Today I am showing you how to create a Color Changing Potion; the Invigoration Draught, a Potion said to Energize and Invigorate the Drinker. This potion prop changes from orange to a blue green. This potion was first talked about in Order of the Phoenix when Harry Brewed an acceptable potion before Professor Snape smashed his Phial. This will be a great addition to our Potion, Prop Collection we have been making, or an excellent addition to a Cosplay Costume.
The Things you will need:
• I glass Bottle with a rubber cork
• Isopropyl Alcohol
• Orange Food Coloring
• Blue Mica Powder
• White Sealing Wax Hot Glue
• Twine Cording
• Thin Twine Cording
• Orange and Blue Beads
• Scissors
• Label Printed on Sticker Paper

Love your color changing potions. I’m going to have my campers make some for the Ilvermorny School themed camp I’m leading in a couple weeks. Quick question about the powder. Would edible cake luster dust do the same thing as mica powder or will it give a different effect?
@CookingandCraftChick
@CookingandCraftChick 2 года назад
Unfortunately the edible kind of luster dust does not work the same. Mica powder is pretty safe though it’s one of the key ingredients they use in makeup.
@beckymurphy4714

When you first added the mica powder into the orange the effect was mesmerizing! I wonder if the orange will change color over time with a lot of shaking - will it get darker or muddier?
@CookingandCraftChick
@CookingandCraftChick 2 года назад
It shouldn’t. I made a test bottle several weeks ago and it is still the same color. Actually the longer it sits the more “clear” orange it gets because all of the residual mica settles leaving it even clearer.

Regular water over time will get “yucky”. The alcohol or distilled water with glycerin keeps things from growing in the water.

May I ask why you use running alcohol over water, & why you mix the mics into the alcohol on the side..? I've made potion bottles before, but with water, & just kinda gauge things by eye. Does it help incorporate the mica better or something..? Thanks so much! 💕
@CookingandCraftChick
@CookingandCraftChick Год назад
I use alcohol or distilled water with a couple drops of glycerin to keep things from growing in it. If you use regular tap water over time it will get “yucky”. I personally prefer the swirls and lack of bubbles you get with the alcohol too. You can either mix the mica in it or on the side, it doesn’t matter, people like to watch it swirl in which is why I did it separate. I hope that helps 😊

I have a project i want to try, It involves making the potions from Harry Potter and putting them in a light up case. Will the light color the potion more green if it is under this potion due to the settled mica, will it not heavily effect it? also, how would you go about putting a metal bead or something inside to allow someone to "magically" stir the potion? (Like a magnet mixer with a remote wand or something)
@CookingandCraftChick
@CookingandCraftChick Месяц назад
It won’t really effect it light wise. Most magnetic stirrers will only run one bead at a time, so I don’t know that there’s a great way for you to do multiple spinning pills inside of a box. I do a potion spinner in this video where I hide it in a book box: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FoZNmIeWy4s.html

Hi this message might be too late considering the release date: but I recently got into potion making, and I've noticed that after a few days, the jars get a bit foggy/small bubbles&smudges start forming on the inside of the glass 😢. Do you have any advice? Ps I use tap water because a different creator said using regular tap water would still last a couple of years so I'm confused. Tysm❤
@CookingandCraftChick
@CookingandCraftChick 9 месяцев назад
That is why. Tap water gets gross over time. ☹️Distilled water and a tiny bit of glycerin is what you can do. My tips and tricks video will give you some insights. I’m sorry that is happening to your bottles. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_blpHmSHt1c.html

@CookingandCraftChick
@CookingandCraftChick Год назад
You can add too much. But to get it to swirl a little longer you can always add a little bit of glycerin to “thicken” it up. It will stop swirling and settle in between getting shaken up.

I just tried making a color changing potion with amber base with green glitter, to be "Wyvern Venom," unfortunately the alcohol took up the color of the green mica powder and has discolored more green. How can I prevent this in future potions?
@CookingandCraftChick
@CookingandCraftChick 2 года назад
You might have used too much mica powder. What kind of mica powder did you use? You might try putting the mica in clear alcohol and see if it discolors it. If it does your mica might have dye in it too. If it doesn’t discolor it then you may have just used too much. I test my color combos in smaller bottles before making it a final potion. This might be helpful for you for future potions.

Not really. I use the rubber corks and I keep them in a room temperature room away from sun. All of these things keep the evaporation to a minimum.
