1)We eat with hands because physically touching the food increases the salivation process in the mouth. Therefore making breakdown of carbohydrates easy. 2) we sit down and eat because we are in contact with the land which increase the positivity in our body. 3) we eat in banana leaf as it increases the taste of the food and is biodegradable. 4) the food of South India in bana leaf is such that it is a complete meal. It has proteins from dal (sambar, huli... Etc) and vegetables. Carbs from rice. Good fats from ghee and sweets(payasam, Sheeran.. Etc). Vitamins and minerals from vegetables. Curd aids in digestion. 5) everything is eaten in specific order. First sweet then rice and yellow dal(with lemon) then rice with sambar, then side rice(like lemon rice, puliogre), then agins u can eat rice with sambar or rasam. While eating all others you can also eat bhanji or any other side dish. Then u eat curd rice or buttermilk rice.

Even if her son is 50 years old and he comes to meet her she will feed him food with her own hand. And that experience hevenly because d person's heart is full of love. Here's some more technical stuff w.r.t eating on the banana leaf for you guys: The banana leaf is rich in antioxidants, which leech into the hot food served on it. There's an order in which we approach our food: 1. A very small portion of the dessert (usually payasam / kheer) is served at the bottom right corner of the leaf. You are supposed to start off your meal with this - the sweet helps activate your salivary glands. 2. The next step is to eat a small portion (just a couple of morsels) of hot rice mixed with ghee (clarified butter), salt (to taste) and dal. The ghee helps lubricate your gut, while the dal helps subdue the acid in your stomach. 3. Then you get on with the meal - the usual order is rice with sambar, then rice with rasam; you have a lot of side dishes like pickle, curry, chutney, papad / chips & veggies to go with it. 4. The dessert in full quantity is usually served after the rasam rice and before curd rice - this is to restrict your appetite and prevent overeating. 5. In the end you have curd rice - this is a coolant to your system and helps in digestion. Also to be noted is that you have curd rice for lunch and rice with buttermilk (diluted curd) for dinner, because curd is heavy and difficult to digest when you sleep. 6. Lastly, the role of salt: add water to the salt served on the top left corner of the leaf, and rinse your fingers in the salt water - this helps get rid of all the grease on your fingers. 7. End your meal with paan. @Rick: Paan isn't made using banana leaves. It is made using betel leaves. The filling in the paan is usually bits of arecanut / betelnut, sugar and a bit of limestone paste smeared on the leaves. This aids in digestion. And that's how you do justice a South Indian meal !!

One thing , when they say South of Vindhyas...it means South India.. Vindhyas are a mountain range which kind of divide our country into North and South. The South has been thus protected from foreign invasions to a great extent and is culturally distinct from the North , less influenced by foreign culture, genetic , culinary, social and other influences. So our cuisine is also distinct ...we are predominantly rice eaters and use a lot of coconut. The South Indian is generally more gentle , passive and conservative than the North Indian whose natural forceful nature can be attributed to having faced multitude invasions for centuries and are also more open and fun loving, especially Punjabi's than those south of the Vindhyas. Southern Indians and Bengalis are generally intellectual and have pursued and retained the culture of music, literature and classical dance to a larger extent...everything is not Bollywood or movies. We also have states like Maharashtra, the brave Maratha's who kept Muslim invasions at bay, Orissa .. and I can go on and on. A nd oh we are so so diverse but still united as a single Bharath...Bharath match ki jai.. Unfortunately movies like Slum dog only depict the negative aspect which is so greedily lapped pinny the world One more thing guy's...the video is giving the right information in a humorous and not sarcastic manner. We guy's have a habit of recognizing and highlighting funny things about ourselves, be it food, accents.( which is why the guy's narration was an exaggerated Tamil accent) even religion .It's all in good humour and no offence meant or taken.

In European restaurants they don't serve ketchup or chilli flakes etc, because you are supposed to eat what the chef prepared for you. You are not supposed to alter the food. Indian cuisine is complete opposite of that where you are served multiple things of different flavours and textures and it is upto you to mix and match and choose what to eat. It is true for something as simple as pani puri where atleast two different waters are given (sweet red and spicy green) to most elaborate south Indian meals where you have 4-50 dishes depending on the grandiose of the meal.

In india when you feed another person with your own hands it showing immense love towards that person. Indian mothers do it all the time to their children. Its a custom in Indian marriages that the marrying couple is asked to feed each other to create a bonding.

India has always had an organic, gentle way of living, which included cooking in natural and earthen wares, bathing with medicinal Ayurvedic elements, sleeping on mats placed on the floor, clothing as in cotton and muslin which were light, airy and easy. These are just some of the ways India's ancient civilization has been living. The Banana Tree is worshipped in Hindu tradition and Dharma, as each of its parts is used in Puja/worshipping. The Banana Leaf in particular has polyphenols which is reported to help fight cancer. When hot food is placed on a fresh, well washed banana leaf the Polyphenols are absorbed in the food. Besides, it gives a heavenly aroma to the food, either when eaten on it or when its wrapped around a food item, like Idli or Dosa. Its hygenic, gentle on the environment, saves water, doesnt harm trees, and easy to eat and dispose off. The Banana Leaf and other parts of the Banana Tree are also used in a number of Ayurvedic medicinal preparations. The Banana Leaf is water proof, and hence ideal for serving food. Every bit of India, its ancient Hindu culture, also called the Sanatan Dharma-- Sanatan meaning Eternal. Dharma- Righteousness-- is loaded with scientific reasons. Everything ancient practice has a deep meaning and scientific reason, which the world is waking up to only now. Thanks for a wonderful video!
