Inveraray and District Pipe Band were placed second in the Grade One Scottish Championship competition. However, the band won the 2023 Grade One Scottish Drumming Championship following the discovery of a transposition error in the recording of the drumming rankiungs

Genius ensemble. The world's will be a tough one to judge. Both inv and Fmm peaking at the right time.

I love this band. I like the break at 5:04 too. For the life of me, I cannot hear the early E some are talking about. Could someone point out where it's at? I look forward to next season.

You can very faintly hear the early e when they strike in the drones. Very very faint

@@andrewhall9175 totally agree but at grade 1 it could totally ruin a performance as the other grade 1 bands should also be at an impeccable standard such as fmmpb

I don’t think they won grade 1 at the competition so maybe that had something to do with it. (still mighty impressive)

The chanter cut-off, I dunno. Maybe an unpopular opinion but I think its gimmicky and uncharacteristic of the pipes. In my unprofessional opinion, I'd mark them low for doing that. Leave the joke piping to the Galicians and the Asturians. Just my opinion

@dalecochrane554 Of course, it is something very unusual for the pipes, but in my opinion, it's more about the difficulty of it, to impress the judges, and I think it's one of the reasons they landed the second place in this competition, although there was a little squeeze at the beginning

Get off the bag so the pressure drops enough so the chanters stop, but the drones don't. Then get back on the bag, normal pressure.... Couldn't be simpler.

Hopefully the "couldn't be simpler" part is meant to be tongue in cheek! This requires perfectly balanced drone and chanter reeds and exceptional control from every single piper in the corps. One piper misses the cut out or the return, or if a single drone wavers it'll sound like a train wreck.

It was originally a fiddle tune. It's available on The Session [thesession.org/tunes/170] and at the the University of Aberdeen's James Scott Skinner archive as a holograph at www.abdn.ac.uk/scottskinner/display.php?ID=JSS0081. An arrangement for bagpipes by Donald Shaw Ramsay can be downloaded for a modest fee from pipetunes.ca. Hope this is helpful.
