It's like watching a chess player. You carefully place your pieces, mentally drawing out your turn. Then when you find the best possible plan, you execute. It really is fascinating to watch, and hopefully I can pick some of it up!
@@soulmata I love the Eggman, but his misplays in this game could give someone a brain aneurysm. Your play was absolutely amazing, satisfied my craving for game play footage of this game without me wanting to scream at something lmao.
It always feels like the game makes the enemies move in such a way that it synergises with your options perfectly. Maybe the game's really well designed, maybe I'm just lucky.
first impressions: art of war paraphrase: sometimes the best attack is not attacking. you didn't use all of your moves, but that that was planned changed first level to impressions because you did it for most of the game
There's a lot of restraint in successful ITB games on Hard. You can't just think about the damage output you're doing, but also the opportunity cost of doing damage without killing or blocking that turn, what might replace the one you killed, and so many other factors. It's a really polished game.
Your gameplay is next level man. Thanks for posting this. I have about 1/3 of my hard mode medals completed and this video influenced me to jump back in.
OMG, you are a god in ITB. I must have sank hundreds of hours into this game since launch but I still learnt a lot from watching your perfect runs. Kudos to you! Time for me to get back to ITB!
Amazing. I just finished my first 4 island hard and it took me 5 hours. I always thought there's no way I am avoiding damage so I watched this and try to make my own moves, and you showed there's a right answer when I couldn't find it.
I'm glad you liked it. There isn't always a perfect solution, but there usually is. It's just a question of how willing/patient are you at finding it. I've thrown away a few games because I just sat at the screen for too long and got frustrated for sure.
Justin & Matt (the devs) really hit the nail on the head with ITB. I can't believe it hasn't sold ten times more copies than it has, it is so incredibly well put together. It would fit perfectly in a game study of "this is a borderline perfect game".
This was insane to watch, I’m just sitting here trying to figure out what I would do or how you are going to get out of the difficult situation you’re in currently. I keep getting blown away by some crazy smart moves I would have never even thought of!! Incredible to watch! I loved every second
I'm learning so much from this series! I love seeing all your genius moves. I used to never think about environmental effects (like forests that turn into fire and deserts that turn into smoke) but now I'm going to!
Rusting Hulks were done as practice on twitch: www.twitch.tv/soulmata As I actually snag Perfect victories I'll make a playlist specific for those. I was literally 1 grid damage away from a perfect victory with the Rusting Hulks... such a shame.
IMO blocking a Vek is always better than damaging a Vek, and sometimes better than killing one. You have to think about what might replace the one you killed, but aggressive blocking is crucial on Hard difficulty.
I thought that too, but I guess he never specifically said no grid damage. Ultimately I'm not sure, but aside from that one hit he still pretty much handled this level flawlessly.
Once you are in the hive mission, there's no more score to be lost from grid damage. Story-wise, the hive gets blown up by the bomb anyway, so all those pylons are going up no matter what. Letting some die for the cause seems reasonable.
Seems reasonable according to narrative, yes; however a core mechanic is the power grid. The developers specifically made critical failure depemdent on losing them, so making perfection dependent on them is also reasonable.
i only have 15 hours played, getting frustrated, decided to watch a good player who plays well. I think the biggest things i learned from this are 1 you can undo moves, but not attacks 2 you can do all your moves first before committing to any attacks. 3 blocking spawns is essential 4 you can repair your mechs as an action. 5 smoke bombs are clutch. 6 sometimes you have to ignore the psion to stop another enemy first. .
Despite being a 1-time use, Smoke is so good - because it's a hard CC with unlimited range that's also AoE. That is very powerful, and the AI is also then denied the same tiles it was on for a repeat attack. You have to use it wisely, but when you use it well, it can make or break the run.
I actually talked to my friend about doing a "race" sort of, where we start a new game and share the save, then go head to head in that game on split screen over twitch.
Really great run. Smoke Bomb seems way too overpowered given that it requires no Power Cores and can be used infinitely. Definitely a staple skill for crowd control.
Weapons are pretty spastic in their efficacy. You have things like Ice Generator that are just ridiculously OP, but the Fire Beam is borderline pointless. Many have niche uses, but there's not really a consistency.
If you look at its movement options at 9:07, you'll notice something: it's only offensive option is to attack the train while blocking it's ally spawn. It probably prioritizes allowing its ally to spawn over attacking the train
@@soulmata they are not mindless, they are simple-minded. That is why the don't attack rogue robots, they know that the foe of their foe is their friend. Also they have a general level of care that animals also share, they won't go out of their way to block an ally's way. Think of them being a hive mind but being unable to share information on the fly. They are the same being with different vessels, there is no reason to hurt yourself and all you know about this planet is that mechs = bad and no building = no mech. (also the rogue robot thing I said before)
i've been trying to do this for a while now and i just got to the last boss on the 4th island before 1 single fucking building got destroyed, i'm so mad rn :(
Ive bounced off this game multiple times over the years but im really determined to play through it since ive heard its great. Hopefully after watching this video some of that master-level skill will rub off on me lol.
Ha, thanks. There's a few really good players in the ITB discord you can join. The game actually isn't that hard once you focus on the mechanics. You can see my Mastering videos if you're interested on breaking it down: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LjqMDM4fwOU.html
Finally unlocked all the islands but ive been struggling. Meticulously watching this vid is helping me a lot! I have to watch it at 0.5 speed though. I also like pausing before your next move and thinking what mine would be to see how well they match.
Rift Walkers can be difficult to get a 30k with but they are an all around good balanced squad, so keep trying. If you find it too hard, Rusting Hulks I find to be even easier, and Blitzkrieg is probably the easiest of all.
Thanks, I finally did it! I got 30k on them walkers. Im still playing into the breach until now, clocking 400 hours on switch. Easily my top 3 tactical game all-time!
In the discord people have argued whether that counts, because it doesn't kill civilians or lower score, so some people consider it acceptable to use grid there defensively. FWIW, in my 30k videos, this and Zenith are the only ones where grid in the end stage is damaged.
Rift Walkers is probably about 1 in 6 to 1 in 8 attempts if you're starting with the stock pilot. If you start with an OP pilot you like Mafan you can make it maybe 1 in 4 times, I'm guessing.
@@soulmata Excuse me, let me explain. There is now an objective that says "Don't destroy this explosive Vek". Maybe it wasn't a thing back then? I noticed that some minor rules had been updated since then.
The grid in the last mission is a special case that doesn't impact your score at all. It could have been avoided, yes. There are no civilians in them, so you can lose as many as you want and you still get a perfect score, so long as you don't lose them all.
A few people called that one... honestly, I'm always fine losing grid in the hive mission since it doesn't impact score at all, but what annoys me is I totally could have avoided the grid loss there.
@@Nephalen If you aren't already, the ITB discord is a great resource for live tips. A lot of really good players there. Not a lot of streams for ITB though.
In this particular run I didn't, everything is completely a blank slate. However on successive runs you can bring 1 pilot back with you, and that pilot can have various things, including a reactor or damage boost.
I was gonna make fun of you cause a perfect run with this squad isn't even difficult... But then I saw you have a perfect run for the Hazardous Mechs, so I'm just gonna go watch that instead. That's way more impressive.
It does NOT say 0 grid damage. If you used the power of your human eyes you would quite clearly it says no grid RESISTS. There is no loss of score from grid damage in Hive. However, I've got literally dozens of no grid damage 30k and 40k videos if that somehow makes the entire run worthless. Try actually reading first before making stupid comments. And if none of that is good enough for you, go make your own videos.
@@soulmata chilled mate. I really appreciate your run, in fact I'm enjoying too. Those are some critical moment where you do great mate. Chil, Chill, Chill
@@soulmata it just said PERFECT, though. yes after a carefull look out it didnt said 0 GRID Damage, but 0 GRID RESIST LOL. Damn those Perfect title, and after watching all along for 1 hr just got me drowned on my own imagination.
I'm not as good at FTL, well I mean I can be good at it but since I spend most of the time paused, and the real Gs for FTL all play without pausing, it's not as fun to watch.
Mostly just practice! But also I have been into turn based strategy games since I was a child, and just always play them a lot. Lately I'm even teaching my daughter to play TBS too.
@@cesarrodriguez8893 Nope. It's exactly as it is supposed to be. This is the unmodded game on Hard difficulty. If you think the spawn rate is off, you should play more. How many Vek can appear each turn is statically set in the code and you can see all the details here: www.reddit.com/r/IntoTheBreach/comments/d88qsn/discussion_formulas_for_how_many_vek_emerge_from/
