Jones and Trickers and then they become a more difficult value case. Add in that they do not do half sizes between US 13 and 12 which means I have to have them a little larger than ideal and they are less appealing. If CXL boots, particularly burgundy CXL , of similar quality were easily available from European manufacturers I would have given them a miss.
@Bootlosophy
@Bootlosophy 2 года назад
It’s hard to justify importing at a total of $590
@SM-xt5gl
@SM-xt5gl 2 года назад
That’s the trouble if your not in the US . UPS has horrible up charges on customs / import taxes that they have their brokers bill out . Wonder if GS will if you ask ship through a diff courier or even USPS but with tracking ? I got my RM Williams comfort craftsmans years ago from Australia . My country currency and the Aus $ were very close . Went to a Blundstone shop that carried RMs , made sure the right size and the Aus company shipped them as “ size exchange “ . So they sailed through customs with no duties added . Doubt that would fly these days .
@UnknownUser-rb9pd
@UnknownUser-rb9pd 2 года назад
@@SM-xt5gl According to UPS they were charging around $15 handling fee yet they managed to charge me the boot cost plus $55 postage PLUS 35% of the combined boot and postage cost. According to the UK Gov website the absolute most that boots should get charged is 20% VAT plus 8% import duties and I'm not sure the 8% import duties apply in this case. I have bought Thursday boots from US for example and get 20% VAT only applied (plus free postage). I am uncomfortable asking companies to lie on customs forms and they have far more to lose than me if they do get caught. I may buy a GS boot again if there is something that I really, really want but I'm sure my life won't be appreciably affected if I can't buy GS, and EU brands like Carmina mostly seem to offer VAT inclusive prices which are comparable with the Euro prices (so no extra duty or handling charges) .

@@howyduinyall7653 Thanks but only if you're a G width. Unfortunately, for some reason, all the Loake Chromexcel boots are wide widths. I do have burgundy Chromexcel boots from Thursday and from NPS Solovair and other colours from Thursday and Cheaney so, along with my two Grant Stones I have scratched my itch.

Just watched Rose Anvil do his thing and he says Grant Stones are a well built shoe and this made in China doesn't mean anything when it comes the build of Grant Stones. I've just started getting into boots got a pair of moc toes from Thorogood and rate them. Been looking for places to try and buy boots here in Perth, Australia. But see there's no Grant Stone at all here.

How would you compare this boot to the Saddle Tan Veg? It seems like it would be a similar but lighter version of that boot.
@Bootlosophy
@Bootlosophy 2 года назад
It is lighter because of the rubber sole but the leather is very different and will patina very different. Essex has a more supple structure because of the oils and waxed in the tannage
@aradoran
@aradoran 2 года назад
@@Bootlosophy Okay thanks Teik. Yes I was mainly interested in the difference in the two leathers. The saddle tan seems more orange and the Essex looks very light by the pictures. It’s hard to understand how they will patina differently without having the experience or seeing it in person. Not to give out any spoilers but you didn’t happen to pick up the Parkhurst Henna Veg Re-tan did you? I’m curious what that leather looks like in person

I was not expecting a reply! Haha, I'm looking forward to your video. I'm currently waiting on a pair of new Grant Stone Brass Boots in the same veg tan Essex leather from ebay (300€!). I was wondering if you have any advice in terms of initial leather treatment or conditioning from the start? Apparently Bicks 4 doesn't darken the leather but seems controversial due to the silicone content somehow? Thanks!! Edit: Just rewatched the section about venetian shoe creme. I'll do some additional research but if you have any feedback on vsc, Saphir or Bicks I'd be grateful! If you still think it's best to leave it as is from factory and only worry about it later on after 3-6 months, I'll listen and do just that. :)
