I like small hotels like 10-15 rooms or less, clean room with correct bed and a quiet location. In the Greek islands i like sea view. And very important is the owner , because with a smile and kindness all the troubles seem not so important.
Small hotels are often kept with passion by good hosts or owners who do it with passion. Cleanliness and a correct bed are very important for us too. We also are very picky with the bed.
I stay in hotel rooms a lot, and it's always a pleasant surprise to find one that has a bucket. For travellers who do small lots of hand laundry every few days, a hotel room with a bucket, or a sink with a plug that holds the water for a few hours, is a lot less common than you'd think.
Wonderful views from the hotel and the port. I think this is another one that just has to go on my list. Regarding my preference for a hotel room, I like a nice outside space or balcony where I can sit, relax over breakfast and maybe do some writing. A good solid bed is really important to support my back and ensure a good nights sleep, and a spacious room with a well-equipped bathroom and good coffee... Simple classic decor, access to a beach nearby and/or a nice view.
This was probably the most blissful hotel we stayed in during our trip to Greece. It had actually all you listed. It was simple but well run with a great personal touch. Couldn't agree more on your list. Thank you for watching.

It’s funny because I fell madly in love with Santorini on my first trip 3 years ago. Then last summer, after my 6th visit, I made the decision to leave NYC and moved to Santorini but yet I’ve never explored the other islands. 🤣

Cleanliness 2. Quiet 3. Comfy clean bed incl. clean sheets & blankets & covers etc. 4. Hello Friends, Amazing vídeo! Love that Beach! So cristal clear water, I have never been in that beautiful island, just passing by,and always seeing that beautiful church at the entrance of the port. About the question you ask, for me, first the location, then the comfort of the bed, and of course a tranquil place that one can sleep and rest well, very important, to be ready to discover the place you are going to visit the next day!
Yes, Ios has a very special atmosphere and is worth the stop, especially off season. The comfort of the bed is also key for us, and the tranquility. I cannot even count anymore the nights we needed to sleep with earplugs because of the noise...
If I have to pick just ONE thing it would be a toilet that works!😅 We've had rooms with broken toilets, so now the first thing I would do when I come in to our room is to check if the toilet flush!😁 Everything else, I can handle :) A good bed would be a big plus though :) Thank you guys for making these great videos!🌸
We totally understand, the toilet is a very important thing in a hotel room and it just has to work. Luckily the hotels usually fix it quickly when there is a problem. But as you say, the bed is probably the most important thing. After all, the hotels sell sleep, don't they! Thank you for watching.
Hello guys! a room with a view!! fantastic!! i could stay an ethernity! in japan rooms were quite tiny but very clean, quite and confortable. for me it was perfect. no need luxurious environments. i'm very minimalist. thats why i liked japanese culture. would like to see vlogs about germany and switzerland where you live, i suppose. im going to Betlin next month but i've beem there many times. always a pleasure! i like germany very much. beyond beautiful cities its very organized and functional. enjoy your back home sweet home
Yes, we felt very good in that place. It was simple, well run by a lovely family and with a stunning location. We will certainly be doing a few vlogs from Zurich and Germany so we hope you will like them when they come out. Berlin is also on the list, sometime later in July. Another great video. More than a view, spacious room, safety, quiet, not necessarily in that order is that the bed is free of bed mites and clean. So the most important thing about a room is it clean. There was a study done on some of the most expensive hotels around the world and they found bed mites, semen and other nasty things on the sheets and mattresses. Oh my, I'm just so much fun (lol). Love a hotel with a good view! Ok, on to your next journey!

That beach looks like paradise. The most important factor for me is location. Our vacation time for US citizens is so short. I don't want to spend too much time commuting to the beach/attractions.
The island is beautiful and worth the visit, maybe more off season. Location is key when you do not have much time, but in the islands the distances are pretty short.
Hello guys, thank you for your vlogs - we find them very interesting. One thing we would find very useful would be if you could mention WHEN you are in each place - as there can obviously be a huge difference in the "feel" of the place from one month to another. We were very interested for example in your comment about Ios NOT being the loud and noisy party-island when you were there. So, we'd love to know - when was that? Another question for you: it does seem to be quite windy in the Cyclades quite often! We were thinking of visiting in September, but I can see that statistically, it is less windy in May ... what were YOUR experiences in this regard?
Thank you Rene, it is a good point you mention and we will endeavour to mention as often as possible the timing. Usually our videos are very accurate to the time we upload them, maybe one or two weeks after shooting or so. We were in Ios until the 2 June and posted the video on 17 June. Regarding the wind, the Cyclades have the "Meltemi" wind from May to September/October so mostly all summer, with sometimes many days if not a week or so without wind. So there it's pure luck if it's windy or not. We were last time in September and it was very windy on some days and then no wind at all on others. We hope this helps... Which islands are you planning to visit?
Thank you very much for your very quick reply. That is all GREAT to know! We have only just started investigating - and there are so many choices. We probably will have about 10 days or so (including transfers to/from Athens). We DON'T like crowds, "organised beaches", and the party scene. We DO like quiet beaches, scenery, a small dose of history, a reasonably authentic feel and enjoy simple but good local eating - and drinking :-) We probably won't visit Mykonos, but so far we are thinking of perhaps one larger island like Naxos and one or two smaller ones like Milos, Ios, Serifos, Sifnos ... but we have yet to see all your videos, so the list of candidates will no doubt grow. Du bist so lustig, ein Kühlschrank für das Hundefutter. Darauf wäre ich nie gekommen. Aber warum auch nicht. Das Bett ist sicher das Wichtigste im Zimmer. Dann sollte es noch ruhig sein, das mach auch wirklich schlafen kann.

Hello Yesenia, all islands are different, we liked Naxos, Donoussa, Folegandros and Amorgos a lot. Also Kofounissia. But it is hard to choose, they are all wonderful.

I am fairly certain that you boys need a 60 year old house boy to help you in your travels. I might be able to rearrange my busy schedule to do the job; perhaps for room & board? Hotel rooms: I need a hard bed. They can always put a mattress topper on it to make it soft for other guests, but I look forward to the cement pedestal beds when I travel. Coffee maker, either in room or easily accessible, is another must have. Other than that - I'm good. Shared bathroom - ok. Dorm room in a hostel - ok. I don't travel for the hotel room experience :)
Ha ha ha, a house boy would be helpful, with all our luggage ;-). Yes, the hardness or softness of the bed is an issue sometimes and the mattress topper is a great idea indeed. And more and more hotels do have coffee makers in the room, or even a hipster coffee place downstairs. In Greece, you can get good coffee nearly everywhere.
