Awsome vessel bro. I bought my 1st jonny boats bass 100. I purchased the Suzuki 2.5, before my boat. Even if I got a regular kayak I was going to side mount the 2.5 behind my seat. I also put the scotty outriggers and DIY'D a small 30lb thrust trolling Minn-kota off my bow. I've been 5 miles offshore on super calm day's. I fish a 900 acre freshwater lake, but wanted to test my stability. And motor in the ocean. She's amazing. I love all of our different setups. Stay safe my man!!
Dang dude yeah I hate it out there it’s so awful. Go up to mantua like 15 more minutes away. 👍 cool tho dude yeah I have a Mariner 4 as well maybe I’ll run into ya sometime 😂
Ethan's fishing and boating helpful tips thanks for the tips.. couldn't go with a 2 stroke since they no longer sell them anymore (unless it's a Chinese import like hangkai). I know I could've bought a used one but didn't want to deal with doing repairs in case something happened. Also no need to deal with mixing oil with a 4 stroke and better for the environment since it's not spitting out oil into the water.
actually 2 strokes don't put any more oil into the water than 4 strokes. the smoke goes through the water and into the air, not the water but they sure look and smell like they are doing damage!
Sweet deal on the boat dude! 2 strokes are lighter, but much much louder. This thing will never be a speed demon so it might as well be comfortable in every way. I bought the 3 for my son and honestly I’m highly, highly impressed. Thing is durable!
crosshair not sure of the long shaft is better for salt water but if I had a choice back when I bought my motor 2 years ago I would've opted for the long shaft since it's only $20 more than the short. It's a lot easier and cheaper to raise your transom than it is to extend your shaft.
Will my girlfriend and I be comfortable in this Mariner 4? and also, where did you get the Suzuki motor?? I was just going to get an electric trolling motor.. Thanks!
yes it's comfortable for 2 with fishing gear and coolers and such. 3 with light gear would be good too.. I got it at onlineoutboards.com. great company and fast shipping good luck!
MY BIGGEST QUESTION IS TO GET A MARINER 4 WITH A MINN-KOTA TROLLING MOTOR AND BATTERY, OR A GAS-POWERED MOTOR WITH A BUILT IN GAS TANK. IF YOU RUN FLAT OUT, WHICH ONE IS FASTER AND WHICH ONE RUN OUT FIRST?
Either batter or gas max you can do is 4-5mph with mariner. It wont get on plane with stock motor mount. Each has its pros. Gas you can run it all day with a 1 gallon gas can. Battery your limited and those batteries are a pain to carry. EM you can start right away and are silent. GM you have to pull start and are noisy. Good luck.
Like he said a gas motor you can run forever....as long as you have gas on hand, an electric you’re limited and those deep cycle batteries weigh a ton. I think it depends where you are going to use it. In my area there are Conservation area parks and none of them permit gas motors, only paddle or electric. I used to have a 16’ aluminum boat with a 25hp gas and bought an electric to troll but ended up using the gas motor all the time because I hated to handle the battery and hook up the electric motor whereas the gas motor was already mounted. I ended up selling the electric almost giving it away. Both have their uses.
Can you or have you already made a comparison video of the Mariner 4 and Excursion 5? Mostly interested in the dimensions. My buddy has the Seahawk 4 and I like the dimensions of it. I am leaning towards the Mariner 4 because it has a keel, but I am worried it will be too small.
M4 is perfect for 2 fishermen and roomy by yourself. So if you're mostly going to fish by yourself or with a buddy get the M4. Infltable keel and being able to use my gas motor without much mods on my M4 is a great benefit compared to the E5. E5 definitely had the space but the M4 is much better.
+bryangoggin good luck.. yeah you like the M4 way better than the E5.. I started off with the E5 and at first missed the extra space but I really didn't need it since I fish by myself alot.
Juancho Bolivar the mariner can hold up the motor better than the excursion. Excursion is a also a great boat but just couldn't handle the motor without major modifications.
Yeah did that. You need to put extra support on the bottom of the motor mount. I used a pvc pipe that goes across the bottom motor mount for extra support.
crosshair I'm assuming you have the M4? If so then you're good with a 3 gallon gas tank for all day use. You shouldn't need to use the motor in full throttle since it doesn't go that much faster compared to half. Plus half throttle is much more efficient. I bet you'll only end up using like half of that 3 gallon gas tank in 10 hours of use.
The older motor mounts used to say motor up to 50lbs. The problem is the 4 cycle motors have a huge weight difference between the 3hp and the 4hp. Older 2 cycle motors like Yamaha 4hp, or Evinrude 4 HP (just to name two models) are much lighter at around 42 lbs.
@@Piipzuke Friend and I are looking into how to mod it so the motor doesn't pull under the raft so much. The position of the plastic holes for the mount bars allows it too much of a range to dip in at a large angle to the raft, but it's also the design of the mount. The motor is too close to the rear of the boat.
8 horsepower? That sounds like it's too high for the mariner 4, but I could be wrong. It'll probably need an extra support so the motor doesn't dig in the water at a strong trim angle.
shafts is onky 15 inch. I guess you can put the clamps up a little but I would rather make sure the clamps are resting on the mount real good. I did raise the board up about an inch or 2. why do you ask?
3 max horsepower or 40 lbs max weight. However I tried it with a Mercury 3.5 hp four stroke (weighs 41 lbs) and the powerhead was barely above the water. I also tried a Johnson 4 hp (weighs 37 lbs) and the torque of the engine also dipped the powerhead quite low. I would go 35lbs or less. This Suzuki 2.5 is perfect, as is the Honda 2.3 or the multitude of 2 stroke outboards below 3 horsepower.
The engine mount will need major mods to handle a bigger engine. The older engine mount indicate motor up to 50lbs. I'm planning on glueing 4 additional hard points on the boat. 2 on top, and 2 on the bottom. The problem is too much flex from the pvc section. You can reduce the flex and stiffen the top two hard points by having them on a modified hard wood floor. Use steel pipe flanges and 3/4 black steel pipes. I've seen this mod and the guy stated it stiffened the mount by a huge factor.
Can you tell me approximatly which speed you reach with your 2.5 hp motor on mariner 4 ??? and do you know if the intex motor mount can fit on HydroForce voyager 1000 ?? Thanks a lot
