Joe was one of the first interviews I conducted for the comic archive. He was really very gracious about it. When I started the site I used vimeo but decided later on that youtube was a better way to share videos with people. When he died I looked and saw that I hadn't uploaded his video to youtube, only vimeo. So in order to share it with everyone I uploaded it here.

One of my heroes. Fell in love with his work on Sergeant Rock and the Haunted Tank in the late 60s/early 70s. Him and Russ Heath.

Joe was one of the first interviews I conducted for the comic archive. When he died I went to look at the video and found that it had only been uploaded to Vimeo so I uploaded it to RU-vid to make sure more people would have access.

Most of the greats simplified their styles as they aged, but Kubert remained as sophisticated as ever when he aged. So impressive.

I grew up looking at his art. I especially enjoyed one of his works, "Enemy Ace," I'm sorry he passed away. But though his art he will never be forgotten. God bless your soul, Joe Kubert.

Joe was my teacher for my 3rd year at his school. You don't really appreciate his work until you really study comic art. Some people and even I at one time thought his stuff was sloppy but when you realize just how genius his style was only then can you appreciate it. He was a hard-ass but that's what you need to be successful...especially in this industry. One of the all-time best and one of my favorites. Best thing about Joe's art is that it just kept getting better unlike a lot of artist in the comic field.

What a relief to realize that I'd been pronouncing his name correctly all this time. (As an Italian-American, I already had an unfair advantage with "Buscema", which is the _other_ most-mispronounced name in comics). Joe's covers, along with his Tarzan, Enemy Ace and Sgt Rock pages, are of course deservedly legendary, but if you really want to treat your eyeballs to Kubert at his very best, try and track down his VIKING PRINCE stories from the early 60s - truly magnificent artwork.

He was a living legend! (sad). I once wanted to do his correspondence art course through the mail when i was going to college or had left college etc? I still have his letter to me this very day (think he personally wrote back to all those who wrote into him? or it was a printed letter he had typed up by computer etc). For reasons i even forget, i didn't do the course for whatever reasons at the time or so. Yeah i know one of the biggest regrets i have. loved the fact he cared enough to write me back himself. R.I.P. Joe.

I enjoyed this interview immensely. I was moved to do a RU-vid search because I live in Dover about a mile away from the Kubert School, which I passed today for the first time in quite a while. In the early '70s I went to a local college and was friends with one of Joe's neighbors, who knew I was a fan and collector of comic books. Thanks to him I arranged to visit Joe at his home and spent two afternoons with him, talking while he worked. At that time he was doing the Tarzan comic book for DC. He couldn't have been nicer. Watching this interview brought back great memories of those two lengthy visits 50 years ago this year.

someone help me, okay I do my art work as with pencils and ofcourse I know ink pencil is used but like Joe Kubert I do not know the basic of that job I really do the art I do and also big fan this community of comic books. Is there anybody, who can teach me or at least give the basic information how to use brushes or other stuff. Im open to any tips. My goal is becoming an artist in comic sector to show myself I know that I must improve my skills so pls someone help me :D if you have any writing materials I would love toread and consider it for working.

It's hard to get all the basics of inking into a RU-vid comment. A lot of people start with a quill pen, like the hunts 102. They are pretty cheap and great to start with. Use India ink, a popular one is Higgins black magic. But there are plenty of other options. I like pelikan drawing ink A. With these dip pens the harder you press the thicker the line. Brushes are harder to learn. I recommend reading The Art of Comic Book Inking by Gary Martin. One other option is to try using Micron Pigma pens. They are essentially felt tip pens. Most pros don't use these for their main inking tool but if you're used to drawing in pencil they are pretty easy to pick up and use.

+The Comic Archive Thank you I will try to gather everything you said, If I can find them. I will look up for the book and also thank you for your tips. I actually never thought that somebody would answer to a youtube comment, at least seriously. If you could tell me what part should I be work ing on in collage or in university? Of course under art. That would be really nice if you could answer it and again thank you :D
