About the session
In a world where behaviour modification has been taking the lead in schools, treatment centres, and residential setting... I hope to introduce listeners to a different approach; using a secure relationships to help children increase self esteem and emotion regulation skills. This presentation will go through the history of Circle of Security, the basic concepts, and how it can used to support children struggling in school and daycare setting.
About Jamie
Jamie started her career as a Child and Youth Worker, working for Children's Aid Society. She loved the time spent working in the Foster Homes supporting children who were placed due to parent abandonment. However, she quickly began to see that the behaviour modification approached used to increase positive behaviours was not what these children needed at all. What they needed was connection and secure attachment. Jamie started to look into Play Therapy and Theraplay as tools to support the children I worked with. She gained training in Play Therapy and Theraplay and moved into working with children in treatment settings. Using play as a way to help children express feelings and learn self regulations, seemed to have great benefits. But there was still something that seemed missing for these children... secure attachment. It does not seem to matter how many tools you put in place for teaching self regulation if a child does not have secure relationships they will struggle to develop health self- regulation. A few years ago, Jamie was trained in Circle of Security and I feel the missing link in supporting children and families has been found. Circle of Security has not only supported my career growth but also my life as a mom. Jamie is a strong advocate for Circle of Security and enjoy sharing experiences and successes in group facilitation with others.
