It's actually amazing how gay this movie already was, considering the time it came out. I mean, they did not make Louis and Lestat lovers in so many words, but they still made Lestat a Bi King and gave Claudia two Daddys, both pretty risque in 1994

How come that in the past one musketeer could tell the other musketeer "I love you with all my hearth" and it wasn't considered gay. But nowdays a good male friendship is gay....

@@blueeyed5074 a lot of it is america directly and it's influence on the world. It is important to understand that the people who colonised America in the beginning where all extremists in one way or the other. You don't just leave your life behind and try to start fresh halfway around the world with nothing if you have a stable place to live already. Many where puritanians or other religious splinter groups, who felt that their European countries didn't provide the right place for their belief, so they went somwhere where they could shape the world in their views. And from this very conservative stock, we get the america we have today, that is still very deeply steeped in being the 'right' kind of christian. Rememeber how Louis One-Night-Stand in the show said he enlisted in the Army because 'european sensibilities' weren't as concerned with Skincolor and sexuality? I mean, we are mainly talking about western Europe here and especially in that time period, my Country, germany, very _specifically_ went in the other direction, but the french were pretty much always more lax and the english went with 'as long as i don't have to know, i don't care.' That isn't to say that 'sodomie' wasn't viewed as a crime in many european countries as well, but the persecution was much less and since there was no direct Slavery in Europe (we just benefitted from it indirectly, much nicer, leaves your hands much cleaner) the Idea of the inferior Black was... differently shaped then in America. This is, of course, only a very narrow Window into what is a giant socioeconomic progress that you could write a dissertation about but these points are part of why we are were we are right now (As an afterthought, I am happy to report that in northern germany quite specifically we are extremely progressive. My mother married her wife three years ago and the choir we conduct, consisting mostly of elderly ladys in their 60s-80s all attended to sing and my Grandmother recently had a long converstation with my trans best friend in which she ranted about stoopid people who shouldn't care what anyone else does and just let people live their lifes :)

Vampires dont have sex in Anne Rice books. So how they can be bi or homo or straight?

LMAO your love for Claudia is adorable. She's everyone favourite serial killer demented plotting child 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I have to say I really loved teenage Claudia version on the show too, but the canon Claudia was even younger than this and it's something so much more horrifying and infinity more creepy in her being so young looking but being a grown psycho stuck in that body.

I watched this movie for the first time in 8th grade. ('98) It sparked a love affair with all things Vampire Chronicles for MANY years. I was DEEP in it. And I see so much of Louis and Lestat in Will and Hannibal. I have a type, I guess.

The movie is better and the book is even more better. “I’ll give you the choice I never had” is because of how he was made. Read the book “the vampire Lestat” Lestat got changed against his will and then just as he changed the vampire who made him killed himself

As you probably guessed, Blacl louis is a modern interpretation, even in the books he was white and like in this movie, a plantation owner. Interestingly, he became less racist as a Vampire... in the sense that he did see _all_ humans as inferior, regardless of skincolor, so... progress?

I haven't watched the show yet myself, but seeing you guys react to the movie makes me think I've been missing out. 🤣I was afraid they'd change the characters too much, but Lestat and Claudia manipulating the shit out of a clueless Louis really is the status quo. Also Louis/therapy, best ship. One of my favourite things about the movie (and the first book) is that Louis is still pissed off at Lestat, so his narrative is less than objective. They're very sweet together in the subsequent books if you ever read those.

I absolutely enjoyed this film when I was a kid and still do here's an interesting fact the role of Daniel was originally supposed to play by river Phoenix but sadly he passed away at the age 23 so Christian slater stepped in

You are hilarious, so are soon. But maybe you read the books. And you know the history? Do you know how it is that the state can fly due to the powers of the Queen of the dam that he drank and that movie?

The sad thing about the movie is that Cruise and Dunst knock it out of the park with their performances, but Pitt is clearly phoning it in...which hurts because he's the main character. Jacob Anderson clearly cared a lot about the show, and that's why his performance shines.

@@gildatheplantthat's because Brad was having a difficult time while making the film due to the process of him dealing with the make up he tried quiting the film but was warned he had to pay a big fine so he stayed
@gildatheplant
@gildatheplant 8 месяцев назад
I don't know. In the 30 years since the making of the film, Brad's said all kinds of different reasons for not wanting to do the movie. It's hard to believe what the truth is. That said, the reason for staying (the fear of losing millions for backing out of his contract) is true. That was standard practice for trying to back out of a movie contract back then. @@angelaholmes8888

The movie is much truer to the book than the TV show is. But there are things both get wrong. Claudia was only 5 when she was made a vampire. Armand was an angelic-looking 17 year old auburn-haired boy. I really don't like the aging up of these characters, though I understand about Claudia. Louis and Armand did indeed have a relationship for many years, but Louis remained despondent. Armand finally confessed to him about his role in Claudia's death and Louis confessed that he already knew. When even this failed to snap Louis out of his stupor, Armand just wandered off and left Louis. I think you'd really like the books, especially the next two.
@archangeljmj6008
@archangeljmj6008 Год назад
I think you're confused about the relationships. Louis and Claudia were lovers, essentially husband and wife. Louis and Lestat were more like closer than brothers

The fact that you call Lestat bisexual tells me you didn't read the books but instead watch the crappy woke show that massacred Anne Rice's works.

I've read books 1 through 11 of the Vampire Chronicles and read this book in particular 4 times. Lestat is very much bisexual. Many of the Vampires in this universe are bi- or pansexual to some degree. They are too old and wise to limit themselves by labels or gender. They can and do fall in love with anyone, regardless of gender.
@gildatheplant
@gildatheplant 9 месяцев назад
LOL. Anne Rice once referred to herself as a gay man trapped in a woman's body, at a time when such ideas of gender and sexuality were almost completely unheard of. She was "woke" decades before the term was coined. Lestat has a multitude of male and female lovers in the books- with Nicki, Louis and David (all men) being his three most important love interests. Akasha is perhaps his most important female lover, but that relationship was forced on him, so not a true romance.
