Claudia is a lot more like Lestat than Louis even though she feels close to Louis. In some ways she’s the most vampiric vampire of the show too. Put down the paternity test, Lestat you ARE the father/mother/maker 😂

You’re like the only reactor who calls out Claudia’s manipulation. They want to turn her into an innocent being and she isn’t! She’s her father’s child! Lestat’s child. Louis’ child. She can manipulate with the best of them. She wanted Louis to leave with her and she was going to do anything to make sure he was.

😅 I was so mad the subtitles spoiled you on how it was Antoinette coming. Louis has a hold on these toxic old vampires I tell ya. He's my favorite character and I absolutely love his arc. He's not perfect by far but he has such beautiful moments in this series. I'm with you for season 2 ❤🌮

The way you laugh about Lestat thinking he was gonna turn Antionette, kill Claudia, and both his husband and his girlfriend was gonna go off together and the just live happily ever after. It is the AUDACITY for me. The gall...Lestat thought he was the pimp. Flew too close to the sun. LOL.

Finding a reaction channel that commits to viewing shows/characters with an open but inquisitive mind, isn't afraid to give honest opinions or find joy in dark humour, and strives to see things through the lens of each character's perspective, is hard work sometimes but you (and Frank) have been a joy to discover! I understood COMPLETELY how the balcony scene and the dance made you emotional, and how conflicting it felt to see Louis be the one to 'end' Lestat, but what a finale it was! Their costumes were exquisite, the music was bittersweet, Clever Claudia being a chip off the vampiric block with the poison was brilliant, Daniel braving a volatile vamp in order to strip away the BS blinkers from Louis' beautiful eyes was a scene-stealer (until 'Rashid' rose through the household ranks in the blink of an admittedly beautiful eye) and despite everything, I was cheering that Louis had, in fact, chosen Lestat after all! Sorry, not sorry! 😂 Rolin Jones and his incredible cast and crew really know how to spin a yarn and put on a show, right? Signing off, as requested - "Taco, you're off! Okay, I did not see it coming that you would cry during the dance scene. I thought it'd be a different moment, but man oh man do I understand. This show stir so many emotions! For me it was Lestat and Louis on the balcony when Lestat is talking about New Orleans. I feel like that Lestat is symbolically talking about Louis whenever he speaks of his love for NOLA.

A little note to give clarification 19:20 why Claudia couldn’t overpower Antoinette even though she is older. It’s because Claudia was turned as a child. So even though she is older, her body isn’t. That’s also why she could not protect herself against Bruce in ep. 5.

Yey!! you made it to this episode. I want to say that I really like that you see Lestat as more than just a pure villain. I appreciate it because he is one of my favorite characters in mystical literature since I was 14. For me, he is the definition of the word "Vampire". His mannerisms, character, cruelty, caring notes, his love for music and theater, his love for Louis and most importantly his love for himself, make him more than just evil. He has his own traumas and reasons for being who he is now, just like Louis and Claudia. Every turn into a vampire brings trauma, and Anne Rice's story is about revealing these traumas and the consequences of these traumas. I am really looking forward to the second season and Hannibal, thanks for the reactions, good luck and much strength

🌮 I love, love your reactions! The way you acknowledge how no character is innocent. This is something I've noticed with commentary and reactions to interview with the vampire. A lot of people will take sides and won't acknowledge the faults of their favorite characters. Aka, a lot of Lestat apologists, Louis lovers, and Claudia stans. I love all the characters in this show, but all of them are shady. Most of them were full-blown serial killers at some point in their lives. They're vampires, hell even the human representation we got on the show, Daniel, also has some things going on. Anyways, thank you so much for your commentary/reactions. They always seem to drop at the right time

I totally agree with your feelings about Louis -- he's so easily swayed by those around him. Remember, these first two seasons are a whole growth arc for Louis, so he has a way to go. Can't wait to see you experience S2!!!

Very much appreciate your reactions and commentary. You have a lot of insight into Louis in particular that people who just want him to be their flawless fave miss. (And Claudia! There are no innocent vampires on this show.) I love that you were moved by the ball scene between Lestat and Louis, the writing and chemistry between the actors is so amazing I don’t see how anyone couldn’t be moved. Daniel Molloy might be my favorite character on the show next to Lestat. He has no tolerance for anyone’s bullshit and it’s so entertaining. Lastly the way you kind of rolled your eyes at Louis and Armand at the end made me cackle. I really love Louis but he certainly has his issues. Looking forward to s2 , thank you for the teaser with Daciana, I thought that was such a heartbreaking scene for both that short lived character, and Claudia 🌮

🌮🌮🌮 I could watch the moment when Claudia straightens up, turns and says, "Lestat, you must think me an idiot" a million times and it would NEVER fail to give me a sense of the deepest satisfaction. Check. Effing. Mate. It's wonderful, and I think it shows Claudia IS Lestat's true daughter. The student has surpassed her teacher. Brava 🎉🎉🎉 Louis being the one to put a blade to Lestat's throat was the first mercy he showed. He removed all the dead blood from Lestat's system (not 100% sure lore wise, but I don't think it was possible for Lestat to heal without this happening). The second mercy was to prevent Claudia from burning him. The third was to then put Lestat in a coffin with locks on the inside (a secure sanctuary from the light and a place to heal), and to make it possible for Lestat to access a plentiful food source that would be easy for a healing vampire to catch. The Three Mercies of Saint Louis... Using the sword cane also mirrors Lestat's first sighting of Louis. In both situations it looks like Louis is engaged in an act of violence and aggression. With Paul he was really keeping up his image on the street ("You couldn't look weak on Liberty") and making sure Paul wouldn't get his ass beaten, or worse, by someone on the street. Lestat saw a violent person, but that isn't who Louis is. It was one of the masks he was forced to wear due to circumstance. In the same way, Claudia expected Louis to end Lestat, but that is something Louis could never do. I don't think it was ever a possibility. As for Louis' passivity and depressive state, sadly Anne Rice wrote "Interview" during a time of immense grief in her life. Louis feels like a character that stands still because he's an expression of that grief and despondency. I am glad the show is developing Louis' character beyond this while honouring the spirit of Louis in the first book.

as other people have said, the louis in this show is SO much more charismatic and likeable than the miserable guy in the original book and i'm saying that with my whole chest. DON'T watch the 1994 movie with tom cruise and brad pitt because it spoils major plot beats for season 2, but brad pitt in that movie is the most depressing character ever and the louis we have in the show is improved by M I L E S. you're absolutely valid to feel the way you do about him as a character in the show but honestly it could be soooo much worse lmfao

I love all the characters but Louis is my favourite. He frustrates me more than everyone else, I just want to shake him sometimes😂. I expect Lestat's fans to love him but still acknowledge his bad behaviour so I'll never be mad at someone for being annoyed by Louis sometimes. 🌮

Hey Taco, here's your fun fact..... In the books there is absolutely nothing that can kill a vampire other than your body being completely consumed by fire and turning to absolute ash but even then if given a few centuries the ashes would reconstitute themselves together. As long as they weren't scattered. And if decapitated as long as the head was placed back onto the stump it would sew itself back together. However this does seem to be different for the show and vampires can die from decapitation, fire and sunlight as told by Louis. Also being staked in the heart would do absolutely nothing. That doesn't apply to these vampires. They would just rip that s*** out and tear your head off LOL😅 I hope we get season 2 soon! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

I was so mad about the subtitles ruining the Antoinette reveal! Well, to be fair, I feel like her speaking at the ball ruined the plot twist. They shouldn't have added that part. I can honestly say I love all of these characters in their good and bad moments because they are all so complex, infuriating, and sympathetic. They are all amazing actors. This is one of my top favorite shows IWTV is so incredible in everyway I'm obsessed/hooked LOL. Also important side note yeah the actress that plays Claudia in Season 1 Bailey Bass she unfortunately had other commitments with James Cameron's Avatar movies, and she couldn't return for Season 2. But no worries the new replacement actress for Claudia in Season 2 Delainey Hayles is amazing it was such a seamless transition the new actress really makes it her own. I think that for Louis's justification to killing lestat is that it's a point of view from a parent's perspective. The same way that a parent who has a abusive or slightly abusive partner to their child they want to protect the child. And the fact that he's not happy with lestat and the fact that lestat has someone on the side and the fact that lestat also kinda terrorizes Claudia. It all built up to this.

25:31 noooo he's not saying that to minimize who lestat is to him or what he's done, on the contrary it's like, the horror of seeing this person that he loved so much reduced to this horrifying, lifeless thing, and the guilt he feels for doing that to him. that line is taken directly from the book! also I do think lestat's murder would have been justified. they tried to leave him peacefully before and were met with extremely violent responses every time. he really left them no choice (maybe because, like that other comment said, he would rather be dead than alone?) but the thing is louis really only did it for claudia. because he wanted her to be free. and even then he couldn't bring himself to finish the job. okay now time to sit on my hands so I don't write more because I have things to say about some of your thoughts but it's all spoilersssssss looking forward to your s2 reactions 🌮

I don't know if you wanted an answer to your question about filming order. NOT A SPOILER but I've seen an interview or may read an interview by Jacob Anderson that said they filmed the Opera House scene first...you know the one where Lestat tells Louis that Louis keeps him from being lonely and then proceeds to get ticked at The Tenor for missing notes. My assumption is that it probably is filmed out of order depending on people's schedules, when sets can be completed, etc.

Love your reaction! Louis is my least favorite as well even though I still adore him. That's what's so great about the show, the characters are so complex and interesting even when they're infuriating. Love that you got emotional about Lestat and Louis. Their chemistry is out of this world and it's such a sad moment at the end of season 1.

17:50 Oh wow but I love this shot, the framing of it is just amazing. I am forever and always going to be a Claudia apologist in that I know she can be awful, but I support each and every one of her wrongs. She did so well here; she deserves ✨the world✨, truly the hero of this story. I completely understand being a bit uneasy with Louis' actions here, but I actually really like having him be the one to do it. It has nice symmetry with how they met; Lestat initially jumped into this BECAUSE of Louis' ability to slice the throat of someone he loves immensely if needed. It's not a terribly /nice/ trait, but it's still something Lestat was more than aware of going in. And honestly, it hurts to see them both in pain over this, but it wasn't undeserved and it puts them on a much more even footing. They've both tried to kill one another to some degree now. Louis and Claudia get to have freedom to adventure outside of their bubble, and Lestat gets to go to death time-out to think about what he did; everybody both wins and loses. I don't think you're off though, you've always got such good insights and opinions on everything. I can't wait to see what you have to say about S2. 🌮

Love that you clocked that it didn't make sense for Louis to be so okay killing Lestat. He tried so hard to lie to himself and pretend like he was able to discard Lestat so easily. The conversation between Lestat and Louis before their dance is so heartbreaking...you can just feel that he knows exactly what's coming and it HURTS him. Armand is 514 years old by the way, not 314! Which is NUTS because Lestat has been the oldest vampire so far. I've never felt that you dislike Louis by the way, in case that's unclear! You are probably one of the MOST objective people I've seen watch this show. A lot of reactors are either all or nothing behind each of the characters, when these characters this story are too complex for that kind of thinking. I CANNOT wait for Season 2! Season 2 is even better imo. 🌮

You are 100% correct in your thoughts! Lol!!! Lestat didnt derserve to die! Lol Antoinette didnt either. Cause really, what did she do??? They wanted her dead episodes ago and she surely didnt do anything to deserve that at the time either. Claudia is way more vicious than anyone gives her credit for. They look at the fact that she is 14, that she is so innocent and yada yada. But Claudia is a grown woman. 36yrs old. And she not stupid either! Book Claudia was even older... In her 60s. She was done dealing with Lestat. She wanted Louis to herself and was going to do what she did regardless. Like you said, Louis is moldable, Lestat is not. Claudia needed the one she could manipulate and got rid of the one she couldnt. Lol. And everyone looks at it as "Oh he abused all of them!". Lol. They abused each other. Louis even hemmed her ass up. So that whole episode 5 debacle was just testosterone. 🤣🤣🤣

Daniel is often the voice of the audience on the show even if he is his own character in the story yeah he often says what we are all thinking and also i think claudia was 100% justified in wanting to kill lestat she dealt with the situation the only way she knew how, i'll always be a claudia apologist!

I think u and frank?(the other guy that is also watching the series with u) should do an open talk end season recap of the season and just go down episode by episode as long or short as y’all like and just talk about ur dislikes and likes about each ep & how it ties together at the end, answer some questions along the way and have fun with it I do enjoy y’all’s commentary and how human it feels so it being casual would 🔥 but just a thought 😊🫶🏼

Claudia has a legitimate beef with Lestat worth killing him over: He turned her and now she’s trapped in a hormonal teen’s body forever, won’t ever have what Louis and Lestat have because of it and felt that he hated her.

I’m going to pushback on the waxing poetic of Lestat’s love for Louis. Lestat has lied, especially by omission from the day they met. Before he turned Louis, he didn’t tell him he’d need to give up ties to his humanity, or i don’t know…sunlight. He didn’t tell Louis he “likes variety.” He didn’t tell Louis he reserved the right to expand their little family by turning the mistress he claimed to kill, into a vampire whom he found more agreeable. Lestat may love Louis in some twisted fashion, but the only person he truly cares about is himself. That said, I can’t wait for your season 2 reactions.

the writing in the interview portion is so subtly good. when describing lestat in the aftermath of the murder , louis uses "it" as lestat's pronoun. but when daniel responds with "what did you do with it", he switches back to him "we threw him in a trunk" he's trying so hard to be impersonal and objective about it, but he can't

I love that you can cry over this - won't be the last time. Also, nice catch on "the ones who must be kept." Seems like a throwaway line so easy to miss, but what does that mean? [No spoilers folks]. I hate that captions ruined Antoinette reveal. I didn't watch with captions on, so although i suspected, it was a good reveal. And i was right there with Daniel at the end there too. Look, you can't be wrong here in how you feel. These are complicated situations and characters. And you will change your perspective as more happens and is revealed. That's the joy of watching this show. Personally I love every one if these f'ed up, toxic, traumatized, beautiful, awful, insane characters. I'm here for all of it. Onto season 2 - can't wait! 🌮

Rewatching this episode with you I noticed that before Antoinette came into the room, Claudia looked towards the door!!! She knew Antoinette was coming!! And yes, the new Claudia was excellent!! And that’s all I’m gonna say. 🌮🌮

personally i loved louis being part of lestat's murder because it goes to show that despite his hatred and pain over what lestat has done to him and claudia (things that completely justify their desire to kill him), he still can't fully go through with it, because he loves that man That Much. it's tragic, and he tries to distance himself from that because he is all about guilt and denial and yeah daniel knows how to cut deep, but he is too out of pocket sometimes lol omg the final scene with louis and claudia in 2x01 is INSANE. it's one of my favourite scenes from the whole show!! can't wait for season 2

I agree, Louis is very "eyerolish" lol But let me say this, the writers have done a LOT to minimize this. Louis from the books or the movie would make you drop this show on episode one 😂 Love your reactions, keep up the good work!

His purple prose is equal parts genuine classic Anne Rice gothica, affectation (you'll see what I mean, lol), and pure unadulterated senior citizen literature nerd, haha. Cannot wait for your season 2 reaction, there's going to be so much to dig into with Claudia, Louis, and Armand! Plus a whole cast of new weirdos 😂🌮

I loved watching this series and your reactions. It drives me a little batty that this show isn’t bigger, Everything is great performances, writing, and even production design/costumes. This show deserves way more hype! 🌮

I think Louis' Catholic guilt influenced him a lot. He never went to church much, but that guilt was always there, hence his constant ethics and morality worries and Lestat trying to gift him a Book of Hours.

This is my 3rd comment. At this point I feel like I'm spamming but I keep having thoughts. Lol. I was just thinking how lucky we are to strike gold with two amazing Claudias. Like I love Bailey in season one but I can't imagine not having Delainey for season two. These two young women are phenomenal.
