LOL, I know exactly which pair you mean! I know this is an old post but it's worth warning people about Amazon. They've gotten worse in the last few years. It's completely out of control now. They're selling pointe shoes with the ribbons pre-sewn in them. I bought a few pairs out of curiosity and OMG the ribbons are around my heels instead of my instep. Then there's the sellers who are selling them to toddlers. TODDLERS. I can't tell you how many comments I've read like "My 4 year old granddaughter loves her new pointe shoes she's dancing around on her toes all day!11!" I cannot believe they're getting away with this nonsense. They're also using photos from Bloch and Capezio and no matter how often I report it, they're still there. It's so frustrating! The Bloch representative knew about it and just seemed resigned to these sellers using their photos to mislead customers. It's sad. On eBay, they have some shoes in pretty colors and I am fortunate enough to have the means to try them out so I did. I shop a lot on AliExpress, which is the Chinese equivalent of Amazon and they have them too. The only ones that I'd recommend are the ones from Sansha that only come in black and red. Grishko makes them in color too but it's a long wait. And the Sansha ones also have the pre-sewn ribbons around the heels. It's their Infanta model of shoe just in color. The multi-color ones are showing up on Amazon now and it's just another disaster waiting to happen. There are 2 types of the multi ones and both are not really real pointe shoes, they're for photo shoots or costumes at best.

annika kim Satin is quite a slippery material, though it looks quite nice to the eye. I started using canvas because it's easier for me to work in and it has a nice matte finish, perfect for stage as it looks quite clean. A hard floor you tap on should be okay to work on!!

That has to be frustrating! It sounds like you are doing all the correct things to become ready for pointe. You can certainly do exercises from the pre-pointe class at home (which should consist of releves on two feet, one foot, etc.). Has your new school given you feedback on why they think you are not ready? Is it foot strength, ankle strength, overall physical development/strength, or something else? I think communication with them is the most important thing. They should be able to tell you what you need to work on specifically to get ready.

+Natalie Taylor They should feel snug, but not to the point where there's any pain. Also, make sure if you wear toe pads that you always try on pointe shoes with the toe pads you will be wearing, because they can change sizing. It's a frustrating thing to get shoes and then start dancing in them, and feel like they don't fit! :-(

+Rachel Coffin You can make it work, but I definitely recommend starting to switch to transition tights once you begin pointe work. It will make it much easier if you need to tape your toes or adjust anything. So, don't feel like you have to get them immediately, but as you are buying new ones, I would consider switching.

Hopefully you found your shoes years ago! In general, Capezio is "start with street shoe size and go up". I usually have to go up at least 1 full size to accommodate the padding I like. In some models, I have to go up 1.5 sizes if the box tapers a lot. If you were looking for Capezios, there are some on eBay right now that are relatively cheap but they're final sale so you can't return them. You can always deshank them and make them demi-pointe shoes though!

+sannee like You can't go wrong with pink tights and a black leotard, but if the dress code isn't very strict you could wear black tights and any leotard. Yoga pants and a fitted shirt might work too if the dress code is open.

You can wear pretty much whatever you want. Usually they will put the little disposable stockings on you, because even if you are wearing tights, it's more sanitary if you don't choose the shoes. And because the shoes need to stay in perfection condition, you will usually only stand on flat and an easy releve up. So, you might want dance clothing on if you want to see the whole line in tights and a leotard, but it's definitely not required. Just wear shorts or pants you can roll up to see your pretty feet!

Claudia Derps Also make sure to put whatever form of padding you plan to wear in your shoe when you are trying them on. Many toe pads are so thick they change the fit of your shoe.

+Graci Asher Some teachers feel it's better to build up your feet without them. Less is better than more! You can always transition into using them later, but if you get used to them without it, you may find you prefer it!
