When vac'ing drywall dust i highly recommend putting a bag in the shop vac. I started doing this and it dramatically reduces filter clogging meaning the vac maintains suction for much long. I also feel like it does a better job keeping dust inside rather than possibly blowing some back out.

Just a little tip for the next time you go out to view the northern lights or a meteor shower. You need to find your viewing spot about a half hour before you want to view and just sit in the darkness without any artificial lights or screens. This will allow your eyes to dark adapt.

Someone else may have already made this comment, but since I haven't read through any of the previous 384 comments, here goes. A trick to filling screw holes easier, faster, & with much less sanding is to put a dab of mud on a corner of a 6" trowel & swiping across 4' sections of screws @ one time rather than filling each one separately. It takes about 1/4 the time & you don't have a splotch of mud around each screw dimple to sand off. Simply swipe down the middle of a row of screws, then swipe any extra mud from both edges. I can normally get the 3-4 layers of mud it takes to completely fill the screw dimples without ever having to sand between layers. Oh, one more thing. ALWAYS use vacuum bags in your shop vacs, whether it's in your drywall sanding vac or your standard shop vac. As long as you're using them on dry products, you'll never have to replace a filter again or need to clean out the tub & you'll have very little dust while using it or when dumping the vac into the trash.

If I haven't said it before I want to say it now, Courtney is the best taper and painter I have seen on any RU-vid video. And I have watched a lot of them. I have done a fair amount of taping and have commented on many videos to try to provide helpful hints at how to do it better. However I do not see anything Courtney could do to improve her job as she is spot on with every step of the process. She could be the gold standard in how to do drywall finishing.

A couple of quick tricks from a 18 year General Contractor; use your hand saw for long cuts like that, that you used your plunge cut multitool for. Less noise and is faster. Two, on that long 5" strip you could have not cut off the 1/2" edge and cut a 4 1/2 piece and put it above the other piece as it was going to get corner treatment anyway so it didn't matter which piece overlapped which.

I always transfer paint (if I intend to store it long term) in 1 gallon milk jugs AND I store the jug upside down so the solvent can not evaporate very well (if at all) Same goes for paint cans. If the seal between lid and can is good store the can upside down...

Next time, if there is one... and you need to go to town to get trim, either buy a board that you'll need in the future, or, take a piece of pipe, or a board of course, and tape the trim to the board or pipe, to keep it rigid enough to not break. Or, Riley in all your skills at fabricating, build you an adjustable "T" mount that will slide into the receiver hitch, that will adjust up and down, and away from the truck, to haul such items. I have not seen one that would do all this, but have seen a variety of them. Also, something I really liked, it a guy built one and mounted a st of LED brake.tail lights on it, below(so as to not get in the way of what you are carrying, so it worked not only in place of a red flag thing, but also worked REALLY well at night. Trim, add wood(or what you are using), till it looks good! Said an old carpenter friend of mine!

The trick to doing drywall corners is to put plenty if compound in the corners to set the folded paper tape in, remove all excess. Second, and subsequent coats only apply only one side of the corner at a time, let it dry before doing the other side of the corner. This applies to both horizontal, and vertical. Courtney, you do a very good job at taping. After taping for over 40 years I only sand twice. I apply three level coats, then sand all. Prime the walls, touch up compound holidays then sand the entire wall to prime again.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, ideas and videos. Very interesting and entertaining build. Waiting to see if you use curtains on the windows or splurge and get LCD switchable film for the windows. Wishing you and your family the best. If your doing much drywall sanding you may also consider buy a water filled dust trap for your vacuum line. They sell kits but you could easily put one together with a few scraps you come across. It’s basically a bucket with a matching lid and a section on hose and fittings that allow you to put it in between the vacuum and the hose. The inlet fitting accepts the vacuum line on the outside and extends down into the bucket below about 1/2 to 3/4 of the way into the bucket. A good option would be a extension hose cut in half and glued into two holes in the lid. Filling the bucket with water above the extension into the bucket causes the air to be bubbled thru the water collecting all the drywall dust. The only think that ends up in the shop vacuum is at most a few drops of water. The mud in the collection bucket is very much like the stuff before you put it on the wall. Pondered trying to reuse it but since I had plenty of mud I didn’t risk it. 😂

Another tip an 82 year old mud taper taught me ,45 years ago is to Take the paper and hold it up where you’re gonna put it like ceiling to floor tear it off you could do as many as you need and then put in a 5 gallon bucket about three-quarter full of water, and as you pull them out with one hand, put two fingers on the paper, one on each side and pull the paper through your fingers to get the excess water off and then put it on the wet mud that you pre-applied to the seam, and then Run your 6 inch knife lightly over the paper and down and then apply mud and then take your 12 inch knife and finish it off and you’re done with that seam the same with corners same with horizontal or wherever paper tape goes. It is a better job and never ever peels away your way will work probably fine but the word is probably 95% of the time but my way works 100% of the time next time you mud and tape you might want to try it thanks bye-bye

To accommodate hand rails you may need in the future you might consider one of 2 options 1. replace the 2x4 stud wall in the bathroom with 4x4s or cover the walls in 1in plywood. The screws need some meat to grab to hold safely. Also a Fresh air exchanger and a dehumidifier to control both indoor pollution and excess moisture. your metal box does not have does not allow for whole house fresh air exchanges. You might want to go to Schwitzer for an unobstructed view of the northern shy.
