I have a flute I bought in Beijing many years ago. It’s an odd creature. It’s a root end shakuhatchi in form, but with the fingering of a recorder (seven holes on top- on to the side, one bottom hole.) It’s a nice instrument and plays pretty easily, but I guess I’d have to ignore some holes to play as a 洞箫 😅

You are only the second person that has described this type of flute to me. I imagine you can play much the same as a dongxiao. However, there may be some unique fingering positions like half-covered holes and different patterns.
