Designer Jackie Glass transformed a dated bungalow into a bright and open-concept space with a clean-lined aesthetic. (And large windows throughout that give the home a stunning treehouse effect!) The house welcomes with stunning porcelain tile in the entryway, which is also used on the fireplace surround in the sunken dining room. The kitchen is the hub of the home, boasting two islands, a breakfast nook and an intimate seating area. The garage was turned into a serene master bedroom with a spa-like ensuite. Jackie also installed a walk-in pantry and a laundry room with a dog shower.

The before sun room was so beautiful, cozy and warm with plants 2:24 And the before exterior too. Now it’s just plain white.

Oh man I loved the look of the original so much... I loved that solidly mid-century modern look combined with her clean-cut modern style. All that stone and wood was so warm and chic. Sigh...

The before pics are stunning. . . stone exterior, the wood clad walls and ceiling, and skylights. Their after pics are very pretty but it makes me sad to know that such a great mid century home has been gutted beyond the point of recognition.

Stripped of all the personality and character. This could be any house now. Very sterile in my opinion. Sad they took out that marble fireplace and wood in the sunroom.

i agree. the unique characteristic of the house are all gone. all white is okay but i prefer the mid century modern vibe.

I am so glad I’m not the only one who thinks this. I was feeling a little guilty for judging her. I’m just one of those that if you want that clean, open “new modern” look then buy or build a newer house. Don’t go destroying an older home from a particular period. Her finished product was beautiful but she had to ruin a beautiful, classic MCM home to achieve it.

Ok I remember her now. She did a video of her trailer that they were living in while working on their house. Their trailer was beautiful. The house is beautiful too.

I agree with you! All Canadian designs here are all white. They destroyed the mid century home. Too bad!

No sensitivity to the beautiful details that made this a mid century gem. The stone work was removed along with all the character and soul. I was so excited to see the before and heartbroken to see the after.

The before fireplace was far better than the current one, it looks so generic or unfinished in this space! Also the great room felt a bit crowded with so much furniture, but overall a gorgeous home with a beautiful natural landscape.

Looking at the before photos I noticed there were many original features in excellent condition. I wish someone who understood and appreciated MCM aesthetic had restored this wonderful home to it's original style. This remodel has no character. It's cold and austere. What a shame.

colibriverde You're absolutely right. It's frustrating when people gut MCM homes and renovate them in ways that aren't appropriate for the style. This is a perfect example of this.

I don’t think MCM pioneer architects wanted the style to become a museum, they wanted it to be practical and fit the needs of the inhabitants and the times. I think they’d love that these homes are being updated with new materials and design ideas

The before exterior was beautiful. You should have updated the interior only. The new exterior is out of place with the environment.

Am I crazy or is this just straight up modern with hints of contemporary? I don't see anything mid-century about this house. Dear Lord, even the authentic stone exterior was plastered over. Basically they took a beautiful Mid-century modern house and removed everything mid-century about it!

Yes :( I hate when they do it. Just buy a new, modern house, don't destroy something authentic. Somebody would've appreciated that mid-century modern house. Sure it needed a few updates but there is nothing left of the original style now.

That Stone Cladding Exterior was Classy & full of character & now just another white one with zero character... Inside- it's all white, hints of black & full of glass the end. It's like killing history, this renovation made me sad...

The implementation of floor-to-ceiling windows was a great touch, especially because I'm assuming one of the objectives was to brighten up the space. Great renovation!

Honestly, I'd like the modern design a lot better if I didn't know that they stripped a mid-century to get it. That just sticks in my craw. This shouldn't be called mid-century design. It's just modern now.

Stunning Reno!!! To the nasty people wishing the house had stayed the same, I’d say they didn’t read the headline. This is a mid-century home which has been “Reno’d” beautifully. The designer never said she liked the dark and dated mid-century look of the place. You must be friends of the original owners, methinks.

The Kitchen actually has - what I refer to as "Lobby Effect" and it is a very Current Era Trademark, our Stamp of this era's Design with the Starbuck's and a Chicago/New York Hotel Bar - blend and it works so well for our Lifestyles in our 20's statement. A hundred years ago - 1919-1920 - the Architecture was Art Deco, now "We have our 2020's Statement"! Well done -

When I first saw the all glass walls, I was thinking where are you going to hang you art and then you said "who needs pictures when you have a view like this" I totally agree with you. You have done an amazing job and your house looks very beautiful. I personally would have used more colours in the bedrooms like the the orange accent of the chairs in your office, but all in all, it looks amazing. Kindly share the name of the blue paint in the laundry/dog shower area.

I wondered what her house was going to be like after watching the trailer reno video. This is AWESOME. Great space planning for the reno. It looks and must feel huge! Never liked bungalows but they do seem to reno well to today's modern, open-plan living.
