This is so great. How about the protein needs for a older adult whose BMI is 40, has 7.5% wt loss in the last 2 months? I am thinking to use adjust body wt [IBW + 0.4 (ABW- IBW)]*(1 .0-1.2)g/kg. Does than make sense? Assume the pt doesn't have wound, kidney or liver disease.
I generally don’t use ideal body weight in my practice. This sounds like a real patient, so I don’t feel comfortable giving recommendations. But if it was me doing the assessment, the protein recommendations would be based on actual body weight and would almost certainly be >1 g/kg.
@@clinicalnutritionuniversity Thank you very much. This is a case study I was given 🙂 I don't like IBW neither! It seems very low body wt. The pt was obese III. That why I was thinking to use Adjust body wt instead of ABW.
