It's not a cheap phone, that's true, but it is light in that we won't upsell you a new model every year, hope to service it for years to come, including a replaceable battery, and of course that we build all the software ourselves to ensure user-privacy throughout, which all included in the cost. Our scale plays a big factor. There is a chance the final retail price will change, so I appreciate the feedback, but there are hard realities in the cost as well. Thanks for checking it out regardless
@@thelightphoneII I believe in you guys; this is why I am here. But it is very disappointing to see such high price. Anyway, good luck, and keep it up.
@@juanp.5364they want to get stacked with money and only pretend they're doing a good thing lol. This phone manufacturing cost is easily under $100 so they will have 800% profit margin. Disgusting marketing tactic. If you want a rest from smartphones then buy a cheap "stupid" feature phone for $50 and you're set.
It also has a browser, youtube, games, data harvesting, an appstore where you can download tons of extra apps & advertisements, with a crappier camera, and virtually no internal storage compared with a 50mp camera on the light phone and 128gb of storage, no browser, no games, no data harvesting or ads.
It's evolving into a smart phone. It's like reliving the history: - You create a calling device - Add messages - Add calendar - Add Music - Add snake game or tetris - Add camera - Add color to screen - Add internet features (browser, email in a light non distractive modes like reading view, no adverts) - Add AI that let's you keep away from distractions
It won't. They said clearly on their website that they will never add internet browsing, social media, email, ads or anything that can be an infinite scroll.
eew. Not AI! But seriously you cant get by this without email and web browsing. Almost everything is becoming electronic. They need to make some sort of wallet app.
800$ is mental sorry but for such a ”simple” device I’d expect a way lower Price. I mean You’reasking people to change a habit of using a phone by making them pay a phone price. There’s android phones out there (Nothing phone) That is a Beast for like 200-500$
@@bombombaluAt this price point, I can picture the Light Phone being for elders, people who are wary of technology, campers who need the phone to last for days without a charge, audiophiles, and photographers. The problem is a $600 camera will outclass this phone. A $600 Walkman will outclass this phone. Phones under $300 have better battery life. It has 4 jobs, and it succeeds at 1, for $800. You can get the same effect this phone offers in marketing for $10 with a Moto G from Boost.
@@bombombalu that Target audience can just buy a feature phone (dumb phone) for like 50 dollars instead of spending on a light phone that does almost the same stuff
I love that this company doesn't categorically say no to modern tech but instead tried to see what is essential for a phone to be in ones life but not take over. It'd be hard for me to choose this but I really hope it goes well!
I agree with this. I pre-ordered one because the inclusion of USB-C charging (a modern standard), an NFC tag (for eventual wallet use), a camera (potentially for QR codes), a better GPS (self-explanatory), and 5G means this phone should last a long time and be useful in the modern world, without taking away from life.
But isnt it like you pay 800$ which is basically iphone 15 that you could use only for calls, messages and maps or maybe app for music and thats all? Its crazy that device that is so cut in software cost the same as full tech phone. Something doesnt add up
@@kuba199850 I hear you. The way I see it, other things that factor into the price is that the phone is private - it's not linked to Google or Apple, which is actually a huge benefit for some users. Because it doesn't have access to social media, you aren't giving your data to apps that then use it against you in the form of targeted marketing or selling your data. As someone who is trying to spend less and less time on my phone, the fact it isn't fully featured like a smartphone is a benefit. Yes, for some folks, "dumbing down" their smart phone is sufficient, but that will never address the privacy concerns that come from using a smartphone. And for me personally, I am always tempted to redownload more alluring apps on my phone. Having that option taken away from me (thus freeing up the willpower needed to resist it) is worth money to me. The last thing I factor into the price is that this is a small company that provides near constant updates to a device over many years. The LPII was initially released in 2017 and has been supported throughout that time. For a small team to do that costs money - and the up front cost of the device is makes that possible. All that said, 1) I bought the device at the pre-order price because it is more affordable and I knew that I'd get the device eventually no matter what, so might as well save some money and 2) it's ok if this device is never worth $800 to you. We all have to make our judgments on its value, which is at least somewhat subjective.
@@kuba199850the thing that doesn’t add up is the Apple’s gargantuan economy of scale and the cost of in-house software development… everyone hating on this thing doesn’t know how economics works lmao Plus you can keep repairing this thing for years but when your iPhone bricks you’re screwed
I understand the vision and implementation of the LPIII. I get it! A flashlight, a camera, a more responsive screen, on-and-on - it's a great direction and I encourage all those on the design team that they've done a fantastic job progressing the tech while remaining aligned to LP principles. That said, I adore my LPII so much I can't imagine "moving on" from it. My only wishlist item is personal ringtones, and that's a miniscule price to pay for such an enormous quality-of-life improvement the LPII has provided me. Much love!! I hope the LPIII sells like gangbusters!
TBH we love that you plan to keep your Light Phone II, we have no intentions to stop producing or supporting it anytime soon. And hopefully we can make custom ringtones and option too!
Yay! And possibly give the option to change background color and text color? I really appreciate the basic approach, but hope the business will give it a little pop in terms of color/design later down the road. I really think this is cute. I just don't see an artist, as shown in the image, settling for a black, dull phone. Artists are attracted to products that radiate life. Not lifelessness. Dullness. Not that any Artist wouldn't like a black phone, it's that not everyone wants only a black phone. Hope this was helpful. 🩵✨️✌️✨️🩷
I didn't realize how much I valued having a camera on my phone until we had to put our cat down. I was on a flip phone the last 2 years of her life, and I have many photos of her from my smartphone days prior (and my wife took many photos those last 2 years as well). It's the little things you don't even think about when wanting to ditch the smartphone until it's "too late." You finally bridged that gap. Instant pre-order for me! Thank you.
@@thelightphoneII it’s the inevitable part that comes with taking care of these little furry critters. Pia is a beauty ❤ Make sure to spoil that cat rotten 😄
Could not be more thrilled. So grateful for the Light team for the work they've put in to create devices like this and the LP2. Our world needs devices like these and companies like them. Pre-ordered!
Hey man if money is t object to you, can you offer me some work because I really need some freelance work ight now to get back on track in life to continue pursue my dream to make the world better, if you don't really actually need more materialistic stuffs to reach higher state of life, can you try to spend your financial power on other person instead? :-)
Yeah thank god these guys are doing this. This company just gives you a phone that is a tool that you can use and still live a mindful and present life!
It's a double-edged sword with cell phones and kids. You want to be able to keep track of them. But you also want them to be focused on their school work, too. I think this bridges this gap. They get to have a phone, without a lot of disturbances. I'm glad I'm not alone in this feeling.
Thanks so much to the light phone team. I've had the light phone 2 for 3 years and I can be fully focused on my young kids. The light phone 3 is adding everything I wanted, bigger phone, flashlight and camera. It's been pre ordered and I can't wait!
I want to try using one of these during work hours and then my regular phone off hours or maybe just wknds. Some time off would be nice. The few times ive been without a phone for a few days were so stress free.
I actually do it the other way around, I have my Iphone with me at my desk or when on location for work. And apart from that I have the Light Phone 2 with me.
I have used the Light Phone II as my daily driver for over a year now, and it seems like the updates made for the Light Phone III are a natural progression without abandoning your vision. It appears that the largest change is the addition of the camera which, when used as a tool, should still allow the overall experience to be freeing. I am a photographer and videographer by trade, and disconnecting from the digital world at the end of the day is a necessity for me. Thank you for what you do.
Do anybody want to accept Jesus Christ as your Savior he want to give you love and happiness and calmness and salvation and eternal life if you confess your sins
When you say, daily driver, does this allow Google Maps? Might be thinking of "daily driver" here. If so, my apologies. 😅 By using the camera as a tool, did you like the overall functionality of the camera part, from a photographer standpoint? Is that why you've liked using this phone for over a year?
I just pre-ordered mine! I am so excited!! I have been trying a lot of dumbphones but the light phone was always one of my favorites. This one appears to solve every issue I had with the LPII. I can't wait!!
I've been using the LPII since the beginning of 2020 and just got my second model. This LPIII gives me the confidence that I can keep going light for many more years to come -- thank you guys, and bravo!
I feel similarly... I have been feeling the friction with the LP2 in a few "bad" ways - taking me out of experiences rather than allowing me to immerse myself in them - but this device seems like it should address a lot of those sources of friction, given some more development time...
Pre-order is in ♥ I have had the Light Phone two for almost 6 months now as my one and only cell phone and I cannot imagine going back to any smart phone. That said, I am absolutely thrilled to be getting a phone from y'all with a camera and the ability to send and receive pics. That is one thing I've truly missed. This phone is gonna take the world by storm, I can feel it.
doubtful, most of us enjoy having all the worlds information at our fingertips. i dont care about social media so smart phones dont ruin my life. What would, is not having anything im curious about in the moment satisfied with instant, and infinite information on any topic i need to know about or am curious about.
@@xpurpled Not having that information is part of what made conversations so much fun back in the day though because you could speculate the answers with friends and family and enjoy conversing and being with those around you. Cannot imagine dropping $800 plus tax on something that’s severely hampered in multiple ways… like I get that the lack of features itself IS a feature to some people. I really do. But they’re charging the same price as the latest iPhone for something that’s objectively worse in so many ways. Why not grab a decent dumb phone for like $100? This phone isn’t going to take the world by storm because the average person doesn’t want to pay more for less, full stop. I’m sorry, but this phone seems like it’s being marketed to “rich hipsters,” as another commenter said. Cool phone, awful price point.

Awesome! I love the camera idea because I always wanted one on my LP2! I like the larger size and I love the concept of the product! I’m so excited for the company to keep making this phone better while keeping the original idea in mind and in place. Thank you light phone co.!
I've grown used to using my Light Phone II + Lomo camera combo, but I may have to pre-order this anyway just to be on the journey. As long as it doesn't have social media then I'll be golden.
You can uninstall social media from a normal smartphone too, and you have the option to keep it for times when you really need it. Being unable to access the internet and certain apps seems like the worst thing.
I've been using my Light Phone II as my one and only for over two years now. I've been enjoying the clean, functional minimalism and the III looks like a progression without moving away from the reason I use a Lightphone. I'm interested.
I love the e-ink screen but the responsiveness of the OLED for typing is a game changer. That is the main reason I'm not using the LP2 anymore. Pre-ordered!!!! Looks great.

The true use of this phone to me is for those that have Mental health disorders that make them struggle to have little to no Self-control But other then that, It feels weird to replace one piece of technology with another piece of technology that's arguably much more expensive and lacking power/features When you could possibly take that 800$, go to a very good therapist/psychologist/psychotherapist and let them unpack the problems in your life, making you a much more disciplined and healthier person overall

Just pre ordered. I've been consistently thinking about getting a dumb phone over the past six months, and I do hope some additional features make it onto this one. I would love to stream music, which helps me focus on things outside of my phone, and pay for things using nfc for example. I do not want a web browser or the constant distractions that come with my current device, as I have a tech addictive personality and cannot control myself when these kinds of things are in my pocket. You can't compare it. That's the same price as a brand new iPhone 15, aka, the hotel room service. Why is camping costing the same as room service? Second, you have a bunch of no-name brands, selling knockoff smartphones for $40 that run circles around this thing. They sell nowhere near what Samsung or Apple do. A smartphone with 90% of its functionalities taken away? Of course it should be much more cheaper the end price. The only 2 differences between this, and a Nokia flip phone, is that one is touchscreen, and the other is $40, don't be fooled.
Just ordered my Light Phone 3!! For all the people looking at the price I would only say that I've had my LP2 for 4 years and the device has literally gotten better every single year. The LP team keeps in contact with its customers, makes frequent updates improving the phones functionality, and adds tools that have made it more usable in today's world. I have no doubt that the Light Phone company has paved the way for a true alternative to the modern smart phone. Considering how many improvements have been made in the LP2 I can only imagine the LP3 will follow suit. You will get an amazingly modern phone in the LP3 and it will only keep getting better and better over time, which you can never say about other devices. Congratulations to the Light Phone team!

LMAO you got eaten by their marketing. This phone is manufactured under $200, they're selling it for $800. 400% profit margin, think about that number for a bit. This whole thing is a ripoff. If you want a long lasting phone that does not have smartphone features then buy any of the plethora of cheap feature phones which are around $50 and have replaceable batteries as well as full week battery life .
Great design! I want it to be rolled out in Japan, only the map and line apps should work, the days of social networking are over, I need a phone with a monochrome screen that lasts a long time. We need a phone with a monochrome screen that will last a long time.
Lovely! Good time to embrace till the light 3 release 🤩 I sold mine today in Germany for 300€ There are so much people who want this device! Even when the light phone III is out because the light phone II has the e-ink screen ❤️
Honestly what this phone needs to be is an Android phone that has its own, curated, app store instead of the Play Store. This app store would have stuff like Google Maps, Spotify, WhatsApp (and their alternatives) but nothing else. It would then have its own very stripped down custom launcher. Then have it cost about $200. Something like this does not need high end hardware so $200 should definitely be achievable.
The replacable battery is a HUGE selling point - listen up bad guys Apple - Samsung - Google - we want replaceable batteries - way to go Light Phone Team
I’ve seen some complaints about the $800 launch price of the Light Phone III but when you consider the lower volumes they will sell compared to a similarly specced Android phone, and the other cost associated with marketing and operations, I bet $400 is in the ballpark of what it cost to produce a Light Phone III. They're also not subsidizing this phone with paid services, pre-installed apps, and data collection. Something like a 200% markup is in line with the rest of the industry. I’m leaning towards getting in on the pre-order to save some money and I hope a lot of other people do as well. And , no, I'm not on Light's payroll. But I have eyeballed the Light Phone II for a long time and Light has addressed the roadblocks that kept me from buying that phone.
What's the point of this phone when you can buy a feature phone for $50 that also doesn't have any distracting features and on top of that has full week battery life compared to 1 day of this nonsensical device.
@@damara2268 Name a phone that you think competes with the Light Phone III on price and features. Having a basic grasp of parts costs I’m certain there’s not a phone on the market with a 50MP camera, a 1080x1240 AMOKD display, and a processor that can drive both in an aluminum enclosure for $50.
I love the design so much, it's small, compact, fit perfectly in your palm for single hand use and it has a lot of fun buttons that you can play with. The UI is perfect for anyone that love simplicity. Sadly it's not for me. With that regular price, I just prefer fully functional regular android device. I know the idea this kind of device exist is because some people need it to battling their addiction to social media and whatnot, or just want a simple basic phone that can do basic task they need. But for me, becoming minimalist doesn't mean I have to be limited. One small device that can fulfill all my need is something that I want. But, man, this Light Phone III design is really tempting, not gonna lie it's beautiful.
I ain't spending 400 bucks for a brick phone nuh uh best i go only 100 tops. Aesthetic be damned, cheap phones have all the features we dont even need and i can shut them off for a better price than this 400 'simple' crap.
Please introduce this in other regions as well. Great concept and amazing form factor. Also, I hope the messages tool has RCS built in. In case you plan to launch in India, do offer UPI payment transfers since its quite essential here. All the best to the entire team at Light.
I love the concept. The problem that arises for me is that I travel full-time. I need the confidence that I can show up in any country in the world and put any sim card on my phone, and the light phone is pretty limited in terms of carriers. If it wasn't for that, I would be sold.
Like the industrial look of the phone. Very cool. Curious about the battery life. Would be interested to see them post up potential battery life results. Look forward to seeing more demo uses before I place my pre-order.
