Archie was a bigot but was a good person. When the Jeffersons wanted to buy the house next to the Bunkers they tried to stop it and Archie was right with them. When the same people were going to put burning crosses on the Jefferson front yard Archie stopped it. The major difference between Archie and Alf was that Archie was good-hearted while Alf was just mean spirited.

In the same way that Billy the kid isn’t a really good comparison for Annie Oakley , I feel the same about Clark and Campbell . Campbell was a better singer and I think he wrote music right ? That’s a different animal entirely . Know what I mean ? And a songwriter that bumps into poet and artist both . Roy Clark was at the top of the list. He and Glenn Campbell had a guitar challenge one time that gave me goosebumps. Two virtuosos together that might not ever be seen again. Roy could also play the banjo and fiddle with equal skill.

He was using a flat pick for the most part. Towards the end, where it gets very 'plucky' he's not, but for the rest he is. That is what always amazes me about this particular clip. The sound of Spanish/flamenco music is usually done with 'fingerstyle' picking. I have played just enough guitar to know how difficult those runs are to do. Roy was a true virtuoso.
I am Gen X, and I know who Roy Clark is. Every Gen-Xer should know, unless they lived under a rock (I guess it's possible...). Roy was a regular on both Hee-Haw (With Buck Owens in "Pickin' and Grinnin'" segments) and Grand Ol' Opry in the 70s and 80s and 90s. He was the highest paid Country artist in the 70s and into the early 80s. He's a legend.
Roy Clark was live in concert just a few years before his passing when he gave his fans a night to remember! The Northwood of Minnesota came alive with music that memorable night! His fingers and hands were huge, not typically what you see from a virtuoso on tiny frets like a mandolin or the even smaller violin neck. I miss him and his incredible talent!

Felix is played by Tony Randall, and Oscar by Jack Klugman. Tony Randall's work starts around 1950 and he was born in 1920. Jack Klugman went on from this show to star in a drama/mystery about a medical examiner Quincy. Both have extensive bodies of work and were wonderful character actors. Carroll O'Connor, one of our finer actors, played Archie Bunker in All in the Family. It took a lot of intestinal fortitude for O'Connor to play the character of Bunker, Archie was a difficult character to take and my favorite memory of the show is when died in the wool racist Bunker wants a picture with Sammy Davis Jr. and Sammy kisses Archie on the cheek at the very last second before the picture is snapped. Pure TV gold.

Roy Clark is one of the most underrated, guitarist and singers of his era! Yes, I am old enough to know that he was on the genius and hilarious comedy show He Haw. Loved watching that show when I was a kid. Very intelligent comedy. You should check it out.

Its hilarious and speaks to the times and race relations in the 70's. Did you listen to "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly" by The Danish National Symphony Orchestra yet? If not its also a must. ok that's crazy cool. I remember Saturday nights at my grandmother's house getting cleaned up to go roller skating with my cousin. She always had HeeHaw on the television during that time frame. Roy Clark was the HeeHaw dude, so he was always my grandmother's entertainment to me. Years later I went on a vacation to Branson, Missouri. There was the Roy Clark Theater and he happened to be performing. I was pregnant at the time and those hills in Branson were a little rough. We were looking for a place to rest my aching body and I protested against watching Roy Clark in his theater because of my idea that he was lame grandma entertainment. Well crap. I had no idea he was so phenomenal. Wow.

It’s both. It’s a technique called hybrid picking. He has a pick in his thumb and index finger and then picks the other strings with his other 3 fingers. Then to do the tapping part he essentially quickly tucks the pick in his had to tap the strings. You need to watch him play 12th Street Rag. He plays extremely fast using at least six or seven different techniques. The amazing part is that he plays it all on a Fender Jazz Master or Jaguar on a totally clean setting meaning there is no room for error. No distortion to hide mistakes. The mastery is truly unbelievable.
