Been a fan since I was six in 1971. 57 now and actually playing Ventura Highway on my old guild dreadnought today. As a kid in the 70’s America and the Eagles inspired me to learn how to play guitar. Sure wish Dan had not died in 2011. Dewey & Gerry still sound great 50 years on🇺🇸
Dewey and Gerry were really, really cute guys when they were young but they are absolutely gorgeous now (2020), especially Dewey. They have gotten better looking as they aged. I am 70 years old and still love and listen to America.

Sadly, ten years ago, we lost Dan Peek. He died July 24, 2011. I'm so glad that several years ago, he surrendered his life to Jesus Christ. As fellow believers, we'll see him again in heaven!
@@xrxs1020 Dan wrote a book back in the early 2000s which you can still find on Amazon. His poison was alcohol and any drug he get his hands on. Dan said he didn't discriminate when it came to his drug use.
What a great interview. All three of them were very relaxed and I got to hear Dan speak for the very first time. What a mellow, soft spoken dude. I never knew. Subtle things like the way Gerry sort of speaks out of the side of his mouth and Dewey being so down to earth. Makes me love them so much more. I knew there was a reason why I liked their music for over fifty years. Yes, fifty years and I have never gotten tired of Ventura Highway or Today’s The Day. Mind blowing, isn’t it?
Great interview? The guy conducting it is horrible. He admits he is unprepared and will "wing it." It's not like he bumped into them, he had to board a plane so this hardly seems sponatneous. Dumb questions and you can tell they think he is a dolt. Waste of time.
When I think of my life in the 70’s.....this band comes to mind first. With each song brings so many wonderful memories from that era. Thank you Gerry, Dan and Dewey.
I still play their songs on my guitar till today, their music is still very strong and much appreciated by different age groups. A Classic Band!!! 🎶🎸🎶🎸🎶🎸🎶

Dan's my favorite too. Each of them wrote absolutely excellent music, but something about Dan's is more thought-provoking. There's an air of subtle melancholy and soul-searching that I find very appealing. Many musicians of that era wrote songs with much self-indulgent navel gazing, but Dan feels genuine and unassuming. I think his lack of fame today speaks to that. And I do mean that not as an insult to him, but as high praise.
I can only guess that this video (most of it) was done shortly after the release of Hearts, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hearts_(America_album) and near the end of that tour. I recall this was around the time Dan Peek was seriously contemplating leaving the band. He was so eager to get back to "White Rose" in Malibu. It was unfortunate Dan had such a substance abuse problem, and that couldn't have helped with the animosity they were feeling toward each other, even during this video shoot. At one point, I notice Gerry does the eye roll towards Dan, I believe. Great video, good to see this!
These were just ordinary musicians who somehow made epic music when they played together. They made frequent mistakes when they played live but I do not care at all. They are still one of my favorite bands of all time.
Looking at the pictures on the walls of the plane in the background it could be maybe the year 1975 or 1976 perhaps when they did this this particular interview
They do seem like very nice young men! A lot more innocence back then than the young people now days. 👍❤️ That was meant as a compliment. I just think our young people in 2021/22 have been robbed of much of their childhood & innocence. The world is worse than it ever has been & even small children are introduced to sex & violence & even cursing is heard early. Oh well, a talk for another time. Its jst that we can look bk & almost watch it being stolen in mid-air!! Even though technology has brot the world together & made the world much smaller, we can see that a lot of the results of that is not good. I for one, wld love to go back to some of the simplicity of the days before computers. We Truly have lost much more than we think we have & in my own opinion is that the LOSSES far outweighs the gains. Sad, sad for us all. 😢
It's kind of Funny that Many of the Early 70's Musicians were somehow Related to the,...."Military Industrial Complex," or, they were from Rich Backgrounds!
These guys were so young but you can sense the liberalism coming thru that new generation even bk then... sad. I love their music & love Sis Golden Hair & a cpl others. Just sad in many ways.
