(Also check out my music video: "Cost of Doin' Business" • FIFTH - Cost of Doin' ... )
In this video, I speak with "Jason", a non-witness man who is married to and raising a child with an active Jehovah's Witness. "Jason" describes how he found out about his wife's involvement with the group, his efforts to understand their theology, and his fight to get his young daughter to think for herself.

Excellent interview. This "worldly" husband is so intelligent. I'm really impressed about the smart approach he took towards making sure his daughter did not get indoctrinated which leads to early baptism

"Worldly" husband, you are doing the right thing with your daughter by keeping close. That's a great approach you took, that's perfect, up front with issues and in front of your whole family, as opposed to the secrecy of WT. Wow, you stressed to your daughter to be honest. That is a precious gift you gave your daughter. Well done "worldly" husband !!! Challenge your wife about her honesty, is she honest ? Discuss honesty and her religion with her. She knows how much lying the elders do.

I loved this interview but I can't say I have a lot of love for "Jason's" wife. She appears to be a weak person who doesn't really have faith. She just follows the cult when she feels like it, and tries to force others to do the same. She wouldn't allow their daughter to celebrate birthdays, yet forced her to go meetings. Instead of defending her faith, she avoids all scriptural discussions because deep down, she must know that it makes no sense. "Jason" is clearly an extremely patient and logical man. He could see through the nonsense of JW bible studies and how they don't care about your answers to the questions, but just want you to regurgitate it from the paragraphs. I'm so glad too that he woke up his daughter in such a clever, reasonable way. I do hope his wife wakes up too.

I really enjoy this interview, he is a very great father and a great person, my son just stop going to the meeting I don't know what happened but my husband still loyal to that cult when I tried to talk to him he just listen with sometimes no comment, I think it's very important for anybody to do their own research to detect any false information given by anyone specially the witnesses.

Exceptionally good interview, very well done, and some very positive insight for all, but mostly for those who find themselves married to an active JW. This dad has an uncommonly intelligent head on his shoulders and a lot of insight and common sense that's making a meaningful difference for his daughter. I'm pulling for the wife to wake up and realize what a treasure she has in him. *crossed fingers* & Thank you Fifth.

LOVE THIS VIDEO FIFTH. An amazing interview. A brilliant Father. I can't believe they are still married. This guy is a gem. If they divorce, he risks losing his daughter to Jehovah.Org. As long as he keeps her from getting baptized. Home run.

Apt215 Melissa Brown Yes I agree, he's an amazing father. Although, based on the answers he had given I can tell that he still love his wife. And his wife may not tell him that she is a JW in the beginning because she was not sure how to explain the religion that she was taught to be the "truth" to her boyfriend, that's why she kept on pushing him to the elders. It is very possible that they love each other very much and the wife is fighting over her love to her husband and the brainwashing given in the meeting. There are so many scenarios and let's not assume that the guy is stuck in an unhappy marriage. My dad is a muslim who married my mom who is a baptist witness, and their relationship works (and still very intimate with each other, still hug, kiss, going on trips together, etc). It is very possible to hold different ideological mindset and focus a relationship based on intimacy and other aspect of life, that divorce is not even attempted.

This is for everyone married to a JW. Do not give up! I have been married to a jw for 11 years and he just woke up a month ago. I don't think it was anything in particular I said, but I would bring up the ARC and the horrible policies about child abuse. Over the years I tried debating doctrine, never went anywhere. In the end it was the way they treated people, and the harmful policies that woke him up. Just never give up.

So glad for you...yes..they treat people badly...I was a witness and left many years ago...AFTER I left...decided I didn’t believe it...they disfellowshipped me...I went back to my hometown..after being away for decades..to the funeral of one of my sweet little uncles, who was an elder, I am now close to 70, and yet, some of the kids in the family who are still in this cult..were rude and disrespectful to me...an older lady...that they really don’t even know...to me that spoke volumes...I’m just thankful that my kids and grandkids didn’t get caught up in it...I was determined that they would not be subjected to it all the time..my ex husband is still very involved with it.I was not perfect, I’m not saying that..but I saved them from this cult and now I have grandkids...and they all know that if they feel lost..they have a family who will back them 100%...they don’t need a cult.

Thanks again for another great interview. This guy is awesome in the way he handled his situation. His daughter has a very high chance of never allowing WT to taint her. Once someone sees a problem ( which there are plenty ) with the WT BEFORE a commitment is made, it'll be hard for them to return to such vomit even if they start wanting answers. They'll know that there are no true answers coming from the WT.

Wow, Jason used wisdom like Solomon in dealing with the situation coupled with critical thinking in reaching his daughter's heart looking at matters objectively and insightfully. Great Husband and Father - truly tactful and seasoned with salt. I was told & sold the idea when studying with JW's in 1992-93 at age 20 that infant baptism was never practiced in JW's, only in Christendom's churches and that JW people got immersed voluntarily after extensive study/training. I did not see a lot of teenagers, let alone 11-12 year olds getting baptized and knew of some that age who pushed their parents to allow them to get baptized but either held them back or they weren't "ready" in the Elders eyes - at least in my circuit & congregations. Jesus didn't get baptized until 30. All other Scriptural examples of baptism were ones of adult age. This indoctrination flim-flamming really runs deep & why certain aspects are so hard to let go. Excellent interview Fifth! Best & blessings to you, Jason & family! Dave in Wisconsin

Less than halfway through and this is chilling. After studying with Witnesses for 2 years, my questions got me labeled as “spiritually dangerous.” This was shortly after my study was attended by the CO, but I didn’t realize the significance of his visit until now. Approximately 2 weeks after my ex-wife was told I was spiritually dangerous, we were separated. We are now divorced and she is remarried to a Witness (her disfellowshipped ex-best friend’s ex-husband). Hope this story ends differently

This was awesome. Esp coming from a "worldly" person. Just shows that us who leave are actually good ppl and not "demon possessed" like witnesses think. My own mother recently admitted she feels i may be a seed of Satan. I can laugh at it because im a married man who literally works and does nothing but family activity, but deep down it still eats at you. That some crazy org can have that much control over your own family. This experience made my day, knowing someone was able to see through the lies so clearly

Thank you Cliff! Love your vids... very powerful! Thank you Jason! What a great dad you are Jason, teaching your daughter to think critically. I loved it when you 'got it' that JW kids can make decisions for life at "12" by getting baptized. How can anyone/ JWs say "no" (to making another decision: "I don't want to be a JW") if that is what JWs explain and promote to all that will listen.

This interview was so good to hear. Thank you for shedding light on this particular aspect of danger and damage inflicted by wt org. The things non-jw spouses have to deal with can be awful. High praise to this gentleman! I was relieved his dear daughter saw through it all of her own cognition. My father was not a jw and endured so much that in hindsight I would not have blamed him if he would have left. He was a man of strong integrity though and his love, loyalty and duty was to the family. He took care of us. I learned the most important things in life from him. Here's to all the non-jw spouses and parents! Know that your unconditional love is a game changer that can beat all the odds. ❤

Jason did well to encourage his daughter's critical thinking skills. Its really hard to get through to a spouse though. I was really against children getting baptized and said so to an elder as I knew they'd be disfellowshipped if they messed up in their youth. The elder was shocked that I expected their children to be just as imperfect as all other children. I hope his wife looks at TTATT - The Truth About The Truth, and wakes up. My youngest children are that age and very spiritual. They know I was almost baptized a JW and was married to one previously. I have educated them on that now. Recently we started going to church and they chose to get baptized of their own accord. But they have been allowed to question everything and disagree on church doctrine. They have no penalty if they leave the church, in fact sometimes we go to other churches and they are free to tell me which they think are following Jesus more closely and where they'd rather go. They are just happy to be baptized as Christians. Most of all, they like to read straight out of the Bible at home, passage by passage, and questioning it and bouncing thoughts off each other. Nothing is regurgitated, but spontaneous. Nothing is ever forced. "God is love" after all. That song about fear is so true. I had that fear of being in the wrong church for so long, after leaving Watchtower. Now, it's gone and I was so moved by a song they sang recently in a local church because they sang about not having fear because we have Jesus. It hit me how I had been under fear for so long caused by involvement with Watchtower in my first marriage.

Wow... that child is so fortunate to have her dad! These high control groups that tell people how THINK (or more accurately, they tell them to NOT think) really do a number on kids. This wonderful dad is inoculating his girl against mind control. His talks with her will benefit her for life. Any person raised in these cults can recover. I've seen it many times. The human brain is very resilient. I will say I'm surprised at this marriage. It is exceptionally rare for a marriage to survive a member's cult membership. I've never seen it happen and I would be extremely surprised if this marriage survives. I'm sorry to say...

Thank you for a great video. I am in a similar situation. My wife has not been baptized yet, but has been studying for 3 years, but she is deep in. I have decided to get divorced because I do not want to be in a marriage where her "truth" means more to her than her marriage. I have also been respectful in the beginning when she started studying, thinking it would end at some time, and if it gave her some peace of mind, it was good for her. But then she started with strange comments like: You are lucky we got married before a became a witness, because the elders would not approve a marriage with a nonbeliever. I was shocked... Later she told me that if she should choose between our marriage and the "truth", she would choose the "truth" - and later said to me, that I would end up as an old and lonely man, and my children would hate me, if she was not allowed to learn them about the "truth" and take them to meetings. Its been a hard decision for me to choose the divorce - But I dont want to be married and share my life with a woman that loves the watchtower more than me, and her love is conditional - I have stayed to long in the marriage, hoping she would wake up, but also to protect my children. But I cannot stay unhappy in a marriage for protecting my children - I want to give them a happy dad and show them a better alternative than the watchtower. My oldest boy (age 12) luckily has seen that science is the "real" truth, and his brother (age 9) is looking up to his brother, so there is hope for him. I also have a daughter aged 4, but I am very worried for her - but I will do my best showing her the right path. The kids are going to stay one week at my wife and one week at my place, so it gives me good opportunities to influence them in the right direction. My wifes suggestion to keep the marriage was, that I should stop reading and watching all that apostate litterateur and videos, because it confused me - instead I should forget it, or talk to the elders, because they could give me some good answers. One day we were arguing, she said, that if she not been such a good and believing witness, she would have divorced long time ago - not realizing the only reason we were arguing was because she wants to be a witness. I fully understand that my decision drives her directly in the arms of the organization - but I have as much right to say no to the organization, as she has the right to say yes.
@pinkfuschia8140
@pinkfuschia8140 6 лет назад
Ole Ladefoged If you're the one that goes for the divorce, you will feed the Watchtower teaching that you are "worldly" and your wife and children are victims. This could turn the children and your wife towards Watchtower even more. You have to be an example to the children, even if it's hard. I had things thrown at me like "You're not submissive enough like the Bible says you should submit to my headship." I remember saying "Well then you should've married one of those submissive little Jehovah's Witness girls instead." This was the indoctrination of my husband and it was hard to break through as he really believed it.

"Jason" is correct about Jehovah not actually being God's name. The Watchtower Society's New World Bible Translation Committee admitted as much. "While inclining to view the pronunciation 'Yahweh' as the more correct way, we have retained the form 'Jehovah' because of people's familiarity with it since the 14th century." ~ New World Bible Translation Committee (The Kingdom Interlinear Translation of the Greek Scriptures, page 23.) If Yahweh is "the more correct way," it follows that Jehovah cannot really be God's name. The form Jehovah was created by a Catholic monk in the 14th century, a fact which the Watchtower has acknowledged. Rather than retaining the form Jehovah because of people's familiarity with it, I believe it was more likely retained because Watchtower President J.F. Rutherford had named the group Jehovah's Witnesses in 1931.

I have to say it, can you imagine the monumentally awesome choice the girl made at age 12. Now she has a chance at decent life and nothing to stop her from having a bright future:) my biggest problem with JWs is the fact their children are not allowed to pursue their passions in life and taught that door knocking is the only future for them. What a miserable horrible thing to teach children. JW children feel no different than animals in a cage simply because everyone and every thing is bad and their not allowed to do nothing other than be a slave to the cult.

Oh wow, that was a very good interview that hits home with me, it vindicates my approach towards my family. Unlike Jason, I do not use doctrine to debate the issue but take a human right, social policy take on demonstrating the WT oppressive control. His experiences parallel my experiences almost to a T, but I'm a few years behind his progress with his daughter, mine are too young to understand the social complexity of it all, they are in the "petting the Panda" phase. My approach is exactly like Jason's in the sense the wife is too indoctrinated to hear any difference of opinion and he concentrated his efforts with his kids. I too am very respectful and patient with this situation instead of combative, reactive and heavy handed which is what the WT demonizes the worldly spouses in their propaganda of what to be expected of us. The kids do notice the image of us propagated by the WT does not reflect reality which is the first of many inconsistencies they will discover in their journey. The key is to be there in full support no matter the outcome of their self realization. Jason's experience is proof of that concept and it gives me and my kids hope. Thank you, Fifth and Jason with a shot in the arm of confidence.

The Worldly Spouse I love watching your videos too. I think you and Jason are doing a great job with your wives and children, so patient. I just get concerned more over people with daughters than sons in this religion and I just hope they grow up with confidence in knowing they are equal. I was the worldly spouse and soon learned that girls are not given equal rights here. I never got baptized and went to those meetings for 5 years after my husband died. One of the things that got me out was thinking that I don't want my daughter growing up having to confess her sins to a group of 3 men, not knowing if they are even trustworthy or respectable, or having to go in subjection and not be equal to her husband. I knew I did not want this for my daughter and wanted to protect her from it. I also didn't want my son being influenced by those men either. I hope you are all around long enough to protect your daughters and make them strong.

I'm in a very similar situation, minus any children. I am a Christian, raised in a Pentecostal church. I never gave much thought to the JWs until meeting her. My wife isn't an active JW, but she was raised in it and still believes their doctrine, attends the annual memorial, and will not read or study any theological material not from the watchtower. When we were dating, I tried to point out some of the obvious fallacies in their doctrine, but it was like talking to a child about the existence of Santa Claus. It's obvious to me that this organization is really just about scamming people into providing free labor and recruitment services for a publishing company. I feel sorry for my wife and every single person under their control. In her case, I think she's reluctant to turn completely away from them because she doesn't want to lose her relationship with her mother. It's crazy to me how obvious their manipulative tactics are, but the indoctrinated simply can't or won't see it. Pray for her, please.

A “party phase” LoL Yep that is how it happens. They are bold enough to venture outside, find someone to love and think that the fairytale ending is that the unbelieving spouse will become a baptized Wittiness. I knew someone that tried at least twice to do that and failed. I take my hat off to the Farther for handling his situation so well. Giving someone personal power when it is being denied them is very powerful!

I have been in a gray area for more than a decade and find that guilt and fear (losing family/Armageddon/hurting god) has kept me in. During this time I met and married my husband(not jw). It is crazy how many people are astounded to know I have a great marriage, not with a wife beater or a scoundrel. its expected as we are taught thats what you'll get for marrying outside of faith. Some try to pressure me to make my husband accept and become jw however, I always tell them that I never put that as a condition in our marriage and will never do it. I allow my husband to share his beliefs and I cherry pick I guess what I want my kids to learn. I don't want them to live in fear or guilt how I have for all my life

outstanding video, excellent way to teach your child, critical thinking and allowing them to make their own choice, teach by example by setting a good example, showing the child that those of the world as JW speak are not bad people.

This guy is smart..and it’s funny hearing these things from his perspective...esp about the Curcuit Servant falling asleep.lol..I wish I’d had that as a young girl...and this also, imo, shows that it takes a certain type of person to be taken in by groups like this...I’m not speaking of people who were raised in this religion..I’m talking about true converts..I got involved as a young girl with a very troubled home life...a lost soul...and the Witnesses became my family...this man is secure within hisself...I think to get caught up in this and controlled like this group controls...you have to be lost ...at least I was...this guy is very smart and very strong..I’m glad his daughter has him...

Excellent video.....I have a very basic question for Witnesses...... Where in Revelation does it exactly say that my dead grandmother, who had no heavenly desire or calling, ...would be raised from the dead DURING Jesus 1000 year rule after Armageddon? Where is that scripture exactly?

Question to Fifth. What happens if a non Jdub parent married to one refuses to allow their kid be baptized under the age of 18? Does the practicing Jdub have to obtain constent from their non Jdub spouse? In my view, they should adamantly refuse for it to happen. For if or hopefully when their child decides to exit, the family will be severed.

I don't doubt it's happening. In 30 years of being a devout witness, (I left in the 80's) it would have been out of line with doctrine.
