introducing the 2024 Whyte E-Lyte - mild and lightweight emtb 

The Rotwild rx375 has a regular Shimano EP8. It's marketed as a lightweight emtb. And I guess it makes sense, it's sub 20 kg and has a small battery. The disadvantage is of course the high battery consumption when riding that way. The Orbea Rise has an advantage since it can be had with a much bigger 540 Wh battery. The Rotwild has an easily detachable battery that can be swapped mid-ride. And I guess some/all? of these can be had with a range extender battery?

I haven't compared them directly. But my impression is the SX is a tad more silent. The 1.2 SL seems stronger and more generous at lower cadence. I could pedal at a cadence of 70, putting about 70 W into the pedals and the motor would output 300 W. It's a relaxing way of riding long climbs. And a battery consuming way. The SX isn't as generous at lower cadence. Pedaling at somewhere around 90 cadence, the SL 1.2 power falls off, while the SX very much comes to life. It's not relaxing pedaling 90-110 rpm everywhere, but it's very inspiring and fun. And it's not like the SX is hopeless below 90 rpm. It's still a bit of power down low compared to the more stingy Fazua Ride 60 and TQ HPR50 motors.

thanks for repying to this. I have thought the SX motor might suit me more than the 1.2 SL but maintaing high cadence wouldent be something I'd enjoy. So Levo gen 2 might be the best fit for me as its got the geo want.

I've just started working on my review of the Strive:ON CFR actually. It's an impressive bike and I was a bit surprised the first time I rode it. The geometry isn't that far off bikes such as the Santa Cruz Bullit and even the 2023 Orbea Wild. The Strive:ON could very well be the bike I enjoyed the most this year, and I guess a lighter carbon Orbea Wild could rival it. I find the slightly big size M of the Strive fits me at 181 cm very well. That's an upside for me personally, but it doesn't say anything about the bike objectively of course.

Yeah, I didn't expect the E-Lyte would have longer stays than the E-160. And the E-160 even has slightly shorter stays on the two smaller sizes. I was hoping for just a few mm shorter on the E-Lyte. But okay, 450 on a size L will probably be fine for me.

I asked Bosch about this when testing the motor. They said their current motors were designed before the Right to Repair act was passed. So, I guess the upcoming motors will be designed accordingly.

Yeah, it seams there's no "I" in Whyte Bykes.
