What's wrong with using 2xad200's the MagRing2 and the MagBox. Because you are using the fresnel heads it's a more powerful setup than the ad400 and the ad600.
I am guessing that if you took the silly diffuser off of the AD-400 (which is too small to do any actual softening- but will waste a LOT of the strobe output by scattering it into the sky/ground etc!) you could have created this dramatic effect directly by using the strobe at full power! MagMod has a place indoors, but at least here it is working against you outside!
A reflector would actually concentrate the light helping the AD 400 overpower the sun (I have done that many times!) - the MagMod plastic diffuser just wastes light/power and does nothing for the image. This video shows a complete lack of understanding of artificial lighting. Used indoors in a smallish room with relflective walls/ceilings this sort of modifier actually can help to disperse light and create a softer source... @@ared18t
It would have to be a crazy high powered LED light to shoot in these bright conditions so I don't think so - although I am not an expert on LED lighting
Wasn’t Magmod mission to be compact and away from big modifiers to make it easier for photographers to have “soft” light everywhere? I guess that idea wasn’t making enough money for them…
