The kid in the beginning was eating tamarind. When Korbin said “Mangoes!”, it was tender coconut on the screen. :). The guy who was spinning the bread in the air was making Roomali Roti - a super thin, kerchief-like, soft, slightly chewy, unleavened bread made of refined flour.

That was a Tamarind (Imli) the boy was eating in the first scene. It brought back so many childhood memories..

This film is a remake of the 2011 malayalam film 'salt n pepper'. That film also have a title song showing different kinds of indian foods.

The small boy at the beginning was having a salted tamarind. Hawkers used to sell it outside our school all the time..90s kids in India would identify.

The meaning of the song basically says that this life is born to eat good and delicious food. They are describing the various foods available in different places too. The boy in the beginning of the song is eating raw tender tamarind. It’s so sweet and tangy at the same time. I was salivating the whole song thru 😋🤤

The item the school kid tastes that waters the mouth of everyone including the teacher is nothing but raw tamarind fruit. Just in case if you didn't know, tamarind tree's fruit would look like cluster bean but wider in size. When its raw it will be tender and edible as a whole including the outer skin which will give a distinct fruity slight bitter taste whilebits flesh that is the pulp will be as sour as a tamarind :). When it ripens the out skin becomes inedibly thick skinned shell. One has to crush the fruit in between two palms to get rid off the shell, remove the binding nerve like veins and eat its flesh for its slightly sweety sour taste. In rural india one could see tamarind tree dotted along the roads. Kid, on the way to their schools, which would be a walk of upto 1.5 miles would use stone as projectiles and reap a handful of tamarind raw and ripe fruits which they eat stealthly during recess, return walk to home and some "rowdy" defiant kids during the class period. This song's theme narrants that human life (pirappu in the language tamil means birth/life which is colloquially pronuounced as po-ra-pu) exist to taste good sumptuous food. This is title card song to set the stage that the pratogonist is a chef or rather gourmet of food. That is why you would see a montage of food, snacks preparation and eating in this song.
