This book of short stories offered many insights into various Indian customs. Poignant and enthralling.A wonderful read! Thank you.

Trust Pakistani viewers to look at negative perspectives. Jhumpa is a descendent from parents who are from Calcutta and is very nostalgic about her Indian past which she visited numerous times . She translated stories from Bengali too. Let's learn to believe and trust the other's ability to translate. She is an honest, dedicated writer.

Kipling wrote in India, and I wondered whether he struggled with identity issues. How about the English? The lived in India, and even though they ruled it, they never belonged there.

I find her fascination with writing in Italian difficult to understand. I remember reading her book in Italian , one page the story in Italian, and on the opposite page, it's translation into English. She wrote the Italian, but I am not sure if she herself translated it too

Asad Siddiqi@ Well it seems to my actually that she was very clear on that point. The italian culture is the most ancient and the most complex one of the western world. Considering that she was raised in a western country, why is it so strange for you that she is fascinated by it? :-)

@@t.f.5265 I would say the most ancient culture of the western world was and is the Greek one.
