Before watching the presentation I didn't know much about HTML or Webpage design. After the presentation suddenly I can write/read HTML webpage (Ofcourse with limited capacity - fair enough for a beginner like me ). You deserve credit ELi, thinking to watch all your presentation. Thanks.
Hey guys, this is a BEGINNER INTRO level vid. Says it right up there in the description. If you already KNOW HTML then what the the heck are you doing here shitting all over a beginner's vid for from a guy who has helped HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of guys like me learn some cool stuff??!! Go make your own PERFECT vid then to help us! Otherwise if you got a better, or alternative idea or way of doing something, instead of smashing Eli, why don't you comment on THAT instead. Thank you.
lol the guys talking shit are jealous cuz this guy can actually COMMUNICATE and put into words the things in his brain while a lot of other computer nerds cannot at all :)
i can not express all the 'thank you' i have inside, and don't know what you believe but would say THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS YOU, for you have touch our life with your class and may GOD BLESS. THANK YOU.
Eli Thanks alot man. This helped me alot because I cant find anything online to teach me html exept this. Im the kind of guy that needs to know WHY something does this and in most videos they dont even say what html was used for. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU.
+Emerson Mantuidi yeah he explains well, but I don't see how that matters since you can't see what he's writing on the board. I really believe all you dumbasses liking this shit watched it for about 5 minutes.
Just a heads-up; this video is out-of-date, as one should not be using attributes such as "align" and "border" in HTML. Both of these were deprecated with HTML 4.01 and rendered obsolete in HTML5. Anything visual should be achieved with CSS instead.
Wow...this has got to be the coolest tutorial I have come across, yet! I love the way you stress how simple it is and how you repeat things and slow down. I wish my high school teachers new this kind of thing. *grrr* I came to your RU-vid video, because I couldn't figure out how to create non-messy link in comment boxes. Since I write a lot and blog; and since in order to do that well, and get people to come to my blog - I need to be able to communicate with other bloggers and comment-ors. I have a lot that I want to be able to share, and knowing HTML may just help me do that. I'm definitely checking out your other videos; and if they are anything like this one - your free, easygoing, but extremely rational approach with a bit of humor thrown in for good measure - then I'm sure I'll love em'...even I'm not interested in the particular topic. And you might want to know that you've inspired me and given me some direction for the future, when I'll want to be hosting my own RU-vid videos. Thanks so much and keep up the great work!
You, Sir, Seriously, most definitely ROCK. I have add i mean i have every symptom bad . Your videos are the only videos i not only watch minute for minute , but i actually enjoy and learn the first time . I'm sure youre tryin to get paid we all must but you really put alot into every frame its like youre talking to us face to face not like others who start to drag or zip through as if its a chore . Dude i can write an seo article on all the ways ur videos are dope but im just gonna say if u ever wonder if u really matter or make a difference . theres no way id be doin half the shizz i do today if it were not for u my man . Thank You
Thank yoy so much Eli!!! I came across your first video on Programming and then went into this one. Before I found you I knew absolutely not the first thing about coding and programming. But your class is so informative. I took awesome notes. The way you explain makes it so easy for me to retain the information. Thank you so much I hope you continue with this!!!
Glad to hear it. You should probably try out PHP after you learn HTML. C++ is a HUGE step up from HTML... PHP Would be a bit more manageable for most people as a first real language...
Eli, your struggle with a board and erasing charcoal from it is adorable! I love your classes, their simplicity and thoroughness. They are great and they are helping me to understand more complicated learning materials. I appreciate your time, efforts and expertise. Tx!!!
Eli.. U're such a greate tutor. I've been following you for about 7yrs now... Am more grateful. A+, N+, MCSA & MCSE.. your videos made them simple for me and now am following the HTML video. Bless you buddy.
You must be the greatest computer teacher on youtube! Seriously, even though this video maybe be outdated just a little bit, it is very helpful. I just started learning about computer coding and plan to watch more of your videos. Thank you!!
i always wanted to learn to write code, I had no idea where to start, after jumping from tutorial to tutorial I came across this one. its one the best tutorials on the basics of HTML on RU-vid. everything is explained so well that it's really easy for beginners to understand. Thank you Eli, keep up the great work 👍
Great presentation! Thanks so much...I will now hire a professional to write code for me because...THIS STUFF IS LIKE LISTENING TO CHINESE for us old guys...
Thanks man for the great efforts. Will definitely tell my friends about your awesome channel and website. 1:Please make a video teaching CSS or Jaca Script.2: I live in Seattle. Have no degrees at all in Computer. My only degree is Master's in Archaeology. Do you think I can get a job without having a degree? Thanks bro and keep up the great work
Great tutorial! Just the title is a littlebit misleading, since writing HTML tag is not programming, it's just text that a browser interprets to graphics.
It is programming. Programming is just problem solving. It doesn't matter if gets interpreted, python gets interpreted and it is still a programming language.
Hahaha... that's the thing I thought first time. And every time I watch this video. A prisoner or a hostage is teaching us. But he is way of teaching is really nice. Excellent way of explanation.
1:31:00 If you have two separate links in your code, how do you tell each link to open in its own seperate new tab. When I click link 1 it opens in a new tab, but when I click link 2 , it refreshes the new tab opened by link 1.
OK so I have an image hyperlink in my web page. The codes I have below the hyperlinked image oddly enough also turns into a hyperlink. how do I get it to stop leaking to the bottom code? and I have to web pages that I want to open in separate tabs, when I click my Text hyperlink it goes to a new tab, and when I click the picture hyperlink it just replaces the same tab that the text hyperlink opened. How do I get them both to open separate tabs?
If anyone is interested if this is a good video. Everything he talked about in this one video. Took an ENTIRE Semester to go through in school. This is a fantastic video. Although he didnt talk about But thats okay
It's really funny, Eli. A lot of people make fun of your videos, as if you're in the film/photography industry, or perhaps they could tell you that you should get a chalkboard, because your board looks just as dirty when you erase it. BUT THAT'S NOT WHAT MATTERS! You're a wonderful teacher, and you teach COMPUTER SCIENCE/IT! That's what you're good at, and that's why you have the following that you do. Thanks for helping me to learn the basics and develop such a basis that I'm at the top of my class today. You're great!
Without having watched the video: HTML is _not_ a programming language. You can not create programs with HTML. It is a markup language. HTML is not able to implement any program logic or computation. It's only a system to annotate documents.
i watched a few minutes and he keeps talking about "html programs" xd I didn't know that guy on youtube so i tried out 1 vid or 2, but i can't take him seriously after that html programming stuff
I used "text edit" for the Mac. I believe it is the equivalent of word pad for windows. When I save it as an html file, it does it successfully, but I see the words when I open it up in safari. Anyone know if there is another equivalent for Mac that I'm unaware of?
this may be stupid question ... but is it all with American orthography? If I were to spell center as "centre" as we do here in UK, would that affect the html?
I'm definitely going to watch the rest of this video later in the week. Thanks so much for posting. I'm a complete novice and this is the first video I've come across that breaks things down into layman's terms for the technological newbie. Thanks again.
Html is not programming simply Marking up the page with tags. The tags in HTML are like place holders for your content or yours site HELLO WORLD will out put a big header. As for programming is much more complex with Conditional statements/ Loops/ Algorithms / Functions/ reserved syntax's and functions withing the programming language and databases i learn xhtml and html5 withing 2 weeks. Programming is not impossible to learn but will take some time to get down and be able to write programs or scripts that will work and process perhaps data or functions. Message me if you would like to learn I will be making tutorials on anything you like
Peter Jeremiah tell me about it bro. I just started learning coding less than week ago and almost fluent in xhtml and html... if programming is this easy i'll be on top within a month - but of course its not!
Yeah every starter programmer gets that problem knowing something and not been able to put it together to do something I sure crack my head to figure it out and the videos are been work on but to answer your question you have to figure how to attach what you learn and put it together or go on to google and find out how to created what you want and if they dont have it go and figure out what pieces you might need like registering a use you need DB connections and tables and then a way to store info and get it out with php or perl. think of it like this i built a car no one knows how to do it then i die so only a handful of people learn from me how to build it you go and look for the instructions with you learning the language you can understand the code instructions the present after that you copy their code and modified it later when you feel like hey that guy uses to much code i can reduce that then you do it its about following instructions and been able to understand them and modified them later because all honesty no one can just learn the basics and put together a house or a program you must look at the instructions from what ever person you can then you can built it the same and later make it better
Learning HTML was fairly easy. It's not really regarded as programming. 'Horray, I can make the web page background red!' I tried learning java (I think it was). It was much more difficult to learn.
Please don't call it a programming language. As a computer guy, you should know that HTML contains no variables, or looping constructs. It is as posted a markup language, not a programming language.
oblivionfan01 Sure I'll get flack for it, this is RU-vid after all, but even free education should be correct, and high quality. Using improper terminology leads to poor results and poor practices. Basically it means sloppy or incorrect work will end up being created.
***** Because you have to hard type literally everything you want on your site. Images, links, basic paragraphs. And you have to do it for every page. Your spelling and routing(routing is what I call the use of quotation marks to set rules or destinations for tags) must be perfect. If something is misspelled or out of place your page won't show up properly if at all. Not to mention navigating a folder in NotePad can get quite annoying at times. Imagine coding a site site like Wal-Mart.com in NotePad. It would probably take months to finish the basic HTML on it.(go to Walmart.com and hit f12 it will bring up the html for you to see if you don't believe me) Let's not get started on the CSS that makes it look pretty or the JavaScript and Flash it uses to actually function. Programs like DreamWeaver plug in links for you should you save what you want to be linked correctly and the split screen feature is a life saver, you can code on one screen and your code will show up as if it were on the web on the other screen. It makes it easy to catch mistakes No need to save, close, and open constantly as Eli does here. It also makes certain tags for you. Dreamweaver and programs like it just make a Web Designer's life much easier.
Question eli how do i insert a file in my html page..i been looking for a long time and yet cant get a right answer ..i saw that you inserted a pic file and thats the same thing im trying to do but with a doc.pdf or exe file ...how do i do this please help meeee!!!
What about if the image is in a folder thats on the same level as the folder the webpage is in. Like on mac the Pictures folder and Documents folder are on the same level?
Almost the perfect presentation for a HTML lesson for beginners. Why almost? Your board-space mismanagement; extremely thoughtless and inconsiderate for your viewers. Tip1: As the top of your board is constantly out of view, make a 'mark' that indicates your camera 'upper' range so you can stay with in it. Tip2: For goodness sake start your work at the left side of the board! Why the love-affair with the confined area of the right side!!! For such a (obviously)smart man, it's extremely confusing why you work like that. Board-space management and layout is a critical part of Teacher-training, as is clean, clear writing. When a teacher/trainer/presenter scribbles, it is considered the information is not important. However, your knowledge, personal way of engagement, speaking to your audience is fantastic, and I will subscribe. Please take heed of the tips.
Wow this is great! Just what I need. In my work as a CNC machinest, we are becoming more exposed to new forms of programming machines, not just G code. Learning about how big the world of programming is opens up new possibilities. Thank you for doing these videos.
Hi Eli, I have a question. Do you have any videos that explain how to make your website auto fit to diffrent size monitors and mobile devices? Thanks Kory
I have tried align command in safari but it didn't work later i have seen in the web and tried style="text-align:center" but even it didn't work so could you please help me
HTML is essentially the easiest language you'll find yourself using/learning. It's most complicated features lie in how it's incorporated with other languages (most commonly JavaScript and CSS). However, for the most basic form of static webpage, as well as general information, it's a great second stop as to where you want to start learning to code. Not to mention a lot of time this is all you're going to find on places like Tor, and it's completely necessary to know if you're trying to get into "hacking".
Gregory Anderson The doctype is still required, otherwise the browser goes into "quirks mode" where none of the features of the last 15 years work right.
+exploitday did I direct my confusion towards you or the imbecile who though HTML wasn't a programming language? No, I definitely was directing my comment at the meme-addicted prepubescent asshat that thinks anything and everything on the internet is attempting to directly offend him.
Eli is a great guy, spending his time just to help other people. I am going to try to aim to be a Coder and a web designer, I honestly am going to watch all of this video, at 10:15 only :3! Thank you Eli.
Love it,very helpful! I don't understand when my lecturer teach, it's like a padlock is on my brain when i go to his class. But you did a great job in helping me to understand! You have a natural gift!!!
Genius....Bright Guy. Simple but to the point. Although various things have changed but I loved it and would recommend it to anyone who wants to learn HTML. Bravo!!! Eli. Thanks man and stay blessed. Cheers!!!!
Hi Eli, Everytime I start a website from scratch, there is always a gap from the top to the first div. How do I have the body or the first div stick to the top?
Has anyone tried to do this on a Mac? I put in the hdml, head, body and their closings but when I saved it and opened it on the web I saw all of the code that I shouldn't see. It was like my Mac was refusing to read the code I put into it. Is it a problem with OS X Yosemite or is it just the way Mac's run?
Depending what text editor on OSX you are using, the editor may add a hidden file extension, such as .txt. Right-click on on the file and choose Get Info to see the full name of the file. Also, it could just be a typo in your comment, but it's not .
Eli im just 20 or so minutes in and ive learned more then i did in Tech class in Jr. High. Im 27 and just getting into Web Dev. thank you for very informative lessons. you sir kick ass.
Absolutely amazing!! I just created my first html website. lol I always thought I'd be too stupid. I been trying to understand C++ language and I'm reading a book on JavaScript and it's all so out there for me. You made it possible for me to finally have a notion of what all this is and how it comes into play. Thanks you saved me a couple hundred bucks from taking a college course lol. Im excited!!
One of the best computer instructor on the web, so clear explanation on every topics and amazing wrap up skill on each topic he started. I am going through all of your videos. Liked it so much!!! Thanks Elithe, not only I am so grateful for your work, the whole world!! Believe me!! 5 STAR out of 5!!!
I love the arena of this industry and I guess that it's among the more useful techniques for any internet marketing business. I have really appreciated your video, therefore; continue producing videos upon this matter!
OHH man you such a genius.i have watched most of your videos and am just wondering now where you learnt that stuff.thank you man i have turned to you for computer knowledge
You've gotta love the critics! I find all you videos VERY informative and spot on the mark. I love your professional approach re:- attention to sound quality, professional lighting, and production, accurate and informative information. I believe your content is spot on! I can't recall the source but I have a saying that constantly echoes in my head when I get frustrated dealing with people who can't think. "Don't try to teach HOGS how to sing! It will frustrate YOU, and it just irritates the hell out of the HOGS" Please don't worry about the "hogs", the rest of us really appreciate the time and effort you put in to make these videos. To all you negative critics...... If you know so much more....... Put up a video of your own (that will be SO........ much better.....or shut up!
Thank you so much for this wonderful class on HTML. very clearly taught and seems very easy too. Memorising is key to writing codes and practice, practice! Eli's class highly recommended! keep it up ! Eli. Thks again.
hi. i've created a static site and want to add some dynamic pages that reference data from a table (whether google doc or SQL i'm not sure yet). i've never done this and I'd love to get some insight. any thoughts? btw- i'm not a strong coder... it's not my primary focus by any stretch. so please be gentle in your response :) thanks!
