Hello Jake. i need your input about different kinds of bamboo that people use to make xiao. First, is purple bamboo necessary just for beginner to intermediate level xiaos? and can you get a really high quality purple bamboo xiao? Secondndly: which material will produce a louder, more resonant sounding xiao, wood or bamboo?and finally, Should I get a golden bamboo xiao? and is it better than purple bamboo.? Thanks so much.

Purple bamboo is the standard. I actually don't have a lot of experience with other types. I can say that wood can be generally louder and cleaner but I prefer the resonance and tone of bamboo. All of the xiao that I source and sell are bamboo. I personally prefer purple bamboo but there are some nice other varieties as well. I have not played too many of them so it is hard to say, but I think it just comes down to preference. Purple bamboo is the standard though.
