All really great tips! But this video doesn't touch on the fundamentals of how consultants do "problem solving" or how technically a case interview works ... Resources from third parties are usually more helpful!
Wouldn't be surprised if it was scripted. By making it seem like an easy task to adopt, those who already know how to do it are more inclined to apply, and those who don't apply anyway.
Consulting is a very stressful career choice..unless you are part of a very technical consulting firm (usually energy), you will find yourself in an overworked, hyper competitive environment, where often you have to "wing it" and pretend to have an understanding you dont really posses. Also, not very inspiring, unless you work in the renewable energy / sustainable development sectors. Pluses: very smart colleagues & you won't get bored easily. I was a consultant for 6 years of my life, glad I changed career path (like many). Dont get tricked by the glitter, there are much better jobs out there than consulting.
And these guys are supposed to be smart? They are just being verbose. It would have been much better if they actually did a case study in this video. Don't waste everybody's time.
With all said, an interviewee is just a puppet in front of the interviewer and has no chance to talk from his or her heart and even if did so, it solely depends on how you impressed the interviewer at the moment and there are many other factors intrinsic. It is not easy to articulate in a video speaking about how prepared you are, what you do, and all.
It might be a bit difficult to have answers to the current social and ecological situation? Talking about ‚growth‘ would be utterly inappropriate. They try to find a bit too simple answers. Life is too complex. Consulting companies who produce harmful products might be difficult, as the only reasonable advice for them would be stop selling their products #cocacola #phillipmorris #mcdonalds #kraftfoods #nestle
This is exactly the type of people I wanna spend time with. Right now I wanna hide from people I'm with. I wish McKinsey was like google where they recruit people without a degree.
They can’t do so. They bill ridiculous fees to their clients. Fortune 500 CEOs will listen to HBS Baker Scholars because they also are graduates of HBS or wished that they could have been accepted at HBS. Once you’ve been accepted at Harvard the mystique is gone for the rest of your life. It’s not that big of a deal.
McKinsey's historical moment 😂 "In 1980, AT&T commissioned McKinsey & Company to predict cell phone usage in the United States by 2000. The consulting group argued that cellular telephony would be a niche market. They forecasted 900,000 subscribers. How off were they? McKinsey’s estimate was less than 1% of the actual figure: 109 million. A decade later, attempting to recover from this drastic mistake, AT&T spent 12.6 billion dollars to acquire McCaw Cellular." 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I must say that the whole explanation of McKinsey's case study interview in the video is very well articulated! It just makes me admire the firm even more and I hope to join with the amazing people real soon! :D
If I were to join McKinsey with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism & Media Studies and a Master of Public Policy and Administration where would I fit in?
Let's be frank. Strategy consulting has lost its attractiveness, especially the MBB club. Young people have realized that in these clubs you use the same methods over and over again to structure and solve problems that your client has no time/HR for to tackle. What does it create? Efficiency machines with little personality and drive. Has a Steve Jobs type of person ever come from an MBB organization? I don't think so! Why? Because these organizations don't teach you how to run a business, be creative, or persuade people in a novel, inspiring way. In fact, they teach you anything but that.
@@damianrudling7663 Let's be frank. You're a victim of selection bias. C'mon drop some names of people who lost their families and became insane working in these golden cages. Oh yeah, you don't know any because these people don't become famous. Also, I was talking about founders. CEO of Google is not a founder (wealth creator), but an employee of a well-established organization (wealth sustainer) - that might work. But MBB kills creativity & dreams ;)
