The Cenobites are my favorite horror characters of all times. The whole background story with Leviathan and the Lament Configuration are just flawless.
Wd Wright However, on October 24, 2013, Clive Barker stated that he will be directing and writing the reboot of the franchise with actor Doug Bradley attached to play Pinhead yet again.
***** well as long as Clive Barker and Doug Bradley are working together I can't complain too much. It's just that the scene where Frank re - animates himself I feel like it will never have the same visceral feel if they did it in CGI than they did the first timr. And that scene was fucking amazing for its time and still holds to this day.
Wd Wright With the right people doing the CGI, they could pull it off, assuming that's how the movie would go. Just go through this: likes.com/tech/can-you-tell-real-people-apart-from-cgi-portraits ;)
Yeah, but make no mistake, Doug Bradley will be there with his fucking hand out when the screenplay is handed to Dimensions for production and is given a budget code. I think Pinhead needs a wholesale reboot - and that includes a new actor.
hypnodance Well, apparently Clive Barker wants Doug to play Pinhead in the rumored remake of the first movie. Also, Doug played Pinhead until Revelations... the makeup Doug wears is ultimately a full head mask with eyes and mouth cutout.
+Chris Cunningham Revelation sucked big time.Specially because of the anoying teens. But them, the was made for them. It's a teen movie, nothing more. The hole remake/prequels/whatever trend should just end.I agree with Bradley!
I just wonder if Pinhead is still SCARY? I read The Scarlet Gospels recently, and the hooks and chains thing is so fucking tired now. I think the whole mythos needs a reboot....preferably without that mediocre OAP, Doug Bradley...
I find Pinhead oddly attractive 😍😍 Doug has some nice hands when watched the Hellraiser movies and they did close ups on his hands when he picks up the Lament Configuration I was always like "damn he has nice hands" even if there was faint blood on his finger tips
Would anyone else be interested in seeing a prequel made? Maybe, the years Chanard spent trying to find a way into hell, collecting his artifacts, following the clues of people had escaped hell, the families of those who opened the box, and perhaps coming across a young boy who would later become Chatterer?
Doug has always scared me when he plays Pinhead! He truly is an incredible actor! I'm a fan of the Hellraiser movies! But some of them I'm not that into! I couldn't imagine a remake of the first one especially without Doug as Pinhead! Any other male actor wouldn't be as good as him in my personal opinion!
***** That is so very true! I have all of the Nightmare on Elm Street movies and Freddy vs Jason. Robert Englund is the only man who plays Freddy Krueger so well! I was a bit disappointed that they replaced Robert in the remake of Nightmare on Elm Street! Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the movie but I wasn't a big fan of the person that played Freddy. I think there is some roles that a person plays and they can't be replaced.
I did see that in the sequels. My guess would be that Chatterer's design became fairly iconic, like Pinhead, so they found ways to keep including it. According to the lore of the story, Chatterer was favored by Leviathan and he worked along with the Engineers to create Torso. Chatterer was also the page of Pinhead, so it would make sense, story-wise, that he would have grown fond of him. I would love to see his origin and creation because he was just a child when he opened the box.
Most of them are junk but Doug invested 'lead cenobite' with such grandeur, boredom and dignity that it was obvious he would become a horror icon overnight. My favorite line-reading from the original is not 'We'll tear your soul apart' but 'You've done this before?' 'VERY MANY TIMES'
Doug Bradley is awesome.I always wonder what the movie would have been like if they kept Pinhead's character a female, like the book version had..But now it's impossible to even try to imagine not using such an iconic and brilliant actor as Doug! The fact that anyone would dare make a Hellraiser without Pinhead(Revelations)is a fucking sin! It's exactly like making A Nightmare On Elm Street without Robert England as Freddy. What the hell is wrong with people?
Also awesome, Bradley does the voice of The Emperor in Star Wars The Old Republic. Same old Pinhead voice. Heh, Emperor Pinhead. Now we know why the Empire is so damned evil!
Doug Bradley is so well spoken and good on him for not backing the horrible remake. The scariest thing in Hellraiser Revelations was the acting. It deeply saddens me that the makers of the film are able to call it the ninth installment. It's such garbage. It's not even a good bad horror movie. It's just bad. I had to force myself to finish it. I mean, I did open the box on that one. See what I did there?
Pinhead is set apart from most horror monsters as he is intelligent and knows exactly what he wants, if that does not scare the pants off you nothing will. Pinhead is the most scary monster ever, and I love it.
Remake, reimagining, whatever, people who love the real Hellraiser and real Pinhead probably can't stop you. But personally, I'll probably never see them. I tend to be happy with originals no matter how much hype and zealotry remakes see to acquire.
Why would lie about not wanting to see remade movies? lol New, as in a new story, not a remake, no real need of remaking established characters, those are new movies. Like, take Fornicus, Lord of Bondage and Pain from Cabin in the Woods. Maybe he isnt a real cenobite, but he was interesting and I would have loved to see his movie. But I'd still like to see the original player of this character because he had the presence, the interesting quality that is himself, that made the character. You know when someone takes an established character, more times than not, we wind up with some silly shadow of the character.
After seeing the remake, it was definitely worth the wait. The movie is fantastic. Doug Bradley is irreplaceable, but Jamie (Clayton?) makes the role her own in this new imagining (and it is a lot different which does justice to booth movies, like The Evil Dead did).
Despite Doug's disagreement, I would love to see Clive Barker remake Hellraiser today(2021)with different actors. Just to see his growth as a director/ filmmaker and what he'd do differently.
Chatterer and Butterball had the more classic demonic, movie-monster look, but I liked Female Cenobite (or Deep Throat) because of the subtlety of her design. She was still clearly human but contained these horrific mutilations, a lot like Pinhead. The humanization of her, and the fact that she spoke with a calm, intelligent voice like Bradley, was what made her scary to me. If there were a reboot, I would love to see how they all become Cenobites. Especially her and Chatterer.
Doug Bradley is fucking legend. Loved him as Pinhead for years, and God bless the man, he stuck with that franchise through all of the sequels (despite how awful some were). I'm not big on the idea of a remake, but if they were to do it, I hope that Doug would step back into the role
OK can I just say remakes are not always a bad thing. Sure more often than not they just make you wish you were watching the original but there are some gems. The Thing for instance is a remake of a 1950s sci-fi flick, the 1980s remake is a well remembered classic staple of horror, sci-fi and special effects.
Couldn't agree more Doug. I'm not for reboot culture either....there's been a few good ones, but there's some things that are sacred... Doug Bradley's Pinhead, Jaws, The Godfather,etc....these are films that should never be rebooted or remade.
I agree with Mr Bradley on the subject of remakes as opposed to sequals. IMHO if the basic premise is strong enough sequals can be potentially just as good but I do believe that after 3 it's time to call it quits.
The implied horrible dread of the Cenobites is negated by the thought that if they ever appeared to me and I punched Pinhead in the face, he'd fold like a house of cards.
hope hollydumb doesnt touch this movie for their remake craze....unless the original actor plays pinhead, there is no reason to do a remake. the voice is irreplaceable and the way he carries himself as he plays pinhead is unique.
Well i was considering watching the new one since it's on netflix. Now I'm not. One more thing our dear Xipe Totec has saved me from. Thanks. On the note of Doug Bradley, the man has talent, presence, and a good deal of charisma. I'd love to hear his take on Twilight and The Host.
We need Clive Barker to make a remake of the first hellraiser with the technology that we have nowadays a remake of the first hellraiser would be badass
I'm quite terrified of the prospect of a remake of Hellraiser. I'd rather spend an evening as a house guest of the original Cenobites! The long-awaited Barker novel, The Scarlet Gospels, on the other hand...
Well, he speaks during the normal take. Then I think they probably record his voice and add the deeper tones to it to make it what we here. Doing that probably dampens the accent. You can still hear an accent at times but it is always Doug, just modified voice. Same with Robert Englund for Freddy. But at times with him it is his real voice and others much deeper than normal.
there was a movie made recenly that was a sequel of sorts, but bradley wasn't in it; needless to say, the guy who replaced him was nowhere near the same caliber, but then again, you can't compete with the greats
