I like the option of the dining are not having to be integrated with the lounge area im this sizeI.I also think a 2 room stateroom configuration can be ideal for a single owner/operator as a live aboard.
Wow! I love the separate aft cockpit idea. Preferably, with a steering station...and trolling capability for fishing. But 59 feet is a bit much for me. I'd love to see a 40 foot version. Or bring back the 35... Beautiful yacht, Nordhavn. I look forward to seeing it in BC's coastal waters.
I've never owned a boat /yacht over 18 foot long so pardon my question. You talk about the vents for the engine compartment being reversible in case of water spray coming over the side. My question is. Are the fans set up to change direction automatically based on water detection. Or are you assuming the operator of the craft is going to know when the ventilation system being over saturated with water?
It's certainly a nice boat, but I'm wondering about access to and capacity of the lazarette. It seems that the sunken cockpit rather seriously impinges on that space. I also think Nordhavn is mistaken about how often owners of this boat will want to keep her running overnight. If she averages 15 knots, which is probably even a bit high, she can only make about 350 nm per 24 hours. So you'd be running overnight if you were going that far or farther. A run from NJ to Florida would require three "overnights". Even a run from the East Coast of the US to Bermuda would require two "overnights". Of course, you could run only 200 nm per day on a coastal run, but that would involve a lot of extra time getting to your destination. I mention this because it calls into question Nordhavn's decision not to have a separate pilothouse on this boat, where night watches can be done more comfortably and efficiently. Boats with similar "mission profiles" from Fleming and Nordic Tugs have separate pilot houses. I think Nordhavn goofed here.
+Jeff Puha The piloting area looks pretty comfy.. but I suppose if people are wide awake and in the salon living area past daylight hours. Could usually get fresh air up top.
+Jeff Puha Also as a family/couples/partly fishing oriented boat. Its good to keep the helm at a close vicinity imo. She's distance capable, along with keeping thing close.
Just because you’re going that far (or further) doesn’t mean you have to be running 24/7. Like he said, this will be primarily a couple running the boat. If they are going long distance, they will likely anchor or pull into a marina overnight
