Interslavic - a common language for all Slavs and a gateway to learning Slavic languages? Medžuslovjansky - spolny jezyk dlja vsih Slovjanov i vrata k učenju slovjanskyh jezykov?
Interslavic is a recently developed constructed language with the goal that everybody who can understand any Slavic real language can also understand this artificial language without ever having learnt it! It is a simplified and “unified” Slavic language (“in the middle of all existing Slavic languages”), which is super easy to learn for native speakers of any Slavic language and which could also be an easy to learn (first) Slavic language for non-Slavs with the advantage that they can immediately communicate with all Slavs.
This is not a language course in Interslavic, rather I want to present to you the history, the concept and the structure of this language and we will discuss if or how Interslavic can actually live up to its goals and potentials. Basic knowledge of any Slavic language is helpful but not required.
Michael Patscheke, *1967, is a language enthusiast from Germany. His main interest is comparative grammar and etymology. He started learning mainly Germanic and Romance languages as a hobby as a high school student and has been fascinated by the links between languages ever since. Apart from German, he is fluent in English, French, Spanish and Italian and has a basic knowledge in several other languages - especially when it comes to the structure and grammar. When starting his first Slavic language he came across Interslavic…
This video was recorded at the Polyglot Gathering 2022 (www.polyglotgathering.com).

That would usher in a unified Slavic State, which NATO and the west would not approve of.

Unfortunately, the learning resources are extremely slim to learn Interslavic. The only ones available for English is an introductory about 166 pages. Other books are from other previous work, Neoslavonic and Novoslovnica. Which are not Interslavic, but works that contributed to making Interslavic.

I would love to study an inter-romance language, for Spanish, Italian and Romanian. But Interslavic works, I understand it, although I have never studied it.

@@dmitryche8905 The inter-Romance like Inter-Slavic is called Romance Neolatino. Likewise also extremely slim on resources. I know only of two PDF books (A grammar book and dictionary) from their website, you can download for free. It is only in Neolatino. No audio resources at all. I tried to improvise by using a text to speech using the Italian audio. Still though it isn't an actual learning book for a particular language base.

@@dmitryche8905 Not the same thing and the purpose for Latine sine Flexione is to be an international auxiliary language. Not an Inter / Pan- Romance. The actual Romance version of Interslavic, is Roman Neolatino.

I've come to this talk as an English speaker wanting to learn Interslavic. The talk was generally good and informative, the one thing I'd disagree on is the usefulness of Slovianto, I think it could be a lot more useful to non Slavic speakers than Michael does. I'm interested in conlangs as well as learning natural languages so the artificiality of Slovianto is not an issue for me.

In Slavic languages the case system is very important. you need to coordinate words according to cases, genders and tenses etc

@@dmitryche8905 Yes, that's natural Slavic languages, and Interslavic. There's no reason there can't be an auxiliary Slavic language that gets rid of cases though - Bulgarian does it after all.

I am from Bulgaria and almost got tired of hearing: “oh Bulgarians struggle to understand Interslavic!” I heard a similar opinion from a Russian woman talking on Russian National television about interslavic. Let me reassure you that as a Bulgarian I have no problem understanding this new language! It seems like a project that gets my thumbs up! One recommendation : green colour should be present on that flag if we are talking about acceptance and inclusion! Green is present in Belarusian and Bulgarian flags!! Please correct this!

As I wrote not once it is not need in any additional artificial language! Restoration of the common ancestor of all Slavic languages could be a huge plus! I speak fluent Ukrainian, Polish, dumn russian and more opr less understand most of the Slavic languages!

Would you like to see my research? I'm making my own version of East Slavic based on Russian and Ukrainian. I want to restore the old words but I want to use future grammar.

@@Adam-jr4lx So called "Russian" was invented by Croatian linguist Yuri Kadjanich in early XVII century. He created his artificial language on the basis of Solunian dialect of Old Bulgarian language (aka Old Church Slavonic) in order to replace the vast majority of the Finnic and Ugrian dialects wich were the most vernacular tongs on the Moscovian lands with the very low degree of the mutual intelligibility. Kadjanich used Rutenian and Old Ukrainian grammar (grammatics of Melenty Smotricky) in order to make Old Church Slavonic less complicated and more useful for everyday usage. No need to any additinal artificial linguistic inventure at this time! Слава Україні!
