This guy knows what he's talking about. We bought the same Coleman 18x48 pool and per his recommendation bought the Intex 16 in. sand filter pump he recommended. It has worked great for over two years!
I’ve had my sand filter now sense 2017. Still running fine. And I’ve been running it 24 hours a day currently as I just got over a massive algae outbreak from the winter. I’ve never had problems with it and only have to replace gaskets from time to time, and deep clean the sand at beginning of the season which I haven’t done this year yet. My cartridge pump has a CB little pin hole in it so trying to decide if I wanna replace it or find a way to patch it . Hmm decisions decisions.
Hi so I just wanted to make you right about rinse position. The rinse mode is the same as filter mode, but water goes out into the sewer and not to the pool. Yes rinse is for rinsing the multi port valve but also for resetting the sand bed to be ready for filtration process.
Installed our sand filter at the end of last season as an upgrade. Winterized it. Reinstalled. Haven't started it yet but direction on how to prime etc would be appreciated. Thanks!
I seriously love your videos! Thank you so much! I have a sand question for you. I was wondering if you had any problems with the pump throwing sand in pool because the sand was too small. Some folks are saying the 45 and .55mm sand is too small for our size pump. Some reviews recommend using the hth brand, but I also just saw the Natural Zeolite Sand. So I'm all over the place. I just don't want sand to get pushed into the pool. Thoughts?
A CPL of wks ago I purchased a Intex 18ft 48" pool where I bought the pool they had a nice deal on the Intex 12" pool pump hopefully this pump will be adequate! These pools are selling for $1800-2g now🤔 WTF I paid 400$ for my pool!
Hi, after we bought the Coleman 18' above ground swim Vista pool in early 2020, I discovered and started watching your channel and your videos were very helpful. On your recommendation I got the intex 16 inch sand filter pump. Thank you for recommending the plunger valves they've been a life saver more than once. The sand filter pump lasted 3 seasons. Impeller and motor seized up. I bought another one this April and for some reason the pre-filter housing won't stay in!!! My first pump never had this problem. It came loose and had gushed probably 200 galloons of water. Fortunately I caught it but need your advice. Should I just get a strong strap of some kind to hold them together?
On your skimmer, which adapter are you using to attach your hose to the skimmer? I have a crack in my hose and don’t have another one that fits on my skimmer. I have the Hayward wide mouth like you have.
Coleman Factory pump is dead in the water after 2 months or less. Could only find a 14 inch intex. Overpriced but not outrageous. Just checking, all connections should work or do I need adaptors? And if so, which ones. Enjoy the videos. Thank you for your time.
Hello there!; just saw your video on the Intex 16 inch pump and my question is; I have a 10 by 30 pool and am thinking on getting an intex sand filter pump what size you think is best or will I be OK with the 16 inch. I know they have smaller ones as well.
What do you suggest to do if your pool is already full and switching from stock pump to this new sand pump? I can’t figure out how to switch the pools intake part without a ton of water coming out.
I LOVE your videos! I have the exact same pool and just bought this pump. I'm a first time pool owner so your videos have been a godsend. I did get a new pool outlet with my pump, but not new inlets - can I use the ones that came with the original pump?
Thank you for all of the great information. Can you tell me why sand shoots out each time we turn on the pump? We backwashed and rinsed last night. Lots of sand settled on the pool floor this morning. We got the quikrete pool filter sand. It’s a 16 Intex sand pump.
High probability that you got sand in your main tube inside the filter. Generally, backwashing for a few minutes clears this out. See what your pressure is in the gauge. Also make sure any plunger valves or discharge ports are completely open.
Interesting question. I stagger all of the start times, BUT, they all overlap between 1600 and 1900 hours because that's my wife and I generally swim. It's kinda like swimming in a giant whirlpool. The caveat is that a float moves a little too quickly.
Firstly, fantastic review. Thank you. Did you need adapters to connect the hoses to the pool you have? I've seen a few reviews on Walmart about needing adapters. Thank you for this, we are looking for one right now for the exact pool you have. I'd love to have the 3000gph one too, the one that comes with this pool is just not good enough! Question. I need the piece you posted about last year to make your own pool heater by hooking up your water hose to the discharge. The amazon link you posted no longer works and I was hoping youd be so kind to post another link I am afraid I will buy the wrong piece. unfortunately the people at lowes werent much help for me. Valeria Holder If you are interested I set up a solar heating system last year with high quality water hoses with brass fittings in two 4x4 boxes with an old front window from my house and my old shower doors. Y off from my 12 inch intex sand pump. 200 ft of hose in each one. Wrapped my pool with 4 layers of 4 mill plastic to keep the heat in and a solar cover. Keep the the solar cover on when not in use. I will lose about 2 degrees and night. My pool will get up to 88 to 90 but like to keep it around 64 to 66. Old people like me like the water warm

Love the videos. Super helpful. I purchased my pump through Walmart. Was only $189 at the time of purchase a few weeks back. I was unable to locate #20 silica sand but did find quikrete pool filter sand. Has anyone used this before? It says 20/40 on the data sheet.
@@Pondiver Great video just going i to our 2nd weekend with our Intex 16×48 ultra xtr frame pool it came with the 2100 gph sand filter and pump uses 26lb of #20 sand roughly half of a 50lb bag seems to be doing good so far i do have a question about vacuums for these pools do you have any videos or reviews on these looking at tge intex or volt rechargeable vacuums or ryobi has one any suggestions? Yes the pools are hard to come by as well. Paid $1000 over retail To get one just this week. The shortage is a result of the pandemic none have been sent out of China. They only produce per summer. There will be no more this year
The little black cap on the outside of the discharge. I think it's some kind of aerotar? Is that suppose to be on or off? Is one better than the other?

I have the 16/48 coleman pool. I just purchased this pump have not recieved it yet. the coleman pool has 3 outlets , this pump says comes with 2 lines do I need to purchase any other adapters or do these lines hook up to the ports on the coleman pool? also do i still use the y adapter that goes to the B openings in the pool?
We have the same pool that you have and got the 16 inch sand filter pump, but we seem to be missing the plunger valve. Is this something we have to purchase separately?
HI! I was looking for a way to contact you quickly. We have a bestway 14x 48 and just got an intex crystal clear 14" sand filter. I know, a little strong, but listening to your videos and other websites, it seemed it will be ok for our pool. The only question I have right now as we unboxed it, is the hydro aeration nozzle that shoots the water out into the pool. The piece that goes through the wall looks huge, compared to the ones that came with the bestway. I don't see how this will work without cutting the hole and I don't think my husband is going to want to do that. Is it ok to put this pump and filter on with the existing jet nozzle that came with the pool?
I say that it is. The hydrology behind this method is that it will restrict the outgoing flow, therefore, greatly increasing the exiting pressure. Think of it as hooking a water hose to a fire hydrant.....just not that big. Keep in mind that restricting waterflow from an impeller pump does shorten the lifespan. Probably by a season or 2. Regardless, these pumps will outlive your pool.
Now does your setup came with a 0.59 hp pump or the 0.75 (3/4) hp pump? When I received mine I didn’t realize I got a 14in sand filter pump 0.59 hp than the actual 3/4 horse that was suppose to have with the 16in.
I just got the 16 for my intex 18ft. Replaced the 12 inch pump. Now i use the 12 inch to run through my solar boxes I built. I have two boxes 4x4 with 200 ft of black 5/8 water hoes in each one, with glass on top. It gets very very hot, and warms up the pool to around 88 to 90 on some days. On a average I keep it around 84 to 86. I ran a hose from my 12 inch pump over the the top of the pool to suck the water into the pump. I can not get all of the air out. Not much air, but it bugs me. (San Diego) That is my question ??????????
I'm on levelized billing, but I'm a nerd so I know that the 12 inch pump cost about 18 bucks a month. It also depends on your city, state, elevation, how much rain you've had and how long you run it.
Hi, dumb question... I have this same exact Sand Filter and exact same above ground pool. I set it up for it to run 6 hours and it has run well these last two months since I installed it. During a routine water test at my local pool shop, they told me I need to add a certain phosphate remover chemical and the instructions state that my Sand Filter pool pump needs to run straight for 48 hours. So now I need to change the number of hours for my filter to run. I tried and tried but I am not able to do it. Anyway, would you know how to change this hour setting? Thank You.....
I ordered a 16 in pump with the digital timer. They sent me the one without the digital timer. Is the digital timer that much better than the older model without?
Don't judge, but I didn't store my pump during the winter and it's super dirty. How do I clean it? Is the sand moldy and contaminated? Does it need to be replaced? Should I open it back up?

Great review. I h Ave a question, this is the first year I'm using a sand filter, I'm not sure what size of Intex filter I have but I don't have the side round basket filter on the side of mine like I see in all the videos I have watched. I wonder why?
@@dianabriggs3258 i bought one this week for my 16x48 off amazon for $18 its an intex skimmer it comes with everything even extra plastic mounts for using on the soft easy set pools i have the dual outlet strainers i just had to unscrew one of the covers and put the one on from kit that hose goes on from skimmer plug the other outlet with a top hat plug supplied gives more suction easy install no tools its the INTEX DELUXE POOL SKIMMER #2800E

Hey man what connector do you use to for these pumps? From the pump to pvc and are you using 2 inch? I have male thread to male thread adapter but I cannot find a female intex thread to anything pvc just those vacum ones.
One thing I want know how the hell can you modify the crappy digital switch on this pump, we get many power problems and keep having to set the pump is bloody annoying. Any ideas how I sort this, so I can use a wifi smart switch.
I use a wyze outdoor switch on mine. I just program what time I want it to turn on and off and it does it every time. No need to mess around with the buttons on the pump. I set the time on pump to 6 hours and both pump and my outdoor wireless switch work in sync with each other. Works for me.
@@zachary4225 But thing is once we have a power cut and in country we get loads, the pump sets back to nothing, meaning it doesn't come on, that's a really stupid design flaw. Ill have to look at setting it on a smart plug and seeing how it works on full power mode.
I called intex(before i buy),straight to hold ,eventually i hung up.google reviews say basically no customer sevice.sounds like they really don't have a customer service department, its a guy who doesn't answer the phone and calls intex once or twice a month to explain why customers are calling.lol.hate to go with this type of customer service but probably get it anyway
Hopefully it doesn't break because you'll never be able to get parts for it and will never be able to get ahold of customer service. But if you get lucky and get a hold of someone I hope you know Arabic
