I drove an old International 1900 for 10 years of heavy hard work and a lot of miles. That 466 never let me down started up every time it has to be one of the best truck engines ever made 👍
That coolant looks like a green and red mix. That is what I just flushed out of the ambulance.. Turn the handle on the embrace clockwise to tighten it up. Hard to not love that dump truck. It has all the right pieces of the puzzle to be a good reliable truck for a long time.
Yeah it's getting flushed for sure. The handle was all the way tight unfortunately so hopefully there is an adjustment on the other end or I'll have to check the shoes.
I like your videos. More down to earth than some others i have watched. I like how you tell the haters to piss off with out saying piss off. Keep it up.
Really nice video, I really like your channel. It was really good to see your truck put back to doing what it was designed to do. Looking forward to seeing more.
Man that is awesome to hear that the international did well on its first job. Man when I started driving when I graduated from high school that was the first job I was doing. I used to haul gravel to construction sites. I was born and raised around trucks. I was driving a tractor-trailer at the age of 12. Awesome video man you take it easy and have a good weekend.
Great video Mike! 🙂👍 The 'ole truck definitely comes in handy. I applaud you showing the prices for parts and maintenance. Not too many channels do sadly. Like you mentioned, it gives people a good idea on what things cost to maintain. That binder is a keeper for sure 🔧
Use a 1972 Hyster forklift at work with a Detroit diesel. Had the engine rebuilt about 10 years ago. It has used oil the 20+ years we've had it. Old and slow, but always ready to go! Thanks for the info and prices/ location of parts. Helps me all the time.
When I was a fire fighter we had a 4x4 brush rig that had the same style cab. They where tanks. Auto tranys where the only thing that sucked on those. Would only go 50 down hill but would carry 500gal of water and 4 to 6 crew. Had jump seats on the back of the fire body fun truck. I wanted to get one and take the box off and make a 4x4 dump or flat bed
My dash cluster had a ground issue and none of the gauges would work. Took the cluster out and tightened the connectors on all the pins. Now everything works. You have a cool little dump truck there.
I know this video is a little older, but I just added a inter S1900 DT466 to my small property maintenance business fleet here in AZ. I love it, it's an 86, with air brakes, but Armstrong steering. I'm looking Around for A used power steer set up for it. Going to mod my tail gate to a two way gate with air release on the locks. Enjoyed your video. Cheers Rusty
I like this. Guys like us might not have the best newest equipment. But with a little maintenance and check ups you can keep em running good and reliably.
Just a tip, get you a 3 jaw oil filter wrench, I did pms on trucks all the time and it's what I use. It always worked for me, makes getting those filters off real easy
Those rat poop looking things are likely BarsLeak. It works, might have had a leak, some old timers add it just in case..hopefully it didn't plug your heater core. I have a flatbed S1954, shortening it up to 14 feet, adding a gooseneck plate. Love your channel! Keep on, keeping on.
Just found the vid, so I am late to the party. I have an 87 s1700 dump with the DT360 in it. You may have found out by now, but those beads rattling around in the coolant filter are sacrificial chemicals to help your cylinder walls from cavitating. Essentially they protect the pitting & erosion of the block, they are good to be in there!!!
I was surprised it has Juice Brakes. We got 2 new trucks in the end of 81, both Plow/Sander, and the Bitch tank for doing Asphalt work. Both Auto Trans, DT466. Either 1800 or 1800, don`t remember. had them almost 15 years. last truck we had I drove mostly was a 95 DT 466, 5-spd with 2 spd air shift. It was also a Plow Sander with Bitch tank. All 3 of these trucks had Air Brakes. Had 150K miles on when I retired. It was all mechanical. It was the last year before they put the computer on them. Other crew got a 96 with the computer control etc... didn`t like it at all. The 466 in the 95 never gave us any problems. I think it got 7 MPG being a Diesel.
As long as you’ve got a pull-out cable or some type of device hooked up to the hoist pump you’re fine hopping out watching it dump, that trucks short and low enough as long as you’re on level ground it’s not going to upset even if the load sticks.
Probably an SCA dosing coolant filter. They have different levels depending on what your coolant needs. You can determine via test strips. New coolant will be precharged. Imagine this era runs something similar to fleet charge pre charged coolant.
Ha ha , we low bed ,nice I’m live a dream too , and I’m looking for all the things your buying too, nice I’m looking for a sliding tandems and tilt bed , two winch’s one on the top deck and one on the lower deck, lol, nice way to go thanks BigAl California.
Very nice! I’m new to big trucks! I appreciate you showing the prices. But for me in rural Alaska! I’ll Add another 200 bucks and change. hazmat and shipping always screws ya out here with price of shipping and handling.
Hey brother love the videos you should put an air horn on it and keep the great content coming and when you do another video on the freightliner cabover can you please honk the air horn
@@NOT_FOR_HIRE there a high flow filter and well worth having them ! Oh there is a small shut-off valve on the side the mount we just used a cresant wrench to turn it 1/4th a turn to turn flow off !
So turn that little knob on the end of the Ebrake in to the right and that will tighten the brake shoes on the EBrake, lol, nice thanks BigAl California.
I haven't seen anyone mention this so I guess I will. The little beads in the coolant filter are the way to get a special compound into the coolant called SCA. Like I saw someone mention those engines have cavitation issues and the SCA in the coolant prevents that from happening. and the way the way international did it was they had those filters with the additive in them already. So normally you want to change your coolant when you change your filter as well so you put in standard coolant then the filter adds the SCA. You can get coolant with that in it already but in the case of this truck its in the filter. So what you did just changing the filter shouldn't hurt but ideally you'd change the coolant too. So if you do go back and do that I'd suggest changing the filter again to be sure the additive gets in the new coolant.
Thank you for clearing that up. I'm going to flush the system and change the filter. If I wasn't in a hurry I would have done that in the first place. I will get some additive also. I appreciate the information! Thanks for watching!
The "shakey" stuff in the filter is the SCA pellets -- those chunks in the coolant should have got filtered out -- were both valves on the coolant filter turned on? Hard to say how many times I have seen one of the valves turned off, filter can't do it's job like that
I’ve read those dash gauge panels are notorious for not working Some people have reportedly fixed them by re soldering the pin connections on the back side.
But better keep the fuel filters changed , I see you have a Bosch rotary 100 pump , and that thing is real expensive to change, or at least out here n California is is, minor when out and it was priced so high that I scraped my 1983 IHC DT 466 ,5 and a working 2 speed, if you are not sure f where your local Diesel pump stationgets there fuel ⛽️ and fuel if they are filtered or not on a regular basis, Then you need to change your fuel filters frequently , and that might save you the head ack of the pump going out ( fuel pump) lol, nice 👍 thanks BigAl California.
Friend, I'm not trying be be rude, but you may want to do a volume check on that box... By eye those are about 8 yard loads not 10's.. I am willing to admit to being off if the camera is wonkey, but that box looks to be a 7'x10'x3' which at water level comes out to 7.7yds. By the time you shovel that flat I bet you'd find it was about water level, maybe just over.. Are my eye measurements off? Nice truck though! I'm watching because I just picked up a 1724 last week for the whopping price of "Please come get it out of my yard" Mine needs some fixing here and there, and the poor little 345 gasser will be an over worked little pig, but for free, I can put a few coins in it to make something of it.
Oil changes are the life of an engine. The DT466 is a tough engine. Oil and filter costs are far less than a new engine. Get old Green roadworthy and find you a dump trailer then you can haul with the big boys.
Double frame ? or are you meaning the dump body frame on top of the truck frame, double frame is a smaller frame rail installed into the inside of the frame rails
These engines are very easy to work on. But since you are asking that question, I wouldn’t suggest you take on a project like that by yourself unless you do thorough research. If you live near eastern Ky bring it to me and I’ll work on it for you 😂
Like the old truck's you keep on the road just check the coolant it should be bright green or bright pink not a brown green color check which one is rite for your motor
I'm not positive but it looks like the front spring has a Triangle Springs sticker on it. Those are made in Dubois, Pa. Who knows maybe I made it years ago when I worked there.
First gear is so low you really don’t need a two speed rear although there definitely fun to drive and when you need a lower gear just push down on the button and hit the gas and your in a lower gear where a five speed straight transmission you have to downshift.
I love a two-speed, too bad they don't put them on trucks nowadays. Dumpy is definitely a good find and with a little more work, she'll run better than a new one!
You should throw some paint on those doors. Did you write the change date on the filters, just being nosy. Good thing you found that missing pin. Do you have to put your DOT number and name on doors or side in your state ????? Ya might wipe that dash down and put some type of treatment on it to slow the cracking. That interior could use some cleaning, it's hard to read your gauges sometimes, whoaaaaaaaaa LOL, just trying to give you some video...............
Forgot to say those engines can suffer from electrolosis (probably misspelled it) that eats away at your liners. Make sure all your grounds are good. Especially the engine to chassis.
I have commercial insurance on everything it's actually cheaper. I think it only 800 a year for that truck. I have alot of trucks though so it's cheaper per vehicle.
@@NOT_FOR_HIRE Thanks for the info. I would have guessed personal use would be much cheaper. I would like to buy a dump but the prices of beat into the ground one tons and 450s are ridiculous. Maybe stepping up to a bigger truck like yours is the way to go. I just dont know if my tractor bucket could reach high enough to load it.
